Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

I know that's what they're intended to be, but to me they're more of a "Hey look, it's your favourite character! Bet you'd like to play as them wouldn't you? Well you can't! Now watch as they appear and do their signature moves until you turn items off in a week"

Oh yeah, I feel that. A few of the assist trophy reveals made me feel that way (Dillon especially). I've come to terms to be happy that he's in the game at all. There's always next time I suppose, just look at Mac.

So can we talk about how Sakurai has obviously been checking character requests online way harder this time around? Just look at the assist trophy roster.

My top 3 wanted newcomers are there :)
:'(

Dark Samus, Skull Kid, and Dillon.

I have Mac though who was like number 4, so I'm not all disappointed.

Also, it's very unlikely, and I'll most likely be disappointed, but I'm hoping there's an Assist Upgrade DLC pack down the line that makes some Assist Trophies playable. Obviously they'd not appear as assists when someone's playing them :P

I've been watching a few direct feed videos recently and I literally can't wait to play this game.
Looks gorgeous. Can't even imagine how good it looks in person.. hhnnngg

The one thing smash doesn't have is a grapple character. That would be glorious.
On the topic of obscure characters, what could both fill the grapple character spot and be a replacement for Ice Climbers:

Have the boy and girl (whatever their names are) function like Ice Climbers with their primary weapon being Ultra Hand (toy Nintendo manufactured in the 60s) which can be used to grapple enemies and swing them around.

Amusingly enough, Ultra Hand isn't even that obscure. I wonder what the most obscure character/thing would be; perhaps something related to the Laser Clay Shooting System or the instant rice they produced for a short period of time before it was withdrawn.

Rool and Ridley would make excellent assist trophies IMO.

They would make excellent playable characters. I view K. Rool and Ridley as a package deal of sorts. I can't see them making K. Rool a boss while Ridley is playable, and vice versa. Considering how Sakurai has actually been listening to the fans this time, I'm feeling pretty good about their chances.

Honestly, I usually play things safe by avoiding avatar bets, but I'm pretty confident Rool and Ridley together will not make it in.

Reallllllly. Are you betting for both, or can it be for just one... Because I don't think Rool will be in, but I'm sure
(to be disappointed if I'm wrong)
Ridley will.

Grappler doesn't mean "his moves look like wrestling moves". A grappler is a character that gets most of his damage off of throws. This usually means a command grab of some kind. Browser is arguably a grappler, but not because he has a drop kick.

Is there ever a case of a major boss being an assist trophy? Rather insulting imo.

Want to avatar bet on that? :V

Assuming this thing is real and not just an invention of the imagination of some Nintendo Wikia editor, my vote for most obscure Nintendo thing would be the apparent Japanese propaganda board game they made during WWII, or some other Japanese propaganda product they made during one of Japan's wars in the 20th century.

The Kremlings presence in Smash Run makes me feel better about K. Rool's chances, at least. I'm not really counting on it, though.

If they're not present in the main game in any way, I'd be expecting them as DLC.

The Kremlings are in Smash Run as an extension of DK & Diddy. It's not like King K. Rool is his own franchise.

I think it's more the fact that the kremlings are being represented at all during a period where people are proclaiming them as dead has-beens.

Yeah, that's it exactly. Plenty of people were talking about how K. Rool and the Kremlings were irrelevant, and wouldn't have Smash representation outside of trophies. Then we see the Kremlings as enemies in Smash Run! Clearly someone remembers them.

Yeah, I don't understand that sentiment either. The Kremlings have no bearing one way or the other on K. Rool's playability -- they're DK enemies, not K. Rool enemies. The Underworld Army enemies aren't hinting at Medusa or Hades, Mettaur isn't hinting at Dr. Wily, and so on.

Or someone realized they could get a bit more mileage out of Brawl's trophies by converting them into Smash run enemies.
