There's always the bully pulpit, and Obama knows how to communicate ideas, even the uncomfortable ones, when he wants to.
That'd be my wish, but if he was pushing the leadership, both state and local over the phones, I'd be fine with that and that comprises my more pragmatic hopes.

And what evidence do you possess that he hasn't discussed this with the Gov of Missouri?

Your assuming Obama didn't already phone the governor. Remember when JFK was president, a place called little rock, yeah he called that governor who lied just to try to get ahead of the president over civil rights, it would not surprise me for a governor to do it to Obama.
The only presidents I don't think someone would refuse would be Teddy Roosevelt, Andrew Jackson because he'd shot you, George Washington, and Lyndon B Fucking Johnson.

I don't know what he can legally do on his own, but if his administration can think up justifications for murdering children overseas they can do the same to defend people from being terrorized by police. This country does whatever it wants, regardless of it's moral consequences, by making it legal. They can make it legal to send in the military to defend citizens from police.
Anyway, he can certainly do a lot more talking than he does now, and that can go a long way. Advocate ending the racist police forces around the country, talk about requiring all police to wear cameras, ending racial profiling, ending 'broken windows' policing procedures, talk about de-militarization of police and so on.
Obviously he's not going to do any of this but I'm saying someone with principles could say such things, or at least one of them, or try to hint at them. Anything more than silence on the roots of the white nationalist authoritarians in this country.

That isn't without precedence though. You can't just, say, stop your car and get out of it while in a DUI checkpoint line. I also know that when a cop demands you get out of a car at a traffic stop you have to comply or can be charged similarly.
Right okay dude. Go out to the streets and protest unless you don't have principles. Obama has given dozens of speeches on race relations in this country and they've done jack shit to change people who are intrenched.

Not to mention that under his administration he armed police to the teeth and has also been arming Homeland Security (FBI, BP, etc...) like crazy. Under his administration he has been arming law enforcement with MRAPs, drones, cameras, Assault Rifles, Light Machine Guns, military helicopters, and more.
It's one of the things the crazies like Alex Jones makes them believe he has the power to come after their guns.

It is true, friend is in the army and says the same. Also all guns are stored in cabinets at bases and personnel aren't allowed to get one without authorization.

It doesn't matter at all if nothing happens, it's him advocating something to the public that they otherwise would not have heard or thought about. The president talking about something gives it legitimacy, and opens debate in the general public, maybe mainstream media about alternatives to the status quo. To say he shouldn't try, because you think it won't do anything, is ridiculous to me.
I honestly want to know what the opposition is to the president saying we should have all police wear cameras. Like do you think this is illegal for him to say this? Does he not have the ability to speak? What exactly is the defense of his refusal to do this? (besides him believing they shouldn't be recorded.)
