Did Wario's classic alt ever get a trophy in Brawl? If not I don't think there's really a precedent to go off whether alts will just have collectible trophies or if you'll have to do something specific with the character they're tied to.

Plus why else would Larry be in Bowser Jr.'s clown car when he's never been in it in any actual Mario games?

Wario's classic alt did, in fact, not have a trophy, however, it's also not a different character, so...

Completely OT, but I finally saw Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday and now I love all of these gifs way more than before! haha

Now back on topic...uhh, Wii U stage? and a site update to 3DS stages 2 is what I'm calling.

Series 1 of Amiibo is 14 characters. Is it safe to assume that there will be 4 series of Smash Amiibo? 14(4) = 56, which is around the ballpark of how many playable characters Smash 4 is going to have.

Yeah, I wonder if I should aim for more niche Amiibos like ROB and Mr. Game & Watch, since they'll probably be harder to find later on than popular ones like Mario and Link.

Just speculation based on the assumption that they'll make more of the popular characters.

Gah, I was planning on just get the wiiu version but if that 3ds homebrew region-unlocking is figured out I'm gonna be real tempted to import a japanese copy.

My import of Xenoblade was stuck in customs for two weeks. Seems like a gamble to import.

But I totally wouldn't be able to resist. Some people can't be helped, I suppose.

We typically have 2-3 trophies per character; do you really think that we will have 16-24 trophies for Jr.?
My point was more alts will probably just be collectible trophies like it seems like what is happening in that screenshot rather than having to replay classic/adventure/all-star mode as every single alternate version of a character.

i feel like the only reason i would buy amiibos is just for display. so i probably wont ge......

who am i kidding, i'll end up buying some.

You guys think Duck Hunt Dog will have Nintendogs as his Classic Mode Home Stage?

Is anyone else hoping for the Koopalings alts the announcer changes the name of the character when you win instead of just saying Bowser Jr.?

Maybe he'll just call them "Koopalings"?

Alright guys, obviously anything could change, but if this is indeed our final list of newcomers:

How do you feel Smash 4 did with it's newcomer selection? I made this picture so you try and think of the newcomers as a whole, not just the ones leaked.

Overall, I love it!
  • Shulk - Unfortunately, I've never played Xenoblade, so Shulk doesn't really do much for me. That said, it could work out that playing as him in Smash will inspire me to check out the original game, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
  • Pac-Man - My brother and I have a slightly irrational hatred of Pac-Man (we were probably scarred by Pac-Man Fever...), but I applaud Sakurai for taking a character I dreaded from seeing in Smash and turning him into a clever celebration of retro gaming.
  • Bowser Jr. - Another one of those "oh, no" characters, I was pleasantly surprised by the ingenious way in which Sakurai designed Bowser Jr. as a fighter. The Koopa Clown Car is a brilliant homage to both SMW and NSMB, and I'm really looking forward to checking him out!
  • Wii Fit Trainer - Easily the biggest surprise of E3 2013 for me. I would have never dreamt I would see her in Smash, but she makes the transition almost too smoothly. Aesthetically speaking, I'm not crazy about her design, but I'll definitely be testing her out.
  • Villager - I always thought an AC rep would be an ideal candidate for a character, and I had all but given up hope when Sakurai said AC was "not suitable for Smash", but lo and behold! Every aspect of the character is just oozing with charm, and I love how Villager is the perfect embodiment of everything AC. Really excited to try him out!
  • Mega Man - Honestly, I'm just surprised it took this long to see the Blue Bomber in Smash, haha. It's so great to see how his moveset draws from bosses throughout the series, and his design being based off of his original NES look is icing on the cake. Looks to be a lot of fun to play as well!
  • Rosalina & Luma - As a character, I think the puppet setup is a stroke of genius. What a clever way to devise her moveset while remaining faithful to the feel of the original character! I think her playstyle will take some getting used to, but I consider that steep learning curve a welcome challenge.
  • Palutena - MY GODDESS HATH RETURNED! Seriously, the original (fake) leak had me so pumped, and the real character definitely delivers. I'm thrilled to see one of my favorite games get more representation, and I love how her moveset includes just about every powerup from the game. Really excited to play as her!
  • Little Mac - My love <3 Seriously, I've been pushing for this guy to join the fray for years now, so his reveal was probably the most satisfying of all for me. He plays just like I imagined he would, and his model looks so great. AND THE PINK SWEATSUIT! I can't express enough just how thrilled I am to have Little Mac in Smash. He is my Smash 4/5 bae <3 <3 <3
  • Duck Hunt - I've always hoped to see the dog make it into Smash in some form, and I'm thrilled that dream is finally becoming a reality. The mere possibility of him playing like some sort of Banjo-Kazooie pair character has be quivering in anticipation. Plus, the design is absolutely adorable! Really pumped to take this guy for a test drive--er, test walk?
  • Lucina - I was upset to see Sakurai defending a clone so adamantly, but after playing FE:A, I understand all the hype. As a character, I think she's great, but I'm admittedly a little disappointed to see that she's so similar to Marth. I'll withhold passing judgment until I get my hands on the game, though.
  • Greninja - As a member of #TeamChespin for life, I was initially hesitant to latch onto the shinobi frog, but I've developed a newfound appreciation for this little amphibian. He's a lot of fun to play as, and I agree that he is truly an ideal representative for the 6th Generation of Pokemon. I'll definitely be using him a lot!
  • Mii Fighters - I've never been crazy about the way Miis look--they're a little uncanny (in the unpleasant/creepy sense), but after seeing gameplay clips and considering the exciting possibilities afforded by custom avatars, I've warmed up to the idea of including these guys in Smash. Plus, their movesets look to be quite creative and fun to use.
  • Robin - One word: incredible. I had never even touched a Fire Emblem game before this summer, but one look at his reveal trailer was all it took because I immediately hopped onto Amazon and ordered a copy of FE:A. The game itself did not disappoint and even served to increase my hype for this guy. I always thought a mage character would be a cool addition, and Robin is nothing short of brilliant. Really excited to try him out!
  • Dark Pit - It's funny: despite being a huge KI:U fan, Dark Pit still doesn't quite sit well with me. The problem is that there are so many brilliant characters in the game that it feels like a bit of a copout to include a clone character instead of someone like Viridi or Phosphora. Perhaps he will play differently enough that he will be able to justify his own inclusion, but I'm not holding my breath.

I still think were getting the vets back....just not all of them on 3DS.
I still maintain they'll try and get the far larger 3DS audience to get the Wii U version as well by making some extra characters who were completed thanks to the extra dev-time on the Wii U version free DLC for the 3DS version only if you own both.

How many amiibos I get depends a lot on how they look when they start going through mass production.

When machines start painting them, they're inevitably going to look worse, the question is just how much worse.

Mr. Game and Watch's amiibo will be pretty interesting if they stay true to his 2-D design

I don't know much about how toys are manufactured. Were the ones at E3 just hand-painted prototypes?

As far as Amiibos go, I'll probably buy two or three. I couldn't honestly buy something like any Fire Emblem or Zelda character without feeling like a stupid nerd, but I'd be totally down for one of the Pokemon or ROB. Other options include Olimar, Game and Watch, Duck Hunt, Doc, and the Chorus Kids if we ever get them.

That's only 3 of them! Don't be silly, you can't keep yourself to that

All of these screens make me even more interested to see what Sakurai does for PotD. There are weeks' worth of PotD material in there, from spectator mode to new trophies and beyond.
I love how the trophy descriptions seem way less stiff and fairly joke-y this time around. Guessing Sakurai's decision to let the localizers have a lot more freedom in how they translated Uprising extended to SSB4?

also are they alluding to candy kong having an affair with funky kong in that bio

Oh wait, I'd probably want the Duck Hunt Amiibo, as well

Welp, now I'm over the $200 mark, I'm out of control, someone call Dr. Phil

I went and finally beat Xenoblade today, as I figured today was a fitting day to do so. It was fantastic. I'm glad Shulk is on the roster.

I still don't know for sure which Amiibo I'll get, and how many will be dependent on their cost, but I think I can manage at least 3 for now so my top three are Palutena, Robin, and Sheik.

After that there'll be some combination of Samus, Zero Suit Samus, Mega Man, Lucina, Ganondorf, and Zelda.
