This is a disaster. Captain Johnson isn't handling this that much better than Ferguson PD at all. The National Guard is running up and down playing pretend Call of Duty. Despite there being "no curfew", there are now bullshit buffer zones that state you can't even stand still without running the risk of getting arrested. Press continues to be harassed and corralled around and shown only what the police wants them to see. They continue to escalate situations then blame some nebulous group of indeterminate anarchists as the reason for backlash against escalations they themselves started.
This is a complete and utter failure of every aspect of this law enforcement team. I honestly have no fucking clue what's going to happen over the next few days. If the cops continue to act the way they've been acting there's going to be a night where shit will seriously hit the fan. People aren't going to be willing to be bullied like this much longer, and with every passing day the country looks worse and worse as a democracy.

Yes. Their protests were inconvenient to the police. They didn't move to the designated free speech area.

There was that one guy that the protesters handed over to the police because IIRC he was a rioter, thus the whole group has been tarnished.

I am not gonna lie. I have only followed this story through the updates on the internet and in newspapers til tonight. This is the first time I've tuned into the tv news media to watch this firsthand. My god! This is unreal! The militarized police. The raised guns(I mean seriously, these pictures are going to make the next generation shake their heads in disbelief in history class). The looting(which helps no ones cause) but more reflects the poor state of income inequality then whatever it was foxnews was pushing. But again, these cops. I mean holy shit! How fucking incompetent and inflammatory can you be? Protect and serve my fucking ass. It's basically a legalized gang that is trying to enforce it's dominance.

In the modern world I struggle to see why a grad media student is more important than the army of unpaid reporters on Twitter (whom the press use).

I am in the same situation and I have been in tears all night. The image of all white police officers aiming semiautomatic rifles at protestors from armored vehicles with gas masks is just so powerful. And the images of protestors picking up canisters and throwing them back at the police. I'm in disbelief that the people of my country are facing this injustice and discrimination, when all they want is equality. It does not look like America.
