It makes no sense in the long run. It's just a series of villains in each season who comes out with a plan to destroy the current world order. They all have different goals. It's weird how none of them overlapped except Red Lotus and super evil spirit guy. It's just weird how the Equalists end, Water Tribe attacks, Red Lotus attacks. Be cooler if her uncle was in the first season and Zaheer was mentioned previous before season 3. Would have made the world feel more together rather than disjointed seasons.

It's not like the glider was super inconvenient all the time, sure you get taken out on it, but if you got hit with the attack instead of the glider you're still going down anyway.

Just seemed like such a cheesy attempt to make him stand out as a villian, like they painted themselves in a corner with him being an airbender, they had to come up with something unique and that's all they could do.

With a glider you have to keep moving, you really can't just stay in one place.

I get that they were trying to give humanity to these guys but the writers had some issues since these guys had no second thoughts on killing the main cast when they had a chance, and a scene later they were hanging out like buddy buddies not to mention in the finale

and then the very next scene they're back out there trying to kill the innocent with little reasoning besides anarchy is great.

I can only agree. As I said, they should've taken more time to develop, like one episode where they just having a day of to prepare for the battle or waiting on news or something.

I miss something like Tales from Ba Sing Se throughout Korra.

Not entirely. Air Nomads were all about freedom from the affairs of other nations and spirituality. There really was no government outside of a group of wise masters, which just means it followed that very basic form of whatever govt. type it is that is 'ruled' by wise elders.

He probably saw the means of getting to it as justifiable, since the ends would be a world without ruling classes and pure freedom. Which of course doesn't work too well irl.

I was thinking about that earlier. Is the avatar's life his or her own, or does he or she have a higher duty to keep the world in balance.

An example - say Korra's in a more vicious time. The four peoples of the world are fighting, even the air nomads are forming a front. The young, foolhardy avatar decides to join a fight and becomes crippled. She loses her legs or becomes paralyzed some other way. Say, for the sake of argument, the avatar cannot learn how to become mobile (using water or metal or whatever for legs).
Does the avatar have a duty to try to end her life so that avatar spirit is reincarnated in a vessel that can actually do something? If the paralyzed avatar doesn't, the world might face a world in chaos for another 100 years without a capable avatar. If she does, then the world only faces 15-20 years without a capable avatar.

I think it was more surprising because let's be honest, it probably hasn't happened since the avatars. I mean look at how surprised we were, and not many of us recalled it has happened before so imagine something that happened hundreds of years ago from Avatars you'd have to find books about. Yeah there's an argument on circumstance that's believable in this show. Not many would stay to try and fight lava, not to mention not many would attempt to make lava out of earth when it requires innate talent that not everybody has. We already know metal bending only occurs for a few, so I can only imagine lava bending being just as special if not more.

it wasn't that the mercury itself was special in inducing the avatar state, it's more like that's the poison itself they decided to go with since they could bend it. Any other poison could be counted as water and has a chance of having an antidote, so I guess they went with mercury because it'd require a highly skilled metal bender to remove it and put it in. Only reason she survived is because the avatar state kept her alive for so long

That's the thing about assumptions we guessed wrong. The styles of fire and earth bending are similar but you wouldn't be able to control two elements at once with just the maneuvers of earth bending. It'd be interesting if the Avatar could mix the two styles of martial arts bending into a synchronized one to control two elements at once, but all we've seen is Aang doing the ball of air with the spinning elements as the closest thing.

I think Mercury is the idea poison here. There are still very few metal benders, and even fewer who could extract the poison from her body without causing even more damage. A water based poison might (might) be easier to extract. In general though, I doubt the poision itself was special.
