Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XIII: Leak Dynasty

There is no such thing as character slots in fighting games. Either that character was going to make it or he wasn't. End of story.

Dr. Mario wouldn't be the reason Ridley doesn't make it.

What I'm wondering is, if Alph is an alt of Olimar, they didn't just try to modify Alph to be a clone. Replace Purple Pikmin with Rock Pikmin (that are just slightly different stats than Purple Pikmin). Remove White Pikmin from his moveset, and make some other minor changes.

Just if they wanted to beef up the roster even more.

Yeah Alph makes perfect sense to be in as a clone.

I mean c'mon is someone like Lucas can make it onto the roster, Alph can be in as a tweaked Olimar.

Huh, that's a pretty good argument.

It bothered me at first, but it's not that weird considering we already have two Zelda's and Samus's on the roster.

And 2 links....sorta.
You know, Dr. Mario's possible inclusion really bothered me until I saw this; I just really didn't like the idea of two characters that are the same person being in different slots. Didn't even occur to me we already have that with Zelda and Samus! Doesn't bother me anymore, though he could still just be an alt.

Let me just say thatnthis leak is what I love about Gaf and the Smash community in general. When the game is out I'll need each one of you to teach me how to play because man, I suck at Smah. Also, I'm completely drunk. Thank God you won't see my POTD.

The original text leak from this current leak said Alph was an alt costume for Olimar and occupied 4 of Olimar's 8 costume slots.

It just seems like every other character swapping alt costume became a clone, except Alph. Other than Bowser Jr.

The reactions were beautiful. And remember, SkullHydra asked for it.
Man, you can't pin that all on me! I told Oric to do it, not you. =P

Still nothing regarding the leak? We aren't going to get anything until the game comes out, are we?

I need Sakurai to randomly announce a newcomer before midnight.

To be fair, aren't Alph and Olimar essentially exactly the same in the games?

Also, why does Sakurai hate rock Pikmin?

But it's not like Dr. Mario actually took the place of other characters. And this

The thing is though is that he takes significantly less work than any other character. After what Sakurai said about Lucina, Doc getting in isn't all that surprising.

I'm pretty sure he didn't take anyone else's spot and was added just for the sake of more characters and variety. (If you will.)

Other clone characters, I mean. Depending on how different the doc is
if this is real
- it makes me wonder if the time spent on him would have been enough time to put in Lucas or Wolf- which are actual standalone characters from their series with clone like moves.

If it's more or less a model swap with a handful of minor things changed, fine. Lucas and Wolf would have taken longer because their standard moves are diff. But if their standards are diff, and they're more Brawl clone than Melee...it bugs me they got in over Lucas/Wolf.

I'm pretty much fine with Dr. Mario on the roster again. Probably Melee nostalgia talking there but whatever, if he plays like he did in Melee I'd be happy.

Dark Pit on the other hand is just Pit dressed in black. It's literally taking a color scheme and making a spot for it (even if he was an original character from the origin game). Hopefully he plays somewhat differently from Pit, but if the changes only go as far as Lucina does from Marth, it would just be a disappointment and a waste. I agree with Troubled Bat that I'd rather have Medusa as a Palutena clone if only for visual and character diversity, if we need a Kid Icarus clone character.

Their inclusions don't really bother me in the end though. I won't be actively against Dark Pit's inclusion.

The irony is if Doc Mario is in as many of us expect he'll probably get more play then actual Mario simply due to having the tornado as his down b instead of the fluud

Doc is a vet. He should be given preference over new clones, just as Falco, Ganon and Toon Link had been.

Honestly, I probably would have agreed with you before playing Uprising, but have the character and his backstory in my mind makes him at least somewhat appealing. Not that he's some amazing character, but at least when I see him I can attribute a different character to him then when I play Pit.

I'm fine with Doc, even if he is a 100% clone. I just hope he has his melee moveset.

Hire Masahiro Sakurai.

He will do a better job at creating a Smash Bros clone,
by adding tripping.

Well, lets not forget the properties of his attacks.

Smash 4 Mario seems to be able combo and get moves out really quickly. If Doc doesn't have that then he'll probably less valuable than Mario even with the tornado.

Lucina is in over Roy.

Sakurai doesn't care about vet status confirmed.

Why is Dr. Mario in over Squirtle and Ivysaur? Too many Pocket Monsters?

Doc is a vet. He should be given preference over new clones, just as Falco, Ganon and Toon Link had been.

None of those guys are alts though. Toon Link in some ways mirrors what Luigi is to Mario now as far as moveset differences from Link.

Eh... that's a bit of an exaggeration, especially considering Doc has 2 specials that are different from Mario (and a down air) and Toon Link has 1(?) air attack that's different and that's it really (besides stat changes). Toon Link is more like Young Link than Luigi. Doc is probably further removed from Mario than TL is from Link

Luigi has pretty much an entirely unique move set besides 2 of his specials.

In Melee, Mario was actually a better combo character with safer moves, but he has trouble KOing. On the hand Doc is better at controlling the pace and gaining momentum while having better KO options thanks to his overall strength, but his moves have more lag iirc and have less range. (FSmash anyway)

Argh. I'm at a wedding where I don't know anyone and am thus very bored, and all I can do is keep refreshing this thread and hoping some random leak update happens. :(

I was at one in July with my wife which was extremely boring and hot. Was reading GAF the whole time while she chatted with old friends lol. Smash for 3DS would have helped that day.

Dr. Mario only has one special that is different than Mario assuming his specials go unchanged and they don't give him a FLUDD clone (lol). TL has some different aerials and entirely different animations from Link. Not denying the similarities and obviously he is closer to YL, but they did a better job at making him feel even more separate in Brawl.

Having the same FS was really lame though.

IIRC Dr. Mario did not really have that many moveset differences. The properties of his moves were different though. If he is in this, I guess they'll do even more to give him his own identity.

Yeah, I expect a similar trade off here if he's in. Although Mario in this game looks really good at KOing.

At least Link's and Peach's are creative and visually interesting. The Zero Laser is just a big laser.

Though it looks much better in Smash 4, and at least it doesn't suck morph balls like the Mario Finale.

They should have made it the rainbow beam or the one you use to fight Metroid Prime.

Oh wait, this thread has a few dozen more pages than when I last looked at this tab...
