Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

You know what's nowhere near this list? Kid Icarus. For any Dark Pit fans there's no real argument that he has earned the right to be in Smash. Love the roster but I'm still really annoyed by the shaft given to DK, Metroid, and Zelda.

Metroid - NES
Metroid II: Return of Samus - GB
Super Metroid - SNES
Metroid Prime - GC
Metroid Fusion - GBA
Metroid: Zero Mission - GBA
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - GC
Metroid Prime Pinball - DS
Metroid Prime: Hunters - DS
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - Wii
Metroid Prime Trilogy - Wii
Metroid: Other M - Wii

Kid Icarus - NES
Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters - GB
Kid Icarus: Uprising - 3DS

I'm fairly certain KI is all million-selling games, so is it really fair to say that KI doesn't deserve three characters when its lacking sales figures have nothing to do with poor success, and everything to do with Nintendo's lack of interest for three generations? Talk about Metroid skipping the N64 era, Kid Icarus skipped most of the Super NES, the N64, the GameCube, and the Wii eras!

Have you played Sanctuary Fortress yet? The boss of Sanctuary Fortress is the best boss in the history of video games.

Apparently not or I'd probably remember him, I've gotten into the dark/light stuff not even that deep. The last boss I fought I was in a safe area and had to shoot out of it. It was just one of those bug things. I think it gave me something for my morphball, been a while.

We don't but they keep hyping Smash Run and it would be mega disappointing if it don't have 35 achievements on its own.

Getting out of my doom-and-gloom mode over this, if there is a separate screen I assume it'll have more than 35. There's a bit of a ray of hope shining in for me to feel that we might get many hundreds of challenges, and that Smash Run and Vs. mode are overflowing with them, but I'm not entirely able to be that optimistic.

For scale, I was more optimistic about that Wolf/IC/Lucas/Marshal text leak than I am about the Challenges in this game being fun. :v

You don't really get to judge who 'deserves' a slot. Let's not ignore the fact that in one game Kid Icarus Uprising introduced more interesting characters in one game than Metroid has in 27 years.

It's easy to get bogged down with the dark world stuff, but there's some really cool lore and story if you go forward. Get some vitamin D, caffeine, and nachos and bust it out. That Sanctuary Fortress boss is awesome.

Sure, if you count DK's entire 30 year history. But if you compare since 2002 (Metroid Fusion/Prime) things are a lot different. For the most part it's been a few poor selling spin-offs, and in fact the best selling DK games outside of Returns were the GBA re-releases of the original DKC games. DK's a more storied IP that Nintendo owes a lot to, and it was once pretty massive, but if we're talking modern times it's really not a major IP franchise anymore. Returns sold a shit-ton, sure, more than the Prime games combined, but given TF's sales it's almost certainly an anomaly rather than a return to form.

It's rather the console it's on that is an anomaly. Returns 3D still sold a lot for an inferior port, in fact, about as much as Corruption, if not more. And let's not even start with Other M.

Let's keep in mind that KI has only had one game in the last decade, and that game was only on handheld. Sakurai probably wants to give more representation to characters that have appeared on both handheld and console.

I think I'm a little more optimistic than this. I fully expect Challenges to be fun.
But I think they'll probably underwhelm compared to what I was hoping for.

Wrong place to ask, but was that pokemon announcement just nothing? I cant find that thread anywhere.
It was Pokemon Tekken for arcades. Whether or not that's nothing depends on your personal taste.
It's nothing. We've known about it forever anyway so I don't get they hype. Plus, Pokemon that aren't my favs in a gameplay I've never liked

I really gotta crack down and do that. Bothers me that I haven't ever finished it.

Well I guess one of the Kirby's will be green. Final one could be anyone's guess. Maybe an alt like Yarn Kirby or Prince Fluff.

As for Metaknight, one alt idea:

Even if Zero Suit Samus plays completely different, she's still just Samus in different clothes. She's the only Metroid character since Smash 64, it doesn't help with the variety and doesn't really represent a series with great bosses and villains.

Besides the obvious one, even Metroid Prime as described yesterday could work as a very cool original character.

We didn't know about it forever. There was speculation based on trademarks, but no actual knowledge.

Yeah I was here for that insanity. The way you worded it seemed like Dr and the others showed up again somewhere.

Oh, sorry. Yeah, I was just pointing out that because I've been seeing people here and there talk about how we've only seen Bowser Jr. and Shulk, and that the other characters could have been faked.

It wasn't even people wanting or expecting that it was fake, usually it was just people who were worried that it might be since those characters hadn't shown up yet.

I'm pretty confident everything we saw in those screens is real, more than enough proof. Hell, the one part of the screenshot leak we were sure was fake ended up being real.

As far as DHD, I dont think anyone has anything to worry about.

Speculation which was right though. By this point them going 'Pokemon Teken!' Just made me go like 'uh, yeah, duh'. Honestly, It would've only been a surprise if the announcement was 'Pokken is not Pokemon Teken'

I can't even remember what I thought about Space Jam. As a Brit I wasn't really into Michael Jordan or basketball so that whole element was lost. Having seen it in the cinema my parents were with me so I'm sure they were bored as well.

Anyway....

Pic of the day. A panel in the Challenges area will unlock everytime you clear a challenge. When you unlock a panel, you'll see hints for unlocking panels directly adjacent to it on all sides. And this time, each panel will unlock pictures related to the challenge. This is tougher than it looks, you know? The challenges in the 3DS version are a little on the easy side, but the Wii U version challenges might be a bit trickier.

Smash 3DS made for casual players confirmed! :P I wonder how easy 3DS is.
