Yes they've killed characters before, but only minor ones like Jet or villains.
The camera panning seemed to imply torture, if they wanted to kill him they would have gone straight for the kill.

I can't believe people think Tenzin is dead. If Korra found out Zaheer killed him, she wouldn't turn herself in and instead fight to the death.

Leaving him alive would mean he's still going to fight back in some capacity. Zaheer was willing to toss aiwei's spirit into the void and his subordinates were trying to kill Kya, Bumi and Kai up til now, they've been knocking people away or holding them off.
If Tenzin isn't already dead, he'll probably at the beginning of the next episode.

More likely Tenzin or Zuko for the swerve. It would tie in with then bringing the Fire Lord (Queen) into this. But dying will be in the finale, not yet.

You know when Bumi slide between the guy´s legs, and come from behind him, i was hoping he would blast him with wind blast, but no he jumped on him and bite him.
Seems really unlikely to me, and not even because of some idea of Tenzin being a protected character. Whatever Zaheer is doing he appears to want Korra to get involved at least somewhat willingly. Killing Tenzin would do nothing to make that happen and probably everything to prevent it.

Unless you count the Dark Avatar form but that cycle broke before it began properly. Does Vaatu even exist anymore or has he been completely purified?
You can never really get rid of Vaatu. He'll eventually grow out of a future avatar during harmonic convergence.
So, finally catched up with the last episodes. What a n awesome ride. Maybe the kicked the show from tv, because the network can't hold that much awesome anymore.
I am definitly #TeamAlive. I can buy the Earthqueen being dead off-screen, but an important character like Tenzin won't fall. Especially since the four seemed to "just" beat him up badly. I can see repercussions though. Maybe he gets crippled.

Book 3 has been the absolute best of Korra. Wish it was like this for the last two seasons.

If he died there'd be something much more dramatic and obvious that he died. Also Zaheer's plan doesn't even make sense since killing off the other Airbenders goes against the Red Lotus' mission. Also even though I understand the writers didnt want Zuko fighting, the excuse was lame. I feel Zuko caring so much about Aang would also care about the Airbenders and Aangs children. Also all of the red lotus is at the air nation trying to kill them off again. If Zuko and his children joined they could maybe shift the tides. Also Zuko's ancestors are the reason the air nation is in its current state.

They kill leaders, & Tenzin is technically the leader of the growing Air Nation. I wouldn't put it past them to kill Tenzin when Korra shows up.
Though I sincerely hope Tenzin lives. If he has to die, he better go out like a champ.
Maybe Zaheer wants to keep him for some teaching. Maybe they capture Meelo and force Tenzin to teach Zaheer advanced airbending, since it was established that he is still lacking, even if he is pretty strong already. Would be a reasonable power-up and we would have the ironic situation that Tenzin actually got a pupil who is smart and willing to learn.

With regards to females in cartoons, i am watching RWBY and i love how the females are depicted. Strong, independent, understanding, compassionate etc.... It´s rally refreshing, especially since RWBY stand for the 4 initials 4 very different girls with different personalities.
