Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

They are all starters. They are not gonna reveal any unlockable characters except maaaaybe third parties.

This is the most stupidest argument in this thread.

"They don't wanna overwelm players!"

"They just seem unlockables because of reasons!"

"But Luigi has always been hidden! Sakurai said that so it means he's still hidden even tho its the most obvious hidden character to return!"

"But Toon Link and Lucina are CLONES! THEY HAVE TO BE UNLOCKABLE BECAUSE OF CLONES BECAUSE I SAY SO!"

Seriously, get over yourselves. They are all starters except for maybe third parties depending on how Sakurai treats them.

G&W is the only character revealed so far that isn't on the site, because he is unlockable and the only reason he showed him was to do that little history lesson. All the other characters are on the site, they are starters.

I'm LMAO at everyone arguing over this, and this is my last post on this argument because its just dumb.

wow such confidence lol >_>

After-market ain't cheap.

EDIT: Just checked, if you want to use SD cards for Gamecube memory cards you have to screw with the hardware since Wii features are disabled in Gamecube mode
Not cheap? I had to buy some a few weeks ago, and it seems like it was pretty easy to come across them at reasonable prices. I think I paid 10 or 15 for a pair of 251s, along with 25 for a bundle of like... 6, that included a 1019. The games are the real stinger for aftermarket prices though. Yikes.

Also, the part about SD cards reminded me. Internet Explorer (one of the guys that does Smash hacks) mentioned that it was looking possible to use Melee codes with nothing more than a memory card. Looks like there's a slight update, making it sound like progress has been made: https://twitter.com/dansalvato1/status/489949741719904256

Which from the sound of that, someone needs to hack their Wii to put the files own the memory card, then that can just be copied from card to card. Hope it works out.
Yeah, I did overstate things. The main reason is my card died just a few weeks before Brawl came out, and I figured I wouldn't be playing Melee much in the near future anyway. And for some reason certain games can still be saved - most importantly, TTYD. All the saves I had got corrupted, but to this day I can still save games without any trouble (I think Luigi's Mansion and Kirby's Air Ride still work, too.) Other than TTYD, though, I don't really play any GCN games anymore, so I've just never bothered getting a new one.
Well that makes sense. If it's not something you'll use much, not much point in replacing it.

Your only reason for saying they're starters is because they're on the website? That's a weak argument because, just because it's been an unwritten rule for the last few games doesn't mean he'd have to follow that unofficial rule for the next game, especially after he expressed concern everyone sees everything on the Internet anyway.

I admittedly made my conclusion based off of the fact that games tended to be expensive, so I thought first-party hardware would be too.

And I wish I could get cheats working on my gamecube games. Half the time my system thinks the memory card is corrupted when I try to use them.

"Why would Sakurai follow your unofficial rules, instead he would obviously follow mine!"

as if yours is any better

What is love baby don't hurt me no more
Yeah. When you're talking about Kid Icarus: Uprising HD, there are no qualifiers for purchase. All the qualifiers needed are in the words "Kid Icarus: Uprising HD." :P

Oh no doubt I heard its a great game I just need a controller to enjoy it. I have a hard time doing the super training in Pokemon y using the stylus with one hand on the 3ds. That's the only reason I didn't get it.

Maybe the memory card sockets are getting rusty.

If it says that it is corrupted, and later it works, its very possible that the problem is not the card itself :p

All this talk of starters gets me wondering what they'll evolve into. We already know that Marth evolves into Lucina, but what's the third and final form? Either way, definitely a lot more starter choice than pokemon, that's for sure ;3

On a more serious note, I AM curious to see how they deal with locking/not locking. Personally I'd prefer we unlock movesets and other stuff rather than characters, or if we're locking characters then either the locks at least don't apply in multiplayer or, as people suggested, there's a quick and easy code to unlock them.
I don't doubt that if they do lock characters they'd somehow manage to lock all the ones I actually want to play because that's just how it always goes with me and Unlocks... I've lost track of how many times I've had to personally unlock Cammy on various machines for streetfighter 4 -.-

All of this Sakurai talk about him wanting to make the number one character game in the world....he seems so confident about it.

I dunno about you guys, but I think to make this the number one character game in the world, cutting one of gaming's most iconic characters just wouldn't make sense.

I still can't believe that there still has not been a definitive answer as to Ridley's role in Smash 4 (despite the hinting he is a boss/stage hazard for the Pyrosphere).

We are now going on one year (August 20th was the unveil date for the Pyrosphere) since Sakurai has left us with ambiguity as to Ridley's role.

I just can't see why Sakurai has held off so long about Ridley's role in Smash 4, and why he has not come out and shown Ridley as a boss since that is obviously what he is hinting at.

Ridley is the most wanted newcomer at this point, so its really perplexing.

My personal theory is that there is going to be a Wii U exclusive mode that lets you play as bosses "sort of". The bosses will be controlled via the game pad, and be relegated only to the stages you happen to fight them on.

The Wii U Game Pad will be used to tap the the action you want the boss to perform.

The main character to head line this new feature will be Ridley.

This is the only plausible reason I can see for why Sakurai has not come out and confirmed Ridley as the boss/stage hazard for the Pyrosphere.

Secondly, Sakurai will be in a for a rude awakening if he thinks this what Ridley and Smash Bros. fans want.

Hoping he's saving it for the last direct. I'd hate to wait until release just to find out Ridley's fate.

Based on the "bosses" we've seen so far, boss mode sounds pretty boring. For yellow devil, would you just press buttons to activate when he breaks apart?

Maybe there's a special mode on the Wii U that allows players with the Gamepad to control boss characters on stages. That way, people could finally play as Ridley (not in the way most people wanted to, but it should be close enough).

In fact, there might just be a mode that just allows players with the Gamepad to control stage hazards all together. Perhaps after the 3DS version is released, we'll start to hear more about the special modes in the Wii U version. I could easily see it happening.

It just seems so in line with what Nintendo's been doing with their games as of late. 3D World, Mario Bros U, etc. I can't see Gamepad functionality being used for just the amiibos.

Here's a thought: What if there are fewer unlockable characters in this game (assuming there are still unlockable characters) due to the fact that there may be DLC characters? What if Sakurai considers DLC characters to be "unlockable" characters, too?

Because Ridley is a loved character that has been requested before each installment since Melee but its situation as a boss character in his series makes his situation a bitter one. The shadow and the "but other bosses will appear in other stages too" line said everything, the ones waiting for "Super Metroid Ridley" or "Unevolved Ridley" are in for a hard wake.

I can do that. Just remind me in a PM near release.

Thank you very much!

Oh, that reminds me, do you think you could help me get my info on the 3DS FC sheet? I click on the link in the OP but then I can't quote the post to see the link to add my stuff to the document. Maybe it's because I'm on mobile?

Can I summon you in battle?

Yes, however I require 1 turn to summon and 1 turn to attack. My power is very great.

Always excited to see this!

Have you ever considered splitting the Mii Fighters into three separate wallpapers? Not sure if there's hi def art of each, though, now that I think of it...

I wanted to back when the Fighters were announced, but I haven't been able to find individual art. I also wanna do one for Male Fit Trainer and the other Villagers but those don't exist either :(

If that is the case he should have just de-confirmed him immediately. The way things are going, many Smash Bros. fans think he is "trolling" since he has straight up de-confirmed any other character (see what happened with Chrom when there was ambiguity involved). With Ridley, the ambiguity has been going on for nearly a year.

Its really disconcerting.

May have something to do with you being on a phone. Just PM your info and I can add on there.

The simple answer is that he's waiting for the 3DS version to release before he hypes up the Wii U version, and Ridley is a boss exclusive to Wii U and Pyrosphere.
It's the same reason why we haven't seen Wii U's extra modes ala Smash Run and Target Blast.
