Help me Ridley-Wan-Konibly.

You're my only hope.

Trying to catch up since I've been out of the house all day.

Are we coming to the conclusion that it's possible all the characters weren't unlocked? I see the DLC thing is confirmed fake.

Just coming to grips with no Lucas...funny enough, I was starting to use Ice Climbers a lot more recently when I played too. Apparently whoever I main gets cut the next game.
And then comes back the next- LUCAS IN SMASH 5!
All-Stars was locked, indicating there are more characters still to be revealed. (Plus, the blank spaces on the roster screen.)

As for DLC, we have no idea if we're getting any, or who they might be.

Just checking in... looks like we still don't have any more knowledge on who, if anyone is left in the roster. I'm starting to wonder if maybe this really is it... if so, I feel even worse for Sakurai and co. :(

Alright guys, obviously anything could change, but if this is indeed our final list of newcomers:

How do you feel Smash 4 did with it's newcomer selection? I made this picture so you try and think of the newcomers as a whole, not just the ones leaked.

Me personally? A few missed opportunities aside, fucking stoked. 15 new fighters is nothing to scoff regardless of clones, and you could even bump that number to 17 if you count the Mii Fighter as 3 different characters.

Fucking stoked here too. Fifteen/seventeen newcomers is a ton, and it's easily (EASILY) the best lineup of newcomers in any new Smash game. Before anything was revealed, my most-wanted characters were Mega Man, Rosalina, and Palutena, and I got them all and then some (plus other newcomers I didn't even know I wanted, like Pac-Man, Shulk, the Mii Fighters, Dark Pit, and even Bowser Jr. after seeing how he plays).

It's just a fantastic roster overall. If this is it I'll be sad we didn't get Dixie and the Chorus Kids, but to be honest I didn't even want the Chorus Kids until Gematsu made me believe a Rhythm Heaven rep had a legitimate shot, so as much as I'll miss the Chorus Kids, I can't complain too much. And sure, I wanted Krystal to be in, but I knew from the beginning she never had a real shot, so whatever. Besides, for me Mega Man alone counts as having like five of my dream characters come true, so I'm just really happy.

Don't care at all about Ridley or K. Rool and I'm mostly ambivalent toward Mewtwo, so I won't miss them. For me the only REAL blemishes on the roster are Dr. Mario (he was always kinda lame and he could easily have been a costume + alt specials, and he got to come back before Mewtwo?!) and Ice Climbers + Lucas being cut (I won't miss Wolf or Snake, personally).

But yeah, overall? Really damn happy. I have very, very little to complain about if this is the final roster. :)

I'm pretty damn happy with the roster, but my top picks throughout the game's development consisted of Ray MK II, Travis Touchdown, Rocket Slime, Chibi Robo, Mewtwo, N, Ridley, and King K. Rool, so I'll be a bit bummed if, when all this is said and done, not one will have gotten in. But it's looking like that might be the case right now.

I can honestly say that Ganondorf being decloned would have pissed me off more than any cut ever could lol.

I want King K. Rool in ;_;

newcomers are fine although greninja, bowser jr, dark pit, pac-man, and two awakening reps are kind of a let down. I'd trade all of them for Simon to be honest. The rest are great though.

I really wanted king K Rool and after going through anger, denial and now acceptance I'm hyped for bowser jr.
The real question is once smash 4 (wii u or 3ds) drops how many of you are dropping project m?

I'm surprised with where the roster went. I thought my own personal list of newcomers was rather reserved/realistic but only some of the obvious ones made it into the game like Mega Man, Palutena, and Little Mac. Odd how what was a "dream" character for me like Lucina managed to get in the game, but what I thought was a sure bet (Toad, Dixie, Mewtwo) got completely ignored.

Not really.

But from what we did see, he looks mostly the same.

It kinda depends on how the game around him has changed, but most likely he'll still be bad.

So, yes.
Good thing we got Dark Pit instead of fixing one of the main characters in Zelda :/

Can we discuss in a rational way why the "Wars" series representation in Smash? I like the series a lot, though I wouldn't say that I'm a super fan or antyhing. There are several other personal picks I would take before a Wars rep, but the lack of any real representation by that series is completely baffling to me.

The series spans 26 years, 12 games, 8 systems, and all regions have seen releases. The franchise has several very recognizable characters, is visually distinct, yet meshes with the Smash style, and has ample room for creative movesets.

Why, in your opinions, is the series getting passed over again? I'm not asking this as a rhetorical question - a lot of you often have great insight into this kind of stuff. I mean I LOVE rhythm heaven, probably more than the Wars series, but the inclusion of a rep from that before Wars is just... wat

Going into Smash 4 Robin, Palutena and Lucina were among my most wanted list.

Rosalina, Wii Fit, and Duck Hunt Dog are all characters I never knew I wanted.

Pac-Man and Megaman are awesome.

I never expected Shulk, but I wanted him the moment I realized it was a possibility.

Everyone else ranges from fine to cool on my list. This might be my favorite set of smash newcomers ever actually. The only thing that would make it better for me would be new Metroid and DK reps.

I agree. So sad. That moveset fits an F-zero character or mach rider much better.

They didn't even give him a better dashing and running animation. He still runs like a complete joke character would. It's offensive (to me, at least). He should have a run more akin to Mewtwo where he just hovers low to the ground... would suit his character way more.

Also, it's more proof that the guy was just ported over from Brawl than anything major being done to him. Lame as hell. I bet his Up Tilt is still the same horrible "hold my leg up for 10 secs. and never hit anything" move lol.

Why do people go against Dark Pit when we have Doctor Mario, Toon Link and Lucina?

Heck, maybe his moveset will be more different than his counterpart's compared to those.

Good question, aside from the duck hunt dog, Wars hasn't seen a game since the DS and correct me if I'm wrong, but it apparently got met with mixed reviews.
I still love the game and series to death. Please make a 3DS version!

Yeah. That's been me with a lot of the villains. I wanted Bowser Jr. a little bit, but more as a Sunshine rep than as an NSMB rep, which is what he largely reps now. Still, he looks fun to play as. I just wish we'd get someone evil again. We got 3 evil ass characters in Melee, got 1 in Brawl with Wolf (MK, Wario, and Dedede just ain't evil enough) and also lost Mewtwo, and now we're just getting a lacky, an anti-hero, and losing Wolf. I mean, shit, let me play as someone who killed another character's mom, someone who regularly attempts to cause an ape to starve to death, or someone who accidentally kills children while driving because he was too busy looking at his hair.
As for Project M, I won't be dropping it, since it looks like it'll have its own characters soon.

  • Xenoblade sounds like the kind of game I'd totally be all over if I were still in high school. Don't really care much for the franchise except the music, so Shulk getting in is a good choice if only for Yoko Shimomura.
  • Pac-Man needed to be a representative after Mega Man and Sonic were confirmed. He just needed.
  • Bowser Jr. is poop but if you can choose the other Koopalings as alts then I'm cool with it.
  • Wii Fit Trainer befuddled me at first, but I warmed up to the character very quickly.
  • Don't like Animal Crossing, don't like Villager. Meh.
  • Mega Man. FUCK YES MEGA MAN.
  • Rosalina was my choice for best new Mario representative, and I'm glad she got in even if I find puppeteer characters like her difficult to control and not fun.
  • Palutena was my go to choice when Smash 4 got announced. She's great.
  • Little Mac was exciting. I loved Punch-Out Wii.
  • No comment on Duck Hunt Dog until I see how it plays.
  • Lucina is mah waifu (after Anna and Tiki) in Awakening.
  • Greninja is the best starter Pokémon since the original three, so I'm glad he got in.
  • I hated the idea of the Miis in Smash when I thought they would pull moves from Wii Play and the like. Sakurai did something actually cool with them so I'm dying to try them out now.
  • Robin was the character I always wanted but that I never knew I wanted. Female Robin for canon plz.
  • I loved Kid Icarus Uprising, but Pit's playstyle in Brawl never clicked with me. I want to see how Dark Pit differentiates from that before making a judgment.

I give it a B+.

Japan probably doesn't care about it, and IS doesn't want anything to do with it since the Advance series wasn't a big hit (in Japan) and DoR bombed (so badly that they had to cancel the initial JP release for it and then, years later, release it as a CN reward)

I would like for there to be more new characters, but I'm really happy with the selection we got. The only ones that I'm not really hyped for are Palutena and Rosalina and even they might turn out to be cool. I love all the others though.

Good variety.

I know. As a humongous zelda fan it still hurts :/ A quick, last-minute decision for melee has clinged to him this whole time :(

He's not ganondorf, to me. He's some weird smash bros character that most people don't like. He might as well be on polygon team or something.

And now I want a shirtless Shulk alt.

Great.

At one point when I got the swimsuit in Xenoblade, I tested it out on different characters, and at the time it gave Reyn the best stats. So for a while I had him running around Bionis shirtless. I felt a bit bad whenever it started to rain. I'd like all of Shulk's teammates to be a part of Shulk's Final Smash, in a coordinated Chain Attack Final Smash.

Can someone do me a solid and elaborate on the All Star stuff? Do we know that the roster is incomplete or not?

Here's what we know.

1: The roster, as shown, has theoretical space for 5 more characters.

2: In another part of the video, All-Star mode is displayed with a lock icon on it, as if it cannot be accessed yet.

3: All the footage appears to be from the same 3DS unit and save file, as the ESRB0083 username is present constantly.

This is not confirmation that more characters remain, but it is circumstancial evidence that indicates it might be the case.

If I had to guess, the final smash will have something to do with the Bionis.

Duck Hunt Dog threw a wrench in all of my predictions. XD

After the first several character reveals were coming in I thought the game's newcomer list would be almost exclusively that of newly relevant (Little Mac, Palutena) or up and coming (Wii Fit Trainer, Robin, Shulk) Nintendo characters.

I'm legitimately surprised there is no Chorus Men because of that.

The issue I had with bowser Jr was he was my most wanted character and when the leak showed he was in a Kart I was like "... why samurai" but after seeing him in motion he is crazy. I agree on the villains, its sort of sad they only have like 8 of em but I can sort of see why they didn't put king K rool, he hasn't been important in a long time.

Yeah... I can't complain about that interpretation. :P

The roster is also in a kinda strange order, which could indicate there's more to come.

But I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst.

Bio
Ganondorf, known as the Great King of Evil or the Dark Lord, is the primary antagonist of a majority of the games in the Legend of Zelda series. Ganondorf was born a member of the Gerudo; as the only male member to be born in a hundred years, Ganondorf is made either the King of the Gerudo or the Guardian of the Desert, depending on the game. Gifted with powerful magic, Ganondorf often seeks the omniscient Triforce to grant his wish of conquering the entire world. He frequently wields the Triforce of Power, and stages coups against the Royal Family of Hyrule to take the Hyrulean Throne by force. In the English-localized game manual of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, his full name is stated to be Ganondorf Dragmire, and his alias before his incursion into the Sacred Realm is stated to have been Mandrag Ganon, meaning "Ganon of the Enchanted Thieves."

The Triforce of Power that Ganondorf often holds grants him near-immortality; the only weapons that can truly defeat him are the Master Sword, Silver Arrows, and Light Arrows. In addition to granting him power, the Triforce of Power allows Ganondorf to transform into his more powerful beast form, Ganon, reminiscent of a pig or hog. During events of the ending of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the timeline of The Legend of Zelda series is severed into three separate timelines. Thus the Ganondorf from Ocarina of Time has three different future incarnations, each eventually meeting their end at the hands of different Links, leaving uncertain futures for each Ganondorf. In addition to the character from Ocarina of Time and his three parallel future selves, Ganondorf or his monstrous Ganon form appear several more times throughout the series. It is not confirmed which if any of these incarnations are connected to the previous being, and the Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures is given a different backstory, leading to the idea that there may be multiple Ganondorfs, much like many other characters in the Legend of Zelda series who have multiple incarnations.

What NeoGAF Says
“A power hitter that can destroy people in an instant. Also Warlock Punch.” -SenorArdilla

“No one man can have all that power. neutral A great for trolling. Really good for zero to deathing.” - Tomohawk

“Ganondorf has always been alluring, but Sakurai has been content keeping him a clone. His heavy hitting style makes him a must pick, but please, Sakurai, give him a sword!” -atr0cious

“He... Coveted that wind, I suppose.” -InvincibleAgent
