season 2 of korra was the most toxic television ive ever watched in my life

i swear i have some sort of stress disorder related to this show specifically because of book 2. i get anxious when the main group is in the same room because i dont want to deal with the way everybody acted back then AGAIN.

I really can't understand how anyone could like this.

The DRAMZ in this season was silly. Stop breaking up and getting together and breaking up and poor Asami. ;_;

No lie, like I said before, the whole "spirits" thing just rubbed me the wrong way, it just didn't feel like it fit the show, and I don't remember the "bridge between two worlds" thing being as big of a deal in the first show. It feels outlandish even for this world.

But dudes and dudettes, giant Korra vs. giant evil Avatar is fun to watch.

The trope itself means nothing. The problem is the nonsensical reasoning of the things happening. Even the writers aren't sure why any of it happened. But if it had actual good writing behind it, Korra becoming a titan could have been awesome.

Yeah. The writing was just abysmal. The spirit tree, Jinora...all that came out of nowhere. Not to mention that Unalaq was a terrible villain. EVILLLL being the motivation for a villain isn't necessarily a bad thing in a story (Ozai, Palpatine, etc), but writing it in such a way that you have Unalaq (eevvvvillll) and then even MORE evvvillll (Vaatu) behind it is just sloppy. There wasn't even any misguided-ness to Unalaq.

that pacific rim like ending is the reason I'm nervous of how season 3 will go down

I'm starting to feel like Zaheer's crew will get beat by some sort of deus ex machina

Hopefully they don't end the red lotus that easily

Ozai is a product of the war his grandfather started. He had the inferiority complex with Iroh. He was a racial surpremist who was so deluded into thinking the Fire Nation way of life was the only way to live and that his culture deserved the whole world, other races be damned. He's a simplistic villain but he is a representation of the war itself.

I don't know what Unalaqs deal was exactly. Did he have a complex too with Tonraq? I guess? Possibly? But why does he want to release Vaatu exactly? Why does he think the world can coexist with spirits? Why does he think Wan was wrong to seal the portals? Why does he think the Avatar is bad? Why does he want to be a Dark Avatar?

Does he just have an ambition for power? I mean I guess he's similar to Ozai in that way but I don't know, whereas I thoight Ozai was pretty scary for the entirety of Avatar, which I suppose was influenced by Aang and Zukos own fear and the Rokus warning of the arrival of Sozins comet, I just dont feel anything for Unalaq.

I guess it's cause we can comprehend easily the 100 year war as it's similar to othee wars of expansion and racial supremacy, but Unalaqs plan is just "what"

While I do think Book 2 was the weakest of the books so far, I still enjoyed it. And while I don't think the giant Unavaatu and giant spirit Korra thing made sense, it was still entertaining to watch.

Edit: Yeah, Unalaq was a lame villain. I kept thinking maybe Unalaq was slightly possessed or being controlled by Vaatu after accidently stumbling across him in the spirit world or something. That I felt would have been better than Unalaq's " I'ma gonna destroy the world for spirits!" shtick he kept spouting.

Book 2's ending is the reason why I still believe Book 3 can completely shit the bed in the remaining episodes and bring the level down to the other Korra seasons.

You guys are way too harsh on Book 2 whilst it was definitely a messy uneven season I wouldn't call the whole Book toxic or terrible, there's still some good stuff in it. It improved quite a bit after the Wan episodes even if the final didn't make much sense (freaking Deus-ex-Jinora).
It still gave us one of the best characters in the show so far Varrick.

Got quite the Avatar haul today. Decided to get the Book 2 Bluray today and as a nice bonus the ATLA comics also finally arrived in the mail. So I can finally get around to reading what happened to the gang after ATLA and oh the Audio Commentaries for Book 2 should be fun to listen to.

It was well animated...but honestly it took all the things that I disliked about season 1, multiply them while adding even more problems on top of them.

Legend of Korra as a whole, pretty much solidified my stance on romance in my writing. (If it's not a romance story, than the romance is either non existent or skimmed over,)

Couple more TV critics talking about the finale and they seem to really love the finale
Some Spoilers in the discussion though !!!

I'm really curious now as to what is in that final shot
Did it...did it
leak
yet?

I wanna
watch
it.

Nope But Amazon will most likely release it about 10 hours early yet again.

Yeah the Romance/shipping in Korra has always been one of the worst aspects of the show.

Man, if the finale is as good as everyone is saying it is then this entire season might redeem all of Legend of Korra.

eeeeeeeeeeeh. It'd take a lot to redeem season 1's later half and most of season 2. And one solid season won't do it. They've fixed many issues I've had, but once they can give us a season with amazing character development from the krew, then we'll talk.

Aka I really like Bolin, and he has been the butt of the joke this whole time and hasn't really evolved as a character besides that one time he talked to Opal and he admitted that he gets nervous and starts acting like a clown. After that he's back to "bleep bloop catchphrase!"

that probably would have been cool in like any other show but it just didnt work in LoK

symmetrical beam battles are almost always awful.

It's lazy shorthand used when you're not able to find a better way to show that two opponents are equally matched.

I agree that character development is something this show heavily needs to work on. For the most part I enjoyed season 1 (pretty much every single episode except for the season finale) because it showed the most growth out of the characters and the equalist plotline was intriguing. This season, they've got the villains down pat but they haven't really aced building on the characters yet. Like, if I were to ask you how the KREW changed character-wise from the beginning of this season to the end, you couldn't really say much.

Most of the good character development has actually been to the supporting cast: Bumi, Tenzin, the villains, Su and Lin, etc. It's gotten to the point that I care more about the supporting cast than the actual main characters because they aren't changing for the better. They're just in stasis and that's not very interesting.

Aside from poor character development for the Krew, everything else this season has been ace and if I could somehow ignore Season 2 aside from the Wan storyline, then I'd say Legend of Korra is a show that was worthy of the Avatar name which is something I couldn't say a year ago.

Season 2 finale. We're currently near the end of season 3. Wan stuff was part of season 2.

whoosh

These two were both likeable and good together back then.

Those were the days.

I've never stopped liking Bolin though. I do think he's a bit overused this season. I wanna see Asami as Bolin's foil more. The stakeout scene where they played the game was fantastic.

Korra and Bolin seemed uncomplicated and fun back then. Of course that was before Korra strung him along and tried to drive a wedge between Mako and Asami - who turned on her own father and left her life of luxury to support her. That just reminds me how much of a piece of work Korra was from the get-go, and Bolin - who I still like though a lot less dude to his idiocy in season 2 - he has indeed become overused and he's not as funny as before. In season 1 he was funny, had his moments to shine and he was actually pretty sweet towards Korra. Now I find him painfully unfunny at times and just wish he didn't have any lines.

Asami is the real queen of the show. Selfless, intelligent, resourceful and strong in a number of ways. She's a boss. I could see her being good for Bolin and vice-versa, but I think as far as romance goes in the Krew, their dynamic has taken enough of a hit. I'd like her with Iroh or someone else entirely. Just not Mako. In fact, I'd prefer the whole Krew to find someone outside of their group (though Korra and Mako will probably end up together).
