Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XIII: Leak Dynasty

The addition of more females was nice, but villains really got the short end of the stick this time around. K. Rool, Ridley, and Mewtwo would have filled this void quite nicely. :/

Returning Villains:
Bowser
Ganondorf

New Villains:
Bowser Jr.

Antiheroes:
Wario
King Dedede
Meta Knight

New Antiheroes
Dark Pit

Cut:
Wolf

You know I wonder if Wario is an unlockable this time around. It seemed to me that the leaker just used Wario's trophy image and stuck it into the CSS.

I mean, if Bowser Jr. gets away with hovering...
He actually walks with the propellers, but you could have Prime just dangle her tentacles to the ground. Think Mewtwo's running animation.
I'd say the floatiness would be a problem, but the Clown Car seems to work well enough. Also, I can't help but imagine an entrance animation where it unfurls from its awesomely unsettling dormant face form and sheds its exoskeleton.
"Hiyah Samus! Hyuck hyuck hyuck!"

Seriously, that face looks silly. :-P

That would be cool. I guess it would work like Tabuu's red rings attack?

Like that, or if an FS that engulfs the whole screen is deemed too OP, then make it like Triple Deluxe where it has a cone of effect.

Mike would be awful if he couldn't use it three times. Might as well just whip out Crash.

There's no reason he couldn't use it three times. Either give three charges which have to be used in fairly quick succession before they disappear, or make the FS a "three-combo," where each blast triggers automatically.

Crash would accomplish the same thing, but I prefer Mike for purely aesthetic reasons. It's way cuter.

Mewtwo is not a villain and I still think it probably is in the game btw.

I'm not terribly versed in Pokemon lore post-Gold/Silver (I've played all the main series games since then but not watched the anime/movies) but I seem to have memory of Mewtwo being the closest to a villain as far as the actual Pokemon themselves.

He's not really a villain, but in Red/Blue he was kind of seen as the final boss/opposition to the player.

As someone who primarily picks villains, I feel the shortage.

Though if Ridley is in, I'll be really satisfied. That's a pretty major addition, and he would have a badass playstyle I bet.

Actually, I would be happy with Ridley as a Charizard clone.

Mewtwo is not a villain and I still think it probably is in the game btw.

Technically, but Sakurai certainly gave him the appearance of a villain in Smash with his evil laughter. Plus most people probably think of his Movie 1 appearance, where he was basically the villain up till the end. So, for most people he "counts".

Pokemon pretty much universally shys away from Pokemon as the villains, it's always a human who is controlling them or, in the case of Mewtwo, made them into a monster. Darkrai in Mysterious Dungeon is the only evil Pokemon I can think of who is pure evil.

My stance on newcomers:

Shulk - Meh as meh can get
Bowser Jr - Hype because he seems very unique and the clown car is an awesome idea
Greninja - Seems alright, ninja like, so sure
Mega Man - Seems pretty weak to me, not a fan of his play style
Little Mac - Motherfucking hype for this badass lil' dude
Rosalina - Couldn't really care for her
Wii Fit Trainer - Looks to be fun, very surprising indeed too! :D
Mii Fighters - Pretty much a useless addition since they can't be used online, cool idea otherwise
Palutena - Hype for the goddess <3
Lucina - Marth clone, so she's in my good books
Robin - Hype hype hype, THURON
Pac-Man - Didn't really care for him at first but he's grown on me
Dark Pit - No idea yet, could either be good, or clone worthy
Duck Hunt Dog - Not an idea i'd ever of considered, a bit random for a dog with zero moves at all, but we'll see how that pans out
Villager - Animal Crossing hype and pocket is a good move

So far, i'm content with newcomers, but Lil Mac and Robin top it for me.

It basically hasn't changed, he just isn't quite as important to the newer games. I'm not sure if he or Zygarde were supposed to be more final in XY, but he was still an end game enemy. He looks a lot less angry post RBY though lol.

In Melee he was treated as a villain, having an evil laugh and being included in Event 50.

I'm playing throught it now, and I don't see why everyone complains about the story. Only upto 2-2 but the story seems just fine, actually it seems even more varied and unique due to the worlds.

The battle system on the other hand...yeah...how can you even call it a RPG when there is no grinding to level up your character. Disgusting.

Yeah, the fact that battles are ultimately pointless is a huge, HUGE design flaw...

...but other than that I had no issues with the game. It was alright. It was also pretty good looking, and had some nice music.

I thought it was pretty charming, yeah. The turn-based system takes some getting used to since there's no leveling up, but there is kind of a traditional RPG system involved with collecting the best stickers and doing the sticker sidequests. Also, the OST is amazing.

Random idea that popped into my head: instead of Cook or Sword, Kirby's FS should be Mike Kirby. It's unique (unlike Sword,) and it works kind of like an FS in the Kirby games, wrecking everyone on the screen.

That'd be neat. I'd love to see Magician or Animal Kirby, especially.

Genuine question

Why does it matter whether a character is a hero or a villain? What does it change with regard to the gameplay?

Do you similarly bemoan the number of Street Fighter characters that don't have evil motivations?

Except for Bowser Jr(who I am pumped for) my list is probably the opposite of yours. Shulk looks like a lot of fun to me, as does Mega Man, and Greninja.

I doubt Sakurai thinks of characters in terms of heroes and villains.

Well, I think this is partially true. Sakurai-developed Kirby has a pretty unique take on "villains". I mean, look at DeDeDe. I consider him a "villain", yet he's fairly complex compared to Bowser and Ganondorf in that he fluctuates in his villainy. Same with Meta Knight, who doesn't really side into either group.

I sort of see the villains appearing in Smash as Sakurai showing their more noble sides, where they fight honorably against their foes. Ultimately, they're not pure evil in his view, like the other characters they're simply written as one way, and Smash allows players to use the characters in ways that go against their "canon" personalities. In some battles, Link is the villain and Ganondorf is the hero, for example.

I agree, we got new female reps and I like it. It'll be vilains's turn next time.

Aw yiss. Set ya clocks to 2020 guys because if there is another smash brothers you might get some new villain characters, exciting times ahead.

It hurts this list that ganondorf is a clone as well despite being such an iconic nintendo character. Some of the other ones in this list barely even feel like villains as well. It's why i'm still bitterly disappointed that skull kid/majora didn't get in. He's such a unique and awesome villain and he would have been perfect.

I main Samus because I love Metroid and her design. She also plays wonderfully. So a guy who wants to play as a villain is probably more interested in that kind of characters, maybe he finds K Rool, Ridley and Wolf more interesting. Foes tend to be fascinating. Nothing strange.

So I'm not sure who you're addressing this question to, but I'll go ahead and jump in with my own potentially irrelevant thoughts on the matter.

I just think Nintendo has a lot of interesting antagonists that could be featured but have been overlooked. Ridley and K Rool are good examples - there aren't any villains from Donkey Kong or Metroid in the game. No F-Zero villains, if Wolf is cut there are no Star Fox villains, no Fire Emblem villains, et cetera. It's cool that they include villains in anyway, like Pokey in Smash Run back in Brawl, or the Chimera appearing in New Pork City, but it'd be fun to play as someone bad, too, just because they're cool characters.

So, am I correct in my assessment of these leaks in that we know a good majority of the characters, but there are still a handful of them left that we do NOT know about? Assuming this is the case, then how do we know for sure who has and hasn't been cut? How do we know who has and hasn't been added, as well? There's a lot of people jumping the gun in this thread, but it sounds like there's still plenty of surprises left for us. I'm also inclined to not believe any lists of cut characters without any solid proof, so maybe we should all just calm down and wait the three weeks or so until we know for certain what the situation is.

I still believe Mewtwo and Ice Climbers will be in the roster, and I haven't seen anything solid to suggest otherwise.

Is it bad that I'm hoping against the odds that Wolf is either still in or gets added as DLC? He and Snake were two of my three mains in Brawl. I still got Ike, at least.

Technically Mario would qualify as such. :p

What I meant by saying Sakurai doesn't see characters in terms of heroes and villains, is that he doesn't feel compelled to meet a "villain quota" by adding more villains. Just like he doesn't feel the need to meet any sort of quota for Pokémon types.

There were past rumor of characters getting cut, mainly from the Gematsu leak.
And we really don't know if it's the final roster but the All-Star mode being locked means there was till secret characters.
But if it's really a ESRB video then it's just multiple video together so that wouldn't mean anything.

For me, it's less about whether the character is a hero or villain and more about wanting to play as popular characters that aren't normally playable.

Villains just tend to fall into that category for obvious reasons.

The smart thing is to believe only what is in screenshot /video form and ignore everything else. For now the most likely scenario is that we already know the full roster for the 3DS. There isn't any guarantee of DLC.
