Im a C-Sticker, but you're not making the C-Stickers look that much better with a post like this reeking of a feeling of superiority
Hey, I remember what it was like before learning advanced play. I'm just saying there's an knowledge gap and people aren't going to understand you if advanced techniques are at the heart of your arguments. I have a casual friend who insists that shorthopping is a glitch. 0% chance he knows you can do two Marth Fairs in one shorthop.

Just so I understand, what are the strict advantages of C-sticking?

I always assumed it's a much quicker input method, not sure if there's anything else.

It also lets you maintain your current flight path by allowing you to do a specific aerial attack without touching the control stick, which would change your momentum.

Allows you to use an aerial without influencing your aerial movement. Godsend for Wario and Jigglypuff.

O:

... I only got a wiimote compatible with brawl right now, what elite advanced tricks can I pull off with that?

Using the shield is cheap.

A friend of mine told me he heard someone actually make that argument. Don't know if I even believe him lol. But if people get upset about C-stick, wavedashing, and edgehogging, I guess there might as well not be limits.

Well..

I promise I will stop overhyping Triple Deluxe for a while after this post, but yes. If you've ever enjoyed Kirby games or if you've ever felt that they were too slow and at times boring, Triple Deluxe is the game for you. Kirby has a bunch of incredible varied and versatile abilities, bosses are all over the place and go crazy at times, it hits just the right notes with story and there's a slew of content to work through once you've finished the main game.

It's my ideal Kirby experience.

that's me! will check out, thanks

The Masked Man

Finished playing Mother 3 for the first time last night and OH MAN am I all over the Masked Man appearing now. The gun, the sword, the PK blasts...
imagine him with an unmasked Claus alt!
At this point I'm just hoping he shows up as an Assist Trophy or, hell, even as a Trophy. With so many "Lucas is cut!" rumors swirling though that's starting to look doubtful.

Such an amazing game oh my god wow. And like 95% of it didn't even get a mention in Brawl. Unjust!

So I finished up Kriby's Dreamland 2 for the first time this morning and have now moved onto Dreamland 3.
Where the heck is the campaign of Coo for smash? people were trumpeting some generic waddle dee with new hat and a yarn outline prince robbed of his own game by Kirby himself as the next in line when Coo the parasol wielding god exists, he who scatter shots wings of death, craps lightning down upon foes (thanks to Kirby but shush) and makes Rick the Hamster look like a useless burden by comparison.

b4TiPnd.jpg

Look at Kirby's fearful expression, he's witnessing Coo's mighty power first hand and regrets ever bestowing upon his friend the parasol of power knowing that at any time Coo could usurp the main character role and solo the game all by himself.
But Coo would never do that, he's too great a pal, he's the best pal.

If Brawl is anything to go by, it seems that it'll be credits for the original composers and copyright information (though the button is specifically labelled "Credit").

so uh mystery solved i guess
Oh yeah, I do remember that little feature.

There's a lot of inputs where you need control of the left analog stick independent of the C-Stick. The most common one is probably using the C-Stick for aerial attacks while the left analog stick controls aerial movement. In Melee, you can cancel a run into a crouch by holding down on the analog stick, and then use the C-Stick to do a sliding Down Smash (using the C-Stick alone would result in a dash attack).

I'm more interested in the benefits of tap jumping. I always have to turn it off to pull off up-tilt. Why should I want tap jump?

My man

Coo is easily the best Kirby companion. Scratch that, best Kirby character. Dream Land 2 was all the better because of him. I find my lack of enjoyment from playing other Kirby games in comparison come from the lack of Coo.

That said, I think I should go beat Triple Deluxe.

The only thing I used it for was for pillaring with Falco in Melee. This means hitting an opponent with your reflector, jumping out of it after the first frame (I think), then doing a Dair to spike them back into the stage. Then repeat as many times as you can.

If you don't jump out on the right frame, Falco just sits on the ground in his reflector. It's much easier to jump on the right frame if you hit up with the analog stick than hitting the jump button.

Isn't it also useful for out-of-shield options? I saw someone mention once that it was better to leave it on so you could up-b and up-smash OoS, but since I've been good enough to do those I haven't tried turning it off.

I use it to get out of shine faster too. It also makes it tons easier to double laser with Fox (though in PM it might be easy enough to do with a button, idk).

I always assumed it's a much quicker input method, not sure if there's anything else.

Like others said, it is good for maintaining movement with the control stick while simultaneously inputting attacks of various directions. Also, I like C-stick especially for uair without accidental double jump inputs and dair attacks without accidental fast fall inputs.

On the ground, it allows you to do the quickest released smash attack. If you do a smash by pressing direction + A button, the A button press and release may register as a few charging frames (and make the smash come out a little later).

Right?! He's a fucking badass and I would love him in.

I have no idea. I was gonna suggest that DACUS might be possible, but according to Google it might just not be. The only thing I really saw was to maybe switch the A button from taunt to jump. <.<

XD wow, I can't even...

I also recently bought Kirby: Triple Deluxe based on you guys recommending and praising it. It's climbing the ranks of being my favorite Kirby game (Super Star being 1st)! Can't wait to get to the end of the game, 'cuz that music sounds gorgeous :O
I live this game glad you like it!

Yeah, that's right. My understanding is that all but Yoshi can do that.

But I'm not that advanced and never do much out-of-shield. I play really aggressively and don't worry much about defensive options.

the replies in that thread are amazing

Hey, that's me! :)

But C-Stickers are inherently superior by the fact that they actually have better tools at their disposal than people who don't C-Stick. There's every reason to mock people who don't want to use it for "honour" or whatever.
No, it's that his post first assumes that all casual players are non c-stickers (definitely not true) and vice versa (ore likely to be true, but still), then goes on to say that casual players are stupid in general and you can't really explain things to them

You can't use competitive jargon around people who have never heard of it before. It's not about anyone's intelligence.

In the year 2044, after nuclear war has caused a race of alien beings to enslave humanity for our own good, and all major cities have been converted to large mining colonies where humans are forced to work 20 hours a day, whoever lost a thirty-year avatar bet will quietly steal away to mindmeld with the internet matrix and change their avatar on neogaf.com. A silent tear rolls down their face before our alien overlords discover them.

I guess I haven't made it to the level of play yet. Or maybe I just work my way around by not using those techniques very effectively but make up for it somewhere else. My Fox and Falco are definitely mediocre, so that might explain it.

I guess it's hard to find use for certain advanced techniques when you don't have friends that can play at your level...not to say I play like a God, but my friends don't really stand a chance (which is why we all main random).

Wow, I haven't posted in forever. Not that I ever stopped lurking long enough to establish a presence in the past anyway. This thread's just moving a mile a minute anymore.

For the record, the C-stick can also charge smash attacks in Smash 4, so this point is really true going forward. Regardless, everything else there is more than enough reason to use the C-stick.

A. GAF wont be around in 30 years
B. The loser will have probably retired or have been banned from GAF by then if GAF still exists in 30 years

I'll take a 60 year avatar bet on this (which means it can only happen 30 years from when the avatar bet punishment begins)

This way I can finally change my avatar back to a Chibiterasu with 100+ symbols all over the avatar in my hundreds and then die in peace

I didn't learn this stuff until years after I became interested in competitive play. It takes a lot of practice and I'm still no good at Fox techniques. A lot of advanced techniques are easier in Project M because you can set the input buffer, which extends the window of time you have to "hit the right button." I usually set it to 3 frames, and it makes things a lot easier.

If you live near a college town, you should be able to find a bunch of people around your skill level. Check Facebook groups and Smashboards for the communities in your area.

Actually, I think that gives you a lot of good opportunities to practice these things in a relaxed environment. Once you're comfortable with the basics of the game, look for other small things you can implement into your game. You'll mess it up all the time at first, but it's still important (imo) to go for stuff like that in actual matches. That's how you level up. And that can add another layer of fun to the match for you; if you already know you're going to win, your primary goal can shift from styling on your friends to implementing new strategies and maneuvers.

30 Year avatar bets.

Thirty U.S years.

Jedi and Sah fighting the good fight I see.

Umm... Are there different years used across the globe? Apart from North Korea or small, indigenous tribes?

Kinda serious question; this may be something I should know =/

And the gatekeeper to the internet matrix's mindmeld hub should be none other than a slightly radioactive and mutated chihuahua presiding in a discarded bag of cheetos which on first appearance can be confused for simple litter.

Upon asking the ChiGuarda for entrance to the mindmeld lair, one receives the response: "Crr..uuu..nn..cchyy ...... Puffffssssss ..... orrr .... flllaaa.....mmiiinnnnggg.... hooott?.... Chooooooose..... wisssssssssse....llyyyyyy."

PROTIP: The only proper answer is Flaming Hot

What's funny about this is I live on a college campus. The thing is, it's very small (about 2000 people), and Smash is not a big part of the community, so it's like there are a bunch of closeted Smash players, but you gotta bait them out. I've found a few recently, one that use to play Melee competitively actually, but yea, it's much harder to find Smashers here than it should be.

This is a good point. Sometimes I try to do this, but they don't like when I try new techniques on them because it's like saying they're not good enough to take seriously lol One of them doesn't even want to play if he thinks I'm not playing seriously, and he's the worst one out of all of us lol you'd think he'd take the time to learn more, but hey, different folks, different strokes I guess.

Well in the Islamic calendars years go by moon sighting, so the years are shorter that way

Even a story in the Qu'ran that gives a certain time allotted in years in both the solar and lunar calander

Dog years works best, only way it might work actually
