Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

This music will never be in Smash because Banjo & Kazooie will never been in Smash

bknutsnbolts_20.jpg

If there was gonna be a Banjo song in Smash it would have to be the awesome Kazooie/Tooie orchestrated medley they did for N&B's Banjoland Museum level.

Huh, I just now saw the interview that Nintendo are looking into both 2D and 3D metroid games.

I'm pretty sure Prime 4 will be Retro's next game now, before it was a toss-up between P4 and DKCR3 but now, now I'm hyped for that.

I swear to god if when they said that they meant a HD remaster of the prime trilogy I will hate them so much
Dont worry, Prime 4 will happen

Right, guys? RIGHT? :(

While that music is awesome, I don't think it would exist in a reality where Rare wasn't bought out.

It would be a sacrifice I'd be more than willing to make.

It would at the very least mean we'd probably finally get twin-stick shooting controls for the trilogy. I couldn't complain.

But the Prime games don't need them?...

Atleast have the classic controls as an option, I hate console style FPS' controls.

I agree that there will probably be one other this month, unless there's a direct soon.

Why would you want that when we already have objectively better pointer controls?

Prime 4 would be great yes.

But then again, I can't help but feel that Retro could also do something like what they did with DKC:R and make it like Super Metroid or something.

I mean, it's not like you guys wouldn't want a 2D Metroid developed by Retro.

The Tank controls were alright. They worked, but after being so used to playing with Dual Analog and the Wiimote controls it grated on me when I was playing Prime 2 GC. The choice made sense back when two triggers weren't the standard, but now that they are it makes more sense to map the beam switching to one or both of them. (As in hold one of the Z triggers and flick the right stick to the beam you wanted to use, then go right back to aiming.)

I prefer regular button controls when available.

Fighting the Boost Guardian with twin stick controls..

Oh god.. :p

Sensitivity settings are your friend.

I've recently gone back to the GCN version to record an LP and I think they're great honestly, different strokes I guess.

oooh is it DKC2 music time? :D

Actually since we're posting arrangements, I'm just gonna share this really neat one of Forest Interlude. The guy makes some really nifty remixes, and his Hot Head Bop one particularly grew on me.

This is pretty catchy! A bit too mellow for Smash, in my opinion, but definitely something I could see myself relaxing to on a late evening such as this.
Alternative: this lovely little arrangement for violin and piano

Sushi is too big confirmed

Hahaha, I was just thinking that. Hopefully they were facing east-northeast this year! ;)

I will say that Retro did a fantastic job of designing the game around the controls. After my initial annoyance for the first 20 minutes I didn't have much of any issues with it.

Fusion is basically Other M if they didn't fuck everything up.

It's amazing how identical they are and yet Other M gets so much wrong.

I think this discussion should end here though, I'm already starting to get annoyed about and we don't want another 2 pages about how much Other M sucks peppered with the defense force saying that once you get over the story then the rest was good (which it fucking wasn't).

Werehog (and the battle theme on constant loop) and the awful medal-based progression REALLY brought the game down, so I'd say its warranted.

There is no way you will ever convince me Sonic Unleashed is a bad game, let alone worse than Sonic Lost World. The Werehog hate is exaggerated and the daytime levels are generally fantastic. I'm still convinced that Sonic 06 left enough of a bad impression on the franchise that Unleashed could not be reviewed fairly.

I'm about to head to work, so I won't be on much until tonight, but I thought I'd post this again from last night just to make sure everyone's one the same page:

And that's a wrap, folks! I'm no longer taking any more votes. Tomorrow we'll begin the countdown of favorite veterans at 9:00 PM PST, roughly two hours before the Pic of the Day goes up.

Newcomers are so all over the place (as expected), so there's not really much of a countdown to do there. For them, I'll make a post every POTD day at 8:00-8:30 PM PST as a small appetizer before the main course of the countdown. I'll be choosing the suggestions that I found most interesting, the ones that were most popular, and even some that just made me laugh.

So, all that being said, I'm really looking forward to sharing the results and counting down your choices on the way to the Super Smash Bros for 3DS Japanese release date. We've almost got a new Smash game, guys!

I'm not saying it's a bad game, I'm just saying that reviews are generally driven by a game's detractors and Unleashed has some big ones.

I don't think Werehog hate is exaggerated, though. The levels are long, progressing is boring, the character is far too slow. If they had been more focused on tight platforming (which you saw in a few places, like Skyscraper Scamper night) instead of the tedious beat-em-up gameplay and they didn't play that battle theme ever 25 seconds, we might've had something.

There's enough wrong with Unleashed that it leaves a bad taste right after playing, but I can say in retrospect it's not a wholly bad game and a turning point for the series (until Lost World, which will probably have a similar Unleashed style retrospective if they get to iterate on that style).

Speaking of Fusion, a stage with Nightmare as a boss that increases gravity could be fun.

Even more fun if it's not a boss and it's just a highly telegraphed stage hazard to make it a counter-pick stage.

Sounds good Oric. Looking forward to it!

Also, is anyone trying to go to one of the locations for the Nintendo Play Tour and try it Smash 4 3DS one last time?

A Metroid Prime rep would have been awesome :(
I'm now imagining a playable Metroid Prime. Not Dark Samus, but Metroid Prime's core form.

Essence-of-Metroid-Prime.jpg

Give it some moves from Dark Samus and the ability to create Metroids and it could be a very cool playable character. You could get around the "inhuman shape" by having some of its tentacles drag on the ground.

Metroid Fusion still needs more love.
It already got a 3D remake, what more do you want? :P

I'll interject on the Sonic debate.

- Unleashed was one-half great game (daytime levels) & one-half pointless gimmick (nighttime Werehog levels).
- Lost World U had solid controls that had a considerable learning curve, but the second half of the game had hit-or-miss level design.

Considering these factors, I'd have to rank Lost World U above Unleashed.

Nah. That's just Dark Samus' final smash in Smash Bros 5/6.

It could be the Smash version of Shuma Gorath!

Metroid Prime would never happen though just because the Dark Samus form is much more recognisable/popular/easier to include as a samus clone.
