WWE 2K15 First Footage and Gameplay changes

To everyone in this topic begging for a new version of No Mercy, I'm begging you to wise up and to check out Virtua Pro Wrestling 2 to see what the AKI engine is REALLY all about.

I played the hell out of No Mercy back in the day but a lot always bothered me about it, the poor AI, the slowdown in 4 player mode, the massive limits in CAW, etc.

So back in 2001, discovering the existence of and subsequently importing VPW2 was an absolute revelation and I never played No Mercy again. Amazing AI, no slowdown, multiple fighting styles, amazing CAW with programable A.I, etc, etc, etc.

NO ONE should be eulogising No Mercy as the archetype of wrestling games - in many aspects it wasn't even as good as WM2000.

For the love of all things holy, if you're going to eulogise the AKI engine, at least use the best game in the series as the example. VPW2 was the absolute pinacle of the series - that is what should be aspired to, No Mercy shouldn't even be mentioned.

I've played all of the N64 AKI wrestling games to death (apart from VPW 1) and I agree with you completely. VPW2 also had the extra finisher on some characters, which I thought was a great addition and strangely missing from No Mercy.

Will 2k15 even have different animations for walking where it's appropriate? I think all of their games between 2002 and 2006 had that as a feature. Big Show said in that stupid GameSpot interview that everyone moves differently in this game but I don't think he would actually know that.

Nah man, I'd believe Big Show. He's a huge gamer, even mentioned he's a fan of Jeff Gerstmann's wrestling persona, Dr. Tracksuit. Big Show probably even has a GAF account.

As someone who sees No Mercy as the best wrestling gave ever, i'm gonna have to check this out.

As far as WWE2K15 goes, my pre-order remains for the moment, but from the little i've see thus far its pretty much more of the same. Will wait for more videos / impressions before deciding whether to cancel.

You won't be disappointed. If you go the emulation route, see if there are any mods that convert the menus to english, as my only issues came from trying to navigate the japanese menus.

They ran out of cart space, which is why the entrances were only half too. Damn you, titantrons!

To be fair, that is probably the most realistic mocap of Jimmie Hart selling a stunner ever.

This game was amazing. I bought it at some import shop in NYC when I was a kid to hold me over for No Mercy since this came out in between WM 2000 and No Mercy.

I loved the create a mask feature and the idea of Super Specials. Roster was huge and had striker characters that were gone since Revenge. I remember renaming the entire roster to their correct English names...fun times.

So can we start making bets on what features are getting cut this year?

With the whole "3x the animations!" stuff they are spouting, I doubt we're going to be able to customize moves and finishers this time.

I don't think they are stupid enough to remove CAWs but they will definitely be limited in comparison to the last 5 games.

Yeah it's so 'bad' that I have to believe it is intentionally so.

Not even sure what part of the game that gif is from, but Yeah they have moments in the game where they animate things just as they appeared on TV, even down to the selling and in backstage promos and such. PPL would know that if they played instead of judged shitty gifs. Austin has hit a few stunners just like that back in the day. They even have Vince Mcmahon stunner and Santinos stunner in the game. But yah haters gonna...

Thats the difference between a canned animation that makes the dude teleport to the middle of the ring, and the difference between a dynamic one that can be done anywhere in the ring and can be interrupted. same with ppls elbow, sweet chin music and meathook. you can even counter as the rock goes to step over you if your real quick. so yeah ppl hating without facts not surprised

No it isn't. It's still a canned animation, even without the teleporting (which did used to be bullshit). The only thing that will be different is that it's taunt motion-run-move, but even letting the transitions slide, the impact of the move is worse, which wouldn't be affected by that change.

At first i though that was one of the manual spears (wake up taunt, then run and the move). but yeah that is one of the canned corner finsiher spears. A lot better in game than in a choppy gif. I did like the old impact from the previous games a little better but they are all still a lot better than any AKI spears, and certainly not so bad that they should be rediculued. The actual impact can be countered so they couldnt leave it the same.

HCTP had some hilariously absurd backstage stuff, like grabbing people by the throat while riding Undertaker's bike. And this.

I never did this. That's crazy.

All I remember is being able to climb the fist on Smackdown and the front of the set on Raw in Shut Your Mouth.

That stuff was awesome. They need to being that back.

Yeah I remember being able to fight outside in Times Square by WWE New York. They took a lot of this stuff away when they moved the games to PS3/360. Hopefully we will get a trailer at the roster reveal.

They're the same menus as WM2000. It's the same base game. The only time menus should be a problem is if you want to change a match to MMA rules, since that mode isn't in 2000 or No Mercy.

Shall we use this thread for roster discussion, or make a new thread for the reveal (that should be starting any minute!)

Yeah, because making it a dynamic animation means it needs to look like the animated equivalent of liquid shit. There's no impact, no flow between the animation frames, and it looks nothing like how Goldberg did it. But hey, haters gonna hate.

The motion capture arena does sound cool. Now when will we see all of this mo-capped moves in the game instead of the crappy Yukes stuff?

"The crappy Yuke's stuff" has been THQ/2K mocap for the last seven games. Yuke's hasn't done animation in-house since 2006.

Pahaha. "The gameplay is always fun, but all the criticism is on the graphics"

ERM NOPE.

Glad Stone Cold is hosting this though, it's going to be fun.
