PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | August 2014

I think you are misreading what he means.

Events like E3 and Gamescom get massive media coverage, the kind that penetrates past even typical gaming sites and appeals to folks who don't even own these systems. You want to put the products out there that sell and draw attention - and unfortunately the Vita ain't it.

Like they could have spent 30 seconds talking about Freedom Wars on stage at Gamescom and announced a release date but what does that do for anyone? Instead you just post it in a blog update where most folks who own Vitas are going to see it anyway.

Yep, it's all about the opportunity cost. Five minutes talking about Vita is five minutes not talking about PS4. And as good as the Vita is, it's clear it's not going to be a big money maker for the company the way the PS4 could be.

SAO up on the EU web store now, couldn't see it on my Vita. $60 in Australia, that was the price I was worried about. Really should be $40-50 max, especially with that localisation.

CounterSpy is an "almost PS1 level game"? Your posts are parody right? Surely?

Really?

High res, artstyle and lights help, but it's very far from being a heavy game for Vita, if this game needs to be sub native then Killzone Mercenary needs a PS4 to run.
Did you forget MGS?

Doing my part and downloading SAO now. I really hope that one day Australians will stop being ripped off with prices. Quite a few releases recently gave equal prices with the US so it's sad to see Bamco charging so much for this.

It's especially annoying because One Piece Unlimited World Red and DragonBall Z: Battle of Z were $60 at retail but were $47.95 digitally and yet this is digital-only and is $60 instead.

I'll still reluctantly buy it but i'm not happy.
Is it just me or is the One Piece Unlimited World Red season pass price of $44.95 AUD just a little bit crazy?
$3 less than paying for the game itself digitally, hooray for fair pricing.

Yeah they're taking the piss. It's 29 pounds in the UK which should convert to $50AU. I'm really disappointed especially since they obviously cut significant costs with a dodgy localisation and no physical release.

Edit: BUY THE SWAPPER!

Welcome the new generation of gaming, where extra superflous content costs as much as the base game itself.

Bought SAO

Nobody likes Yui anyway

... I liked her.

I haven't seen the second part of the season, so maybe she gets crappy, but otherwise I liked her. She has flaws, I know, and is kinda Mary Sue, but even with that I thought that the character was cute. But I'm saying this as a brotherly manner, not anything sexual, for the love of god.

I kind of liked her too. Aura from .hack// is still best AI though :)

SAO still beasting in the US store. More than 600 ratings in less than 24 hours.

That isn't bad for a DD only game. And considering digital games don't drop in price when demand lowers first week sales aren't as important as long as people gets it at full price.

2 hours left for SAO, pretty slow speeds on my Vita tonight.

Probably won't get to playing it before I sleep tonight, look forward to giving it a go tomorrow though.

Oi, :(

edit: Aura is great too, I like them for different reasons. Yui because she is cute, Aura because she is mysterious. At least at the start. And I don't know, I just like Aura :D
It was meant as a joke, I don't really like or dislike Yui

so comparing a minimalist art styled game with a game that attempted to achieve real life graphics in a psx way. And you also are comparing an indie game vs a big game from a big company ... Seems fair. Texture resolution being the same for these two games is hilarious... Haha. If you are playing graphics don't buy indie stuff because a 90% of the games are low budget " bad" graphics games but most of them with excellent gameplay.

So I don't know anything about Counterspy, is it good? The art style looks really cool.

Check out the OT, lots of impressions. Can't recommend on Vita, but it runs fine on PS4 unsurprisingly. Art style and comedy are great, gameplay is fun, but the procedural generated levels aren't perfect. Certain "parts" don't seem to be fair--while every level is definitely possible, it's pretty hard to consistently get a full-stealth run just because certain segments are silly.

The 2D/3D switches are great though. I'd say it's a good game but the flawed bits of certain levels keep it from being great.

Playing on PS4 with the DS4's speakers feel very satisfying for some reason.

Also, anyone playing Road Not Taken? Game is incredibly addictive and frustrating.

The stone bowls are checkpoints. Use them if you have the slightest fear of death. I got though with only about 6 deaths, well below average for a rougelike.

What function does the Dual Shock 4's speaker serve in the PS4 version?

When you finish enemies off when they're knocked down, the PS4 blasts out the sound and vibrate each time you pound him to death. Whats especially cool is that you also can choose to use the gyro(I think) and move the controller up and down to smash the guy down.

Yeah, just figured that out, learning to save up as much as possible now that Im in my 10th year. Very enjoyable game. Got any tips to take out the
Demon Rabbits
?

Stay the F*CK away from those things. If you're more than two spaces away they won't advance, though they chase anything living on the field (I think spirits too), You can stun them with an axe, or even longer with a spear, or throw potions at them to stun/etc them. I don't know of any way to kill them--look at the Secrets page for anything that's giving you trouble, if it turns into another thing, you can "kill" it with that item...but these jerks don't seem to be ingredients for any recipes.

Note that if you die, the level you get will be different and I believe checkpoints are permanent until you manually delete them or save at a higher level. Also, your banlist persists through playthroughs not just deaths, so it's nice to build up a banlist just by playing and befriending villagers.

Also, dark spirits after you? Just pick 'em up/"collect" them by walking over them. It hurts less, unless you can cook 'em with blue fire. Picking them up is preferable to taking melee damage from them, especially Very Angry Spirits. Last pro tip: 3 scared bees = VERY GOOD.

Damn, so
the killer rabbits
are unkillable and oh man, the ban list has been helpful as hell, freaking hate
raccoons and boars
. Used to be scared of dark spirits till I learned they can be converted to
stew
. Also,I havent tried bees combo, Ill try it next time I play.

And thanks for the tips man. Btw, just asking but did you marry Eve, mine's married to Red,turns out
she cant get pregnant and is now sick
. Anything up with Eve?

Boars
aren't too bad, they only attack...down and left IIRC? Throw them into the corner from the top and they're harmless, or throw two together to make
a pig. Science.
. You can cook
raccoon
too I think.

Is Eve the one with the ticking biological clock? If so
yes she got sick, no amount of medicine helped her but she didn't die.
I tried marrying her because I thought it was the only way--but now I think you can marry anyone, since one of the dudes actually asked me to get serious, wasn't expecting that. If you "romance" a dude and they ask you
to take your hood off does your character turn out to be female?
I was surprised when that happened, but only tried marriage once so far. Will do another playthrough eventually.

Also...there will come a time when it is possible to lose children permanently (within a level). Probably in the last couple of years you'll see what I mean. Act fast.

When I got asked
to take off my hood, ranger has horns and a mohawk, hard to tell but most likely is a man
. Ill try romanincg a guy when I finish off my 15 years which is 5 years left now. By your last sentence, Im thinking its gonna get even more frustrating.

Yeah,
apperance is definitely RNG, as are the villager's appearance. Unsure about the sex of the ranger though.

I THINK the potentially dead kids will always account for less than 50% of children, so it's always possible...but a 100% rescued run would be really tough. Also, you can abandon >50% of kids ONCE per playthrough if you want. But uh. There are some REALLY damn hard rooms. I only saw
Lodestones
once and I've had them banned ever since. Ugh.

Edit:

I read that your gender is solely determined by the question about who you looked up to more, mother or father. Also have heard this allows you to marry male or female characters.

Also, I am really bummed to hear what you guys are saying about
the demon bunnies.
I finally had a great run to year 9 or 10 and 3-4 of those things just completely destroyed me to the point I had no idea how to handle it. I guess I will ban them at some point.

Pretty sure that
gender is irrelevant to who you can marry,
but I haven't tried. Would be cool if so. Regarding
demon bunnies
just stay away from 'em. They're not TOO common and aren't long ranged or extremely aggressive, I fonud them to be moderate difficulty at worst. Can't be sure of this, but they never seemed to spawn in demon state in an area where they totally blocked my progress. Also, you're saving, right? I'd save at least once every few years past year 5, and definitely once you hit 10. No point in redoing the whole career unless you're going for the hardcore trophies.

I got my Danganronpa 2 review code.
I can't really talk about it now though :/

I er don't suppose NISA does review codes for Youtubers? ...I guess I'd need a Vita TV anyway though.

BlueMaxima does get review codes often.

Also he uses a HDMI-modded Vita, not a Vita TV.

I wanted one of those but Vitas have gone up in price. I want to see how far I can get with Vita TV before I drop an extra $300~ for a second one + HDMI capture board installation. Long term I want it, but YT hasn't really been raking in enough cash to make it a priority right now.

God, loadstones, freaking hate em too. I once found room where it was filled with
loadstones, raccoons, wolves, a goat, flowers and a kid.
Wont spoil it but it was fun save.

Speaking of saving, the further I go on, the harder it is to save all of them, doesnt help that the mayor often likes to say IIRC 'We'll just make more'. This is one freaky village.

Also, I think Im saving thanks to autosave, seems like no way to manually save.

Not sure on gender thing. Cant believe Im saying but im now terrified when
rabbits
appear. Gotta be a reference to
Monty Python
.

Oh no I meant the checkpoints. Saving is 100% automatic, seems to do it every single turn with no feedback--makes closing the game for the first time a bit scary.

I have not bothered reusing saves yet, but I will probably do so for the trophies.

Edit - I see what you mean. I have not used the in game save points. I meant using cloud saves to redo sections I get stuck on.
