PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | August 2014

Eh we're not even a year in, give it time. I didn't have any interest in the PS3 until 3 years in and the slim model released. I can't see a SRW appearing on the PS4 for a long time though since they have basically nowhere to go after OGs2 graphics-wise and the PS3 install base is far better.

As long as the 3rd party support keeps coming though I'm quite happy with the Vita as it is. It has more or less surpassed the PSP for me at this point.

I never said I'll never buy a PS4. But primary reason I thought of buying one in the first place, was due to remote play and some nice games on PS+, and Drive Club - a game I could enjoy with my li'l bro who likes cars. This is a different case than in PS3, where I still had a plethora of things to hope for. Either ways, the thought of buying a PS4 is now off the table.

I am very satisfied with my Vita, far more than many people here. Heck, I even highly value Criminal Girls. It's a simple, yet good RPG. And I'm not alone in this*. If they ever announce Criminal Girls 2, you can expect me to be there, day one.

*yes, it has good reviews. LOL. PM me if you want me to link you those reviews (naturally, they're in Japanese). inb4 someone kills me for saying it's good and they didn't like CG Invitation. I'm gonna tell you right here, right now, don't buy it if you don't like the whole punishment thing. It's also a moe game. A chara moe game.

If I buy Soul Sacrifice Delta will the SS final boss be less of a pain in my butt? I hate that fight. I kinda just want to finish it and not play again, at the moment.

New Neptunia U gameplay. Looks fun and the framerate seems pretty solid, though I'm a little disappointed the transformations and special attacks aren't slightly more cinematic.

...was not expecting the "costume break" (at work no less). We have any US release dates/windows on this? Neptunia seems like a sure bet for localization, but when?

The CERO rating symbols are more aesthetically pleasing than the ESRB ones :P
Both of which are much more appealing than the colored PEGI ones.

As for recommendations I think all of the import friendly titles are already localized/planned for localization by virtue of not having a lot of text in the first place. There are several Gundam games and GE2 which should be playable though and likely aren't coming at this point.
The only thing that's stopping me from buying GE2 is that awful "Best" cover. I haven't been able to find copies with the original box art anywhere.

It essentially has been discontinued in North America if the consistent shortages are any indication. If the vita had any positive future with Sony, they would have tried to build on the momentum of the redesigned system/BL2 bundle. Instead, they're still barely supplying any units to stores. The writings on the wall, as sad as that is to say.

But as others have said, you likely don't need to worry about vita's presence on the PSN. The PSP was officially discontinued earlier this year but its games and ability to connect to the PSN are still functioning. When the vita is eventually officially killed off, they'll keep the network connection alive and the games on there, if for nothing else, to boost the amount of games potentially available for ps now. In the short term, there's still playstation
vita
tv, that'll force them to at least mention vita games every now and then.

What a discontinuation in NA does mean is the eventual cessation of new games, specifically localizations from Japan.

Guess I was overreacting a bit there, sorry :(. Still, that isn't the way the system should die though X(; powerful hardware and best controls for a handheld.....really deserved more then to die a slow and quite death :(.

....I still think JP localizations will happen though; The Third Party Relations team has gotten Tales of Hearts R over here (alongside making BL2 Vita happen), so there is a chance those games are still coming. Besides, even if Sony discontinues Vita, that should stop developers/publishers from selling software to existing Vita buyers :).

Persona 4 Golden is a great example here :D. That game sold great for Vita and is always sell (thanks to frequent sales :)) not to mention all the other JP games on Vita doing okay here :). I think Demon Gaze, Dragnoaropa and others did well (in the case of Dragnorapa, we are already getting the sequel in the states this fall, so that should be a sign that the publishers see the Vita as a good platform for there games :)).

I know this thinking is blind hope but there is some logic to this at least :l....

Also, SCEA has been pulling PSP games of the PS Vita store (recent examples being Persona 3 Portable, a number of Mastifs software, and some Atlus games), so what is stopping them from doing that on to Vita software? With all the crap Sony has done on the Vita, them pulling the plug wouldn't be something that would shock me in the slightest :(.

You're in Japan right now, right?

Holy shit. I was thinking of buying a physical copy, too, since my copy is digital. :/

But whoever thought of that The Best cover deserves to get 300 years of prison sentence.

I had always assumed Sony made Best covers look as bad as they do as punishment for buying the game at a chapter price >.>

Wii had the best cheap versions which I honestly thought looked better then the original covers.

I'm leaving Japan tomorrow night. And yeah, they should have taken cues from the design of the Nintendo Select boxes.

Soul Sacrifice Delta worth it for someone planning to play entirely solo?
Absolutely, everything can be done solo (or with surprisingly competent AI partners).

Are... Neptunia games just like that or do they not have sound effects for hitting enemies...?

It's highly disturbing. And this is releasing in a few weeks.

Edit: Also... I don't think we've seen footage/screenshot of them fighting anything other than small fry. I am now having some doubts about buying this game. :/

Ugh no CERO is worse because they're colored on the spine. I can even see the nasty from the SHELF. Kill me
Eh, some games have entirely differently colored spines to match with the cover so as far as the shelf goes it's impossible to get uniformity. The CERO ratings are the least intrusive on the front of the covers though, imo.

At least the game cart is still the same as the vanilla game. I bought the Super Price release of Sen a couple of weeks ago and it even has the Super Price logo on the cart ( ´_ゝ`)

Pretty good list. ...sure are a lot of breaking-clothes games these days *looks over shoulder*

Soul Sacrifice Delta worth it for someone planning to play entirely solo?

I played the first solo. AI isn't awful, though I mostly use them as revives/sacrifices. They can greatly prolong your life with the former and make for a quick kill if sacrificed at the right time.

Naw, still hate that crap. Anything that's not pure boxart plus the default platform logo sticks out like a sore thumb. Though "The Best" releases are a particular brand of ugly. And I dislike that PS3 changes the box color too.

There's normally attack sounds I think...and Blanc's hammer makes noise in one video. Hope there are more sounds

I don't mind a charage if the gameplay is solid but I wish most of them featured characters that were about 10 years older ┐('~` )┌

Yeah, it's a damn shame. The best designed console ever deserves a better fate.

I know this thinking is blind hope but there is some logic to this at least :l....
It's definitely possible. I might just be overly pessimistic at the moment. EA was still releasing legacy editions of Fifa for the PSP up to last year for example.

Also, SCEA has been pulling PSP games of the PS Vita store (recent examples being Persona 3 Portable, a number of Mastifs software, and some Atlus games), so what is stopping them from doing that on to Vita software?
I knew they were pulling some games but I didn't know to what extent. Third party titles might eventually be lost due to licensing issues but I would think first party titles would be safe.

With all the crap Sony has done on the Vita, them pulling the plug wouldn't be something that would shock me in the slightest :(.
Yeah, wouldn't surprise me either, honestly.

In anime style there's often very little difference visual between an 18 year old and a 30 year old character anyway.

Speaking of, I'm pretty sure Sakurai and Hideo Kojima are anime.

I haven't played Neptunia, so I'm not really sure what to expect of the cinematics, but I think it's more of an SFX problem.

It's like they didn't do Shinovi Versus at all. I'm not hearing the sounds footsteps at all, or "flying/moving sound". When some mobs are hitting them, there's no sound. It feels more like the attacks themselves have the sounds, but the hitting an enemy doesn't. What. Even Dekamori Senran Kagura had more impact in sound effects.

Noire's SRPG game also had the "weirdly chosen SFX" so I was thinking what if this was a Neptunia trademark. -_-

Could you name some of them? I have some Atlus and some PSP games and I'll back them up if they are being removed.

Lets see.....
-Riviera: The Promised Land
-Yggdra: Union
-GUNGAIR
-Persona 1
-Persona 3 Portable
-Persona 2: IS
-Knights In Nightmare
-Kenka Broncho: Badass Rumble

I'm sure there is more but off the that all I know is off the Vita store (they have a big sale on all of these this week to but nope, not on the Vita store X(.

Probably. I miss Cave in Mk2. Are there playable humans (possibly cave?) in ReBirth? Only RPG of theirs I don't own. Will get the LE I guess

I'm happily playing through Ys 7 at the moment, can heartily recommend it to anyone else who's first experience of the series was MoC.

Just picked up Breath of Fire III in the sale, I think I'm set for JRPGs on the Vita for the rest of the decade now...

A bunch of PSP games have indeed been removed from the Vita store in NA recently. This isn't a result of license expiration. In fact, the third party publishers haven't even been notified of the removal.

On the website it has Brocolli, Falcom, MarvelousAQL, Mages, Cyberconnect2, and Tekken. I'm pretty sure you can use the Oracles too.

Someone said that ZHP is used to enable CFW.

Oh, very good. Ugh, want western release date. I don't like importing non-shmups. I still have no idea WTF is going on in this Sonico game

but if you buy any of them on the Webstore you can still download them directly onto the vita (at least, I still can download them via the list). I think they are having issues with their vita store portal, NOT that they are losing licenses and are being forced to do it. I heard that they are actively working to restore these to the store (once they are notified).

This is very much different than the PS3 only titles where you can't download or purchase them on the vita store. Frankly with how difficult the vita store is to manage, and the fact that PS1 games are almost impossible to find on there I use the webstore exclusively.

though the scrolling download list is nice, breaking each page by 20 is a pain when you have 500+ downloads...

That is why I said Vita store, not PSN in general :l. That is why I said there is a sale on them too; you can still find them on the Web store.

The issue is that the games SHOULD be on the PS Vita version of the store though. They can play on the system AND they have been on the store in the past too (hell, I bought Persona 3 Portable from the Vita store, not the Web Store)....they should still be on there.

Also, PS1 games are still on the web store (but for some stupid reason, are segregated toward the end of the top banner thing). There are people without PC's or PS3's, so having access to the full store on Vita shouldn't be that difficult X(.

....Then again, it has been clearly established that SCEA gives to shits about the Vita, so who knows if this will ever be fixed :l.

What do you think of this interview?
http://www.gamereactor.eu/news/248864/Denny+on+PS+Vita:+Sony+Worldwide+Studios'+focus+is+now+on+PS4/

He seems honest, about Vita... well he clearly says that PS4 is the focus.
He says:

"For us Vita's still the best handheld dedicated gaming device out there. If you want quality handheld gaming, the Vita's for you, and there's a large array of content already out there for it, and more digital content that's coming.
I mean Borderlands 2 is still to come to the platform...
"

roftl to the: "We didn't want to be the ones to break it to him that the game is already out, so we let him continue." part lol

"You marry that with the remote play experience that people can get on PlayStation 4, I think it's really still a great system for people. In terms of the focus of Worldwide Studios, I think you've clearly seen that's going to be more in terms of PlayStation 4 going forward now."

"So, as you said, there'll be cross-play titles, there'll be titles that are going cross-platform as well. There's some big third-party titles still coming, and there's lots of great, innovative new indie titles coming digitally to the platform."

I dunno you but i have the impression he is a little displeased with what Sony has in mind for Vita, if he is sincere then my impression was right then, Sony Europe(and Japan i guess) like Vita, but they have to obey at orders.

Feels like this is an indication that his response was just a prerecorded PR spool and he has no idea what's going on.

So we finally got an update on Hotline Miami PS4, what about OlliOlli coming to PS4? I'm super excited for both of these games but it's a little weird how quiet it's been on that front.

Well, SCEE has clearly been trying more :). They have tons of different Vita bundles (Ratchet, Tearaway + LBP, Killzone, The many Mega Pack Bundles, potentally a future Minecraft one, ect), the Mega Packs, and are the people that pushing indies to come to the Vita (and also the ones that manage the 3rd Party Team too I think), so them saying they have stuff coming isn't a flat out lie :D.

Besides, them and SCEJ have been the major teams and studios making Vita software (Killzone Mercenary was made by them, alongside Studio Japan making many games for Vita), so it is SCEA (the place that is ignoring the Vita that is largly ignroign the platform) must be saying 'No' on Vita software production.

Then again....we don't know if SCEE and SCEJ are stopping production on Vita games; Shu could have also meant that SCEA has stopped first party software, not EU.

Either way, we all know that SCEE and SCEJ are Vita supporters and are trying for the device :D.

My fear is that while SCEE(and SCEJA) still like Vita they are forced to stop supporting it, i mean at gamescom there was nothing new for Vita, this imo means that from now on we cannot expect anything from SCEE.

At this point i'm really curious to see if the TGS will be a PS4 only conference or Vita being the second best selling console in Japan still means something...

Joe Danger Vita has been rated in Europe. It shouldn't take too long to get released.

THANK GOD

They literally refuse to comment on this game, and not a word has been said about it since April 1st. I was seriously beginning to wonder what was going on with it.

Disappointing that no date was mentioned at Gamescom.

I don't mind them not using valuable conference time at Gamescom, but some not-in-conference announcements/trailers/marketing for Vita stuff from Sony seem like they really shouldn't be too much trouble.

Shu meant WWS which means we aren't going to see Gravity Rush anymore or any first party developed games.
