I'd actually love the leaked roster if the DLC addendum is legitimate. Without those five characters (Ice Climbers, Lucas, Wolf, Snake, and Chorus Kids) then it's pretty terrible. Dr. Mario and Dark Pit making the cut over Wolf would haunt me for the rest of my days, and it wouldn't feel like Smash Bros. at this point without the Ice Climbers.

One part of the stage selection that seems really bizarre to me is the lack of a new Star Fox stage--there's a stage based on Ocarina of Time 3D of all things (it being one of two new Zelda stages) but Star Fox 64 3D, the only new Star Fox game released since Brawl, get's skipped over? What?

So I personally think the Tomodachi room does lend credence to the leak's authenticity.
You've got to consider though, whether it's real or not, the chance is equally small that the same room from the Famitsu scan would appear in the leak. You know what I mean? If there are multiple rooms (which we know there are), then what are the odds that the screenshot a leaker would choose to release and a promotional photo from a magazine would appear so close together both featuring the same room?
Slim, the odds are.
The convoluted explanations for how the leaker could have got his or her hands on an early copy of the magazine and included the photo are just a little too far-fetched for me though, which is why I'm still #TeamReal.

So I won't join a team for this leak, but I was wondering, if Sakurai said they were almost out of newcomer videos, then what are the chances that there would be DHD, Shulk and Bowser Jr all as newcomers? Is it that he'd put them all in the same video? Most of the videos have had some sort of theme, so he would have to have at least 3 to introduce these newcomers if he follows that pattern (not saying Sakurai follows a pattern).
And of course, doesn't that make it even more unlikely for the rumor with Dixie Kong, Mewtwo, etc. to be true? Just wanted to know what you guys thought about that.

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense. OOT 3D, Nintendogs + Cats, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, and other 3DS titles have stages with assets pulled right from the source... so why wouldn't Star Fox 64 3D? It came out at exactly the right time, too.

I'm sure the console version will be better (as I said before, at the very least we'll probably get new DK, Wario and Yoshi stages on there to compensate),I just think the abundance of retro stages as opposed to new stuff sticks out in a sea of polish (aside from the reused victory themes).
This and the lack of a Dark Moon stage would be the most disappointing thing to me. Considering how amazing SF643D looks--3D and all--I was really looking forward to it.

I really hope, assuming the leak is legitimate, that they didn't make the decision to skimp out on new stages on opposite versions for some franchises because it got a new stage in the other. Like... there being no new Kirby stage in the Wii U version because there's a new Kirby stage in the 3DS version. That would be a surefire way to make sure the two games can't stand on their own like they're supposed to.

I'm not even sure why that particular theory is entertained in the first place, and I don't believe in the leak at all. If they did have the scan, why did they change the layout and position of the room? The leak shows the room on the top floor with a flipped couch, a different Mii in the room and some sort of plant/sprout behind the couch. The Famitsu scan is on the second floor and shows none of the above.
The way I see it, it's just a damn good coincidence, and the things separating it from that scan makes it all the more dubious to me.

I think there might not be newcomer trailers for all the new characters, they could keep some secret for after release, or he could do a bonkers newcomer trailer that confirms lots of unrelated characters, the man is nuts! Falcon's return being tacked onto the Fire Emblem newcomers trailer was a little odd, you know?

There is literally zero reason to think that. All of the franchises have their stages listed together, the past stages are mixed together with the new ones, and only like three minor franchises have no stage at all.

Yeah, if the leak is real I'm hoping that's not all the stages. Donkey Kong Country Returns hit both 3DS and Wii, so it should have at least one level shared across both platforms.

I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't dislike the idea of Dark Pit. He'd almost certainly be a hell of a lot more interesting than Dr. Mario (a known - and lame - quantity), and there's absolutely no reason to think he couldn't be a "clone and a half" like Wolf or Toon Link and not just a straight-up clone like Falco.

For me, the stage select screen is the biggest thing counting against this leak. First, it's strange that the retro stages are mixed in with the new stages when in both Melee and Brawl, the retro stages were off in their own group. But I could accept that as an actual change.
The thing that gets me is the fact there there are no new DK, Metroid, Yoshi, or Star Fox stages. Those are four franchises that have been around since 64 and have gotten at least one new stage in every game, and you're trying to tell me that all they get is one retro stage apiece? I don't buy that for a second. The 3DS isn't so low on power, nor do I believe the developers were they that short on time, that they had to skimp on stages for four of Smash's major franchises. Considering the leak lists him alongside Dr. Mario and Lucina (who is a known clone, as big a clone as a clone can be), the only two other characters who are listed completely separately from the rest of their franchises and very specifically listed together there is literally no reason to think he'd be anything but a straight up Lucina/Dr. Mario style clone.

Lotta people supporting Dark Pit as a potential character in this thread. You're absolutely not alone.
I think the problem is mostly that maybe 5% of the Smash fanbase has actually played Kid Icarus Uprising so they don't really know he's unique, has his own potential weapon arsenal, and isn't just a cheap "dark version" character like Dark Link or whatever.

I do wish they had picked a different area of the game though.
Toad Town, Goomba village, Gusty Gulch/ Tubba Blubba's mansion, Shy Guy's Toybox, The Crystal Palace, Starborn Valley, Peach's Castle (be it the regular courtyard, the Main hall, Peach's chambers or the Final Boss arena) or especially Star Haven would all have been more visually interesting and do more justice to the game's aesthetic.
At least we finally get a Bowser's Caste stage of some sort. And of course they may have found some way to make it more interesting.

We're still missing quite a bit of veterans, which points towards unlockables. It's very likely that at least one of those three is unlockable, so we wouldn't know about all of them before launch.

Agreed on this. There's other characters I would choose first, but I feel like Dr. Mario (and I'm saying this as a Mario/Dr. Mario main in Melee) should just be an alt. I also feel like Dark Pit should be an alt, but at least he's a completely different character. However, as long as both differentiate themselves from their sources, I'm fine with both.

I'm of the understanding that Dark Pit being in the game doesn't replace another character I would've liked instead. However, the resources spent making that clone character could've been spent making a more deserving clone character.
It's not so much that Dark Pit is terrible or anything, it's that other franchises should have had more representation, even as clones, before Kid Icarus.

At least Dr. Mario has a different outfit. As far as we know, Dark Pit looks to be nothing more than a recolor of Pit.
As for there being "absolutely no reason to think he couldn't be a 'clone and a half'" - if Lucina is any indication, then yes, there is some reason to think he'll be a straight clone. That's by no means a rock-solid reason, but it's more evidence than we have to support the idea that he's a "clone-and-a-half."
To be clear, I don't think Dark Pit's a terrible choice, but he does seem to me to be the most boring choice. I'd much rather have the Doc.

Yeah, I think you probably nailed it here - it's just ignorance of Kid Icarus: Uprising in general (which itself should be a punishable gaming crime). I mean, yeah, there are some characters I'd take before both him and Doc, but at least Dark Pit is actually a separate character with his own identity. Dr. Mario is literally Mario wearing a doctor's coat. Come ON.
Yeah, I think they could both work as alts, but I think Doc is MUCH closer to being an alt than Dark Pit. I could easily see Dark Pit being a Lucina-type character with slightly different abilities from Pit. I mean, just based on playing Uprising, it's quite clear the two are not similar at all in anything besides outward appearance.
More so knowing that Pitoo actually has the potential to be different. As for Dr. Mario, he has the potential to bring back Melee Mario.
Lots of people speculated this when the stage was first revealed. It wouldn't hurt or help the leak.
