Great post. I don't feel quite as sentimental as this, but agreed that most of the characters in previous Smash games were there for a reason and its a bit of a shame.

So it's 2.1 gigs! That's a big 3DS game!

Only ones I can see that are bigger are DKCR (2.2 Gigs) and RE:Revelaitons (3.2 Gigs).

Everything else is smaller. DKCR, I assume, is just because it likely didnt optimize as well as it could have - it still has a decent amount of assets, though.

I think we can be pretty sure this game will not lack for content :)
 
C-stick is really important at high levels. It lets you do things that would ordinarily by impossible without TAS, like smash attacks during dash pivots or aerials while moving in the opposite direction.

I guess I'm not high level then. :p Maybe I should try practicing with the C-stick.

The Wii U version may still have that one anyway, and I think Smash Wii U will still be the favorite for the pros.

I'm kinda "Ehhhh" on the whole Snake being cut thing. If he's in I'm okay with that but if he's cut I'm ok with that too. I mean he's 3rd party as well so in that regard I view Roy and Pichu being cut from the Brawl roster more of a drawback than Snake getting possibly cut from Smash 4 because they're actually first party.

Another reason is games on system. Sonic has a very close relationship with Nintendo right now and Namco is helping make the game so it just kinda makes sense that Pac-man would show up. Snake? Ehh, not so much. Maybe if the recent Metal Gear games had shown up on Nintendo systems I'd feel differently.

I still think Snake could be in as a secret character.

Then again I have a hard time believing Pac Man will be a starter.
 
Hell, even if Smash 4 supported the CPP, I probably still wouldn't use it. That would require me to actually buy one. All serious playing is on Wii U anyway.
 
I think some of those cuts were due to time constraints rather than straight out replacements. Mewtwo, Roy, and Dr. Mario were all assumed to be returning in Brawl. (Mewtwo and Roy having to furthest progress within their .pac files in comparison to the other "Forbidden Seven")

Interesting. But I think with FE getting 2 new Smash characters (and Lucina playing the Marth clone card), Roy's chances are pretty much zero. Mewtwo looks like he still have a solid case if both him and Lucario were planned to be in Brawl. As for Dr. Mario, with alt costumes getting into this version, chances are he's a Mario alt. But I would be glad to be wrong too. :)

You can pivot Smash with the normal control stick. Can't you? Now I'm doubting myself lol. C-stick for pivots seems better though, since you can miss the timing and not dash attack.
 
Wow, the schadenfreude in this thread is pathetic. "Hah! A character that doesn't deserve to be in my beloved Smash Bros. is cut!"

Snake brought with him a charm and playstyle that no other Nintendo character can replace and the game is lesser for losing out on him.

Although I want Snake back on the roster as well, I must disagree with this. Sami from Advance Wars would make perfect sense with the same moveset, though she wouldn't have the charm of a gritty character in a cartoony game like Snake was known for.
 
At this point, my only hope is for snake to be *THE* final reveal, with the line 'Kept you waiting, huh?'

20-ish days before I lose all hope.
And then DLC hope starts and doesn't end until 2016.

So how far will you guys go with spoilers once the game releases?

I'm gonna definitely spoil the roster.

Definitely look into if online play is good. (just so I know)


Maybe look into movesets for veterans, e.g. ganondorf.

Outside of those things I wanna try and stay spoiler free in regards to content.

I think I'll probably spoil the roster. I imagine it's going to be hard to avoid spoilers about it regardless. I want to know the extent of single player mode(s), too. And if online play is good. That's probably about it.

Ahh, I missed that one, thanks! All the lists I saw were from last year, so some of the newer stuff isn't on there. Bravely default has tons of voice acting and cutscenes, so that makes sense.


I wonder if the newcomer trailers will be on the 3DS game or not. at 2.1gigs, they're either really compressed or not on there. I wouldn't be surprised if that kind of stuff was left for the Wii U one.

I'm pretty sure that would require you to smash stick to turn around, wait (I think) four frames, then smash the stick and press A within one frame. That's TAS stuff. Doing it with the C-stick is hard enough as it is.

Do we expect there will be any unrevealed characters by the time the game releases in Japan, or do we expect to have official reveals of all of the characters prior to that time? (What happened with past releases? I don't think I paid close attention to any of the prior releases in terms of pre-release character reveals.)

Not that big, but top 5 3DS games! So for 3DS, yes, it's big. Also means it's too big to download on the 2 gig card that came w/ vanilla 3DSes. Melee was like... 900ish megs, so, this is more than twice the size of melee :p

I don't remember when Sakurai updated the Brawl Dojo with the complete roster hidden behind spoiler blocks. Some people say it was for the Japanese release, but I really don't remember.

I imagine there will be several veterans who are not officially revealed. Every newcomer, since they have trailers, will be revealed beforehand though. Then it's up to Sakurai I guess with what gets put on the Dojo.

I don't get celebrating about any cut character.

I really don't understand the mindset behind most of the gravedancing. If Snake were the equivalent of Necrid or Decapre, sure, but wasn't he generally well-liked in Brawl? Though it could just be bitterness - I really don't think much of this negative sentiment would exist if he were confirmed earlier.
 
I'm sorry for everybody who wants him in but I'm really happy if he's gone. I despise MGS and Snake as a character and his design. Moveset was okay tho.

Brawl had all of the trailers on the disc... why not? It's a neat thing for people who don't follow video game news at all. There are probably a handful of people buying the game who may not have seen any or all of them.

Sakurai likes to put everything and the kitchen sink in, so I suspect they'll be in the Wii U version for sure.
