Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XIII: Leak Dynasty

Between the Gematsu leak (which has still gotten 9 of 11 characters correct), the Sneaky Spirit enemy, and Sakurai’s love for music in general, I’m genuinely surprised there isn’t a Rhythm Heaven character or at the very least a stage. There have been three installments since Brawl’s planning period plus an arcade port — it’s a fairly major new Nintendo IP. I’m sincerely hoping we haven’t seen the full cast.

This is the most shocking part of the leak to me. I thought rhythm heaven was a lock for representation.

I see no real excuse for why Sakurai didn't just remove the AI player and let them be an alt. I suppose maybe Sakurai doesn't perceive any value in just one Ice Climber?

Considering how many games Nintendo releases and how this is pretty much the only time we've had an ESRB, I'd say he doesn't have much excuse. Sure there's demand, but literally everyone else managed to resist and avoided leaking things.

My point is that dialogue like "he got what he deserved" and other comments to that effect weren't happening (that is, the respective future tense versions of that were not said). People were happy and excited and chatting up a storm about the new content.

What's the deal with that? I saw someone mention an All-Stars image?

I don't care how we get the Ice Climbers, they just need to be in the game.

One of the 4chan leakers claimed Dixie, Mewtwo, and Chorus were in while MFL claimed another five including Ridley and Impa were in. During MFL's last claim he also said he made up the DLC list.

Also MasterLink said he made up the DLC list to catch fake leakers or something.

It's a mess.

There is a theory that because All-Stars is locked there may be more characters as well.

The writing was really on the wall for Dark Pit. The appearance in Palutena's trailer, and then this...

I have a source that has just informed me that Nintendo have identified the leaker. He has been fired and is being sued. He does not work at ESRB itself. He was an employee of NoA, who was sending materials to the ESRB. This is a completely internal leak.

The leaker, despite having been fired, still has a copy of the Smash Bros 3DS game in his possession; as well as one of the 3DS systems used for internal ratings. Nintendo has yet to seize these from him. It's a copy of the final build of the game.

If there is more to be unlocked in the game, such as new characters, it is possible we'll see more from him (if he still cares to share it); given that he still has it.

I like your simple avatar and I'm glad the guy is getting sued, like come on, why leak out all the hard work Sakurai has put into this!

Man if I had this info and a job at Nintendo, I would be so tight lipped it wouldn't even be funny. Especially if you have a family to support.
Tell me about it. I mean having to keep the fact Tingle makes a return in the Wii U Zelda title a secret for who knows how long is getting harder by the day.

The part of the leak I dislike the most is how we're all robbed of reaction posts and threads for the remaining newcomer trailers. We're all worse off for that, and it was only three weeks too.

We're still gonna get neat high quality CG trailers for newcomers (unless Sakurai gets salty about the leaks). We'll also get details on how the characters actually play. Also, other new game features and mechanics!

I mean, yeah, it sucks that some of the surprise is taken away, but there's still so much to reveal!

The leaker deserved to get in trouble. Yet, how many people were actively feeling this way, as opposed to chomping at the bit for more and more leaks? While he is in control of his own actions, the only reason people are tempted to leak information is because people like us demand it constantly.
I can't pretend I've not enjoyed today. The leaks are exciting, and I love it. I appreciate that this guy wanted to throw us a bone.

But at the same time though, I fully believe he deserves the consequences. If someone doesn't have the integrity and sense to respect the NDA he signed... well obviously they shouldn't be trusted with much of anything, at least for a while. I hope he doesn't get sued into oblivion... but it does also need to be clear to other employees that this kind of violation is a serious issue.

We would have all had the same excitement in a few weeks anyway. And the information was even already out there, just not in visual form.

Me and my buddy are already planning a Male Wii Fit Trainer / Duck Hunt Dog team called Man's Best Friend; you bitches better be ready to get rocked online.

EDIT: Haha, why this one for top of the page...

Confusing.

I still don't know that the deal is with this All-Star image perhaps hinting at more characters. What's the deal with that?

The impact will be negligible. They have budgets set aside for marketing, regardless of whether or not it is positively received. The game's sales are what matter in the long run, and this game will be huge.

And sure, if you base your morality on technical contracts produced by giant corporations and signed by force (coercion by threatening job security and legal action IS force), he deserves it. But if you're a human being capable of empathy, he doesn't!
Why are we claiming whether a breach of contract of trade secrets is moral or not?

Your world sounds horrible, no offense. It's good that we get this kind of escalating information, especially from Nintendo. The last thing any of us should want is to have all the cards laid out creating this unrealistic expectation and then being disappointed when things aren't quite as they seem. If we had all the characters told to us, but then they had to be cut for any reason at all, do you think that the outrage of that would be worth the trade?

I liked the mystery and speculation that we've had. I liked being surprised at just how some later characters were revealed and what they could do, and how our expectations were not always what we thought they were. I liked being introduced to a concept and going from 'what the f**k is this?' to 'Why did I not know I wanted this?!'. What you want is to rip out that speculation and excitement and then you expect the anticipation and hype to hold out from reveal to release?

nonono you'd still get speculation and excitement, you'd just know who the character's are. For example let's say smash 4 is actually the first smash game. the E3 where smash is announced they show us Pika, Mario, DK, and Link. Later on(after the press conference) they'd just release some info saying the other characters. They wouldn't tell you how they worked or show you them, just give you name drops. TO ME this is the best way. I understand that many of you like the thrill of guessing and speculating what characters are in the game but all I'm saying is that I'm simply not a fan of that, never was and likely never will.

also offense not taken, these are just opinions, its alright :)

So...is Bowser Jr. a diddy clone? it sure looks like it to me.

Tongue = Tail

Recovery is very similar

The charge and fire on what I presume to be his neutral B is the same as charging diddy's peanut shooter

I didn't see it myself, but didn't someone also say he dropped little robo koopalings...like Diddy drops bananas. I smell clone.

Pretty much this. I also feel bad for Sakurai, as information should have been revealed on his terms. He doesn't owe us the info at a set time and, as he's the one putting all the hard work into this, should've been allowed to hype as he sees fit. Not saying the leaker is a bad person, but it's shame Sakurai's surprises are being ruined. No more shockers like the Robin trailer.

All Star mode remains unlocked until every last character is unlocked, because that mode is about ALL the stars fighting it out. So since the screen cap showed the locked icon on All Stars mode, that means that the entire roster has not yet been unlocked, meaning we've yet to see some newcomers/returning veterans. :)

Yeah, I think it's safe to say that if all of the info on the game were revealed the day the game was shown, people would get excited for like a week and then forget about it until the game comes out. The way it is now keeps the hype going almost the entire time. I love it.

Until it turns to anti-hype

which is inevitable

But that roster image in the initial leak is real then, right?

That would indicate more characters IMO, because why would the bottom look so sloppy otherwise?

Yeah, the roster is pretty much real. And it is weird, especially since Shulk could be one row above, and they'd have a clean row below for third-party.
