Sorry, didn't mean to seem like I was against it. I would never advocate against something that's doing so much good. It's just getting to the point where it's groan-worthy, ala harlem shake.
Hey now. Harlem Shake was epicly awesome.

What about this is groan-worthy? There is literally nothing bad about this entire thing. It's raising awareness and people are donating. Those are good things.
Who cares? Money is being raised for charity. Why does it bother you how?
Oh my god, noooooooooooooo. They've taken the buckets to Isengard
I think you're not understanding the difference between this and standard viral videos. They are good things. I said that. I'm not trying to say this is a bad thing, I'm saying that dozens of people posting the same exact video over and over again on my Facebook feed eventually leads to me groaning when another one is posted.
It happens all the time. It's the internet. Things get pushed so fast over such a short time period that you can't help but cringe when you see another, regardless of what it is. Grumpy cat, Harlem Shake, memes in general, etc etc
It's not about caring. Never once have I wished that people would stop donating money to charity. To me, personally, the method is uncomfortable.
Good for you OP. People hating on this are insane. It's something silly for a good cause.

All that just to not donate $100.

You honestly can't cut this one a little slack?

Hating is good. Hating increases awareness too.

Alright I don't know how else to say this really, so here's one last attempt. Not trying to make anyone upset or step on any toes, just trying to clarify my (unimportant) opinion on these videos.
1. They are for a good cause. It's great. Donating and charity, no matter the method, is wonderful.
2. The general premise, perhaps due to the awkwardness of the majority of people in the videos, makes me groan.
3. The frequency of posts on Facebook and beyond makes me groan.
That's it. No conspiracy. I don't hate the videos and I don't hate charity, they just make me feel a particular thing. Similar to how they make you feel a particular thing. We all feel differently.

He didn't claim to.
That dude needs to get off social media if this kind of thing is causing him problems. I see a bunch of stuff go viral, and it only clutters me up for 5 seconds before I ignore and browse something I'm interested in.I still don't get what you're trying to say. Am I not beautiful enough for this to be worth your while? I mean, have you already donated and are now sick of hearing about ALS? Are you upset about people spreading awareness because it is "old news?"
When WPC posted it of Satya and Steve doing it, I didn't know what ALS was so I never clicked it. But because it was a Phil Spencer thread on GAF, I saw it and read all I could.
Who knows, maybe someone in off-topic wouldn't have seen the gaming thread or something?
If my video gets one dude to donate, that's awesome.
If it gets EviLore to donate (if he hasn't already) AND make an epic video that the whole of GAF would love to see, and gets someone else to donate, then it isn't "groan-worthy"

I don't do much social media because, yeah, I'm easily annoyed by this stuff. That said, this is causing me zero problems.
I have a shitty opinion, we've established this. Let's move on. You guys can PM me if you feel the need to dissect it more.

How many friends on FB do you have? I hover around 100, of people I at least know or am curious about, denied a lot and don't even have some of my good friends wives/girlfriends and such added ... I never understood these complaints. If you have 500 friends you should expect spam, not all of those people are "friends" and if they are "friending" you because you met them once, they are going to spam.
It sounds like you're just complaining about your shitty FB feed and not the charity.
This Ice Bucket thing is such a 'hey look at me' thing, ugh.
