oh man i want events back. did they announce something? haven't paid much attention to game modes.

Beating Event 50 was so hype back in the day.

I'm really hoping for something closer to Melee's events than Brawl's.

But honestly, I just want Events to come back. I enjoyed what I played of Brawl's.

A lot more people don't mind the smash ball then I thought (under the conditions that the execution was better). I thought more people would hate it, but I guess I was thinking more about the super competitive scene.

We actually know nothing about Event Matches. Seems like something that ought to return but who knows!
Is it just me, or does this kinda suggest we won't have events in the 3DS version?

It looks like the game modes for the 3DS are known and kinda barebones, but it could also just be that not all the modes are shown.

I'd love to see a Magicant from the first Mother...then we'd finally have stages from all three games in the trilogy!

And I'd love to see TTYD music in Smash.

First, I feel the reasoning behind it is ridiculous. The fact that a developer would spend time and energy into his game to create an artificial skill ceiling is appalling.

The reasoning behind the Smash Ball is repulsive.

???????????????????????????????????

lol

To be fair, a lot of the weaker FSs are being replaced and modified. Lucario's completely ineffective Aura Storm (Which I once got five times in a row in a four fighter battle without scoring a single KO), for example, was replaced by a mega transformation.

I've seen (and have used it) to KO many times.

I was looking at the list of composers... Is Shogo Sakai really missing? It seems very weird, since he wrote Melee's OST and wrote tracks for Brawl. I wonder if they didn't list all composers yet.

And DK still has his useless bongos. Your point?

Well the list is just for the 3DS version so he may have only written music for the Wii U version.

That caught my eye as well especially since he was the music director for Brawl. Bear in mind they only announced composers for the 3DS version, so maybe he's being saved for the Wii U

On top of mainly just being normal matches with specific characters, the difficulty select killed a lot of the sense of progression with it. It felt like you were doing a lot more with Melee's Event Matches because of that, plus even on higher difficulties it just seems like they were easier in general.

I still have nightmares of Pikachu and Pichu, but nothing in Brawl really stands out.

I'm guessing the latter, because otherwise it would be an extremely barebones entry, especially if you're believing the leak as it stands.

Apparently Nintendo released an OoT remix album all the way back in 1999 (there's an article about it on Kotaku). This is a crazy good remix of Hyrule Field, and it would be great for a Wii U Zelda Stage. Seriously, listen to it.

Considering the amount of official arranged albums put out for the series represented in Smash Bros, there was even less of an excuse to fill Brawl with music taken directly from the original games. Along with that OoT album and Hyrule Symphony, the F-Zero jazz and 'guitar arrange' albums come to mind, as do some of the arranged Fire Emblem themes, parts of the Mario & Zelda Big Band albums and Famicom 20th Anniversary arrangements, all of which could have been used over some of the direct rips.

I've never heard that Fzero Jazz.
It's amazing.

I shit you not, I like playing Smash Bros with a keyboard.

WASD - Left analog
Thinkpad tracknub - C Stick
Spacebar - Shield
K - Attack
J - Special
Semi Colon - Jump
I - Grab
U - Up on C-Stick (makes UpAir easier)

LAWD! I tried playing Smash flash with keyboard, its not that bad but I didn't have a comfortable way to set the C stick ( Dat Nub powa). I've also tried smash on a fightstick, again it's also not bad but no C stick.

There is challenges and games menu.
Right, but I assumed that would just be the achievement wall like in Air Ride, Brawl, and Uprising. Do we know anything about it?

Yeah, that was kinda my feeling about it too. Still, Smash Run has been hyped up a lot. I'd miss the events, but I could imagine them taking a break. If nothing else there are probably unlockable modes too though, in the vein of All Star or Boss Battles.

If you think about it, Smash Run is kind of a fusion of adventure, vs. and event match. Start off running around a giant field on your own, killing enemies and finding secrets strewn about. Come together at the end to compete against each other in a special battle or side event.

It's not a very good replacement for any of those (except maybe adventure mode), but it's a neat melding of a few ideas from them.

Well, the bongos have actually been made a little better from my experience, but still... yeah. :P

All they did to it was show when you're actually supposed to hit the A button with the little beat meter above his head. The range on it hasn't changed and neither has its knockback.

In other words, it's still a terrible Final Smash but at least it was addressed in some minor way unlike some other Final Smashes...

I should clarify that I like playing the official games with a keyboard, not Smash Flash. Smash Flash has wonky game feel.

I hope Smash Run is as fully-featured as Air Ride's City Trial, if not more so. So, like, custom rules, lots of interesting mid-game events, a ton of different and varied match types (which can also be played on their own), that sort of thing.

Maybe we just haven't seen many of them yet, but the only match types that really stand out to me thus far are the racing ones. Hopefully the majority aren't "battle with such and such modifier" because that would kinda get old.

Conceptually and audio-wise I have no issues with his final smash.

But it must be the worst final smash in all of brawl.

Second worst is lucario, only because it's ok on SOME stages. On the stages where it's bad, it is THE worst final smash, simply because it can be dodged with 100% accuracy.

Final Smashes are wildly unbalanced, not only between characters but also between stages (e.g., Luigi's ranges from useless to a near-guaranteed KO of everyone on the screen depending on the size of the stage,) and Smash Balls do appear a bit too frequently, but I like the chaos they create. The mad scramble when it appears, the salt when you smack it three times and then it sails over to someone else who breaks it with the weakest little attack - that's what I love most about Smash. I can forgive a little unbalance in the name of chaos, although FSs are a little too unbalanced.

I dunno, Kirby's is pretty awful; you can literally air dodge out of it. At least DeDeDe's can sometimes push you off the edge and get you stuck with no hope of recovery. Sometimes.

And that's not even including Nintendo's greatest mix album.

Was it mentioned it looks like the Landmaster (Fox's) has actually been buffed? It can now shoot while flying.

It matches up with the games more now but lol, I don't think it needed that buff.

I think that title belongs to Peach actually...

I think Dedede's final smash is the only one where I can legitimately say that with the element of surprise on my side & fighting against people who ae just miserably bad at smash ... it's still useless as all hell.

Kirby, Lucario and even Peach can be argued to have some level of utility when people don't know what to expect.

The only reason I even go after the smash ball with dedede is usually because otherwise the other person gets a free KO, not because I actually care. I quite literally do more effective damage normally than I do with the FS activated.

I always wanted Bowser's final smash to be the Koopa Clown Car and was very disappointed to see that he still had Giga Bowser, but now I'm happy because we know that the Koopa Clown Car was simply being used by someone else.
