Project CARS PS4 Gameplay - Direct Feed HD 1080 Capture.

I can't watch youtube now, does it look as good as Forza 5?

WTF?!

Ok, that sounds reassuring. Its not good that you're turned off, but its good that people might be turned off, because that means its challenging like it should be.

Exactly my point. Real simulation heavy. Not for me, but that doesn't mean its bad at all.

Were you expecting anything different?

According to the details, it has also been confirmed that each drivable car in the console versions of the game has about 60,000 polygons. On the other hand, cars in the PC version of the game running on Ultra high settings feature polygons between 200,000 to 300,000, and the number comes down to 60,000 when the game is running on high settings.

On topic : this PS4 footage indeed looks a few notches below the PC version at max settings but that was a foregone conclusion considering the gulf in class between a PS4 and a high-end PC.

Probably a dumb question, but, is this really going to be called "Project Cars"? Or is that a working title?

Not really into sim racing games so this isn't for me but it looks nice IMO.

It's not really a sim racer.. Compared Assetto Corsa (another pc sim). Project Cars is closer to Grid than anything.

I think looks decent. I'll probably pick it up, because of my love for racers.

This game doesn't look like anything to write home about, at all. I'm starting to realize why 95% of the conversation around this game has always revolved around the graphics. And while those might be astounding on PC (although it's looking like weak art direction might be putting up a fight against showing off how good the graphics are), they don't look like they'll stand out much with PS4 tech.

I'll stick with Drive Club for my sim racing.

The Crew for life though :)

I hope they clean it up before release. The game has some really impressive graphics on PC, but this version looks like it needs polish. The shadows in the cockpit were pretty low res and the mirrors were blurry (and had a low draw distance behind the vehicle). I'm not impressed.

A year ago, I might have agreed with you (although even back then, comparing it to Grid would be exaggerating). This is simply not the case today. It has become a solid sim.

They came up with a solution yesterday actually... It's called a new $800+ wheel.

Ouch. Does it support the old CSR pedals and shifter? if so I could maybe upgrade my wheel.

After a bit of looking, does someone have a link? I found nothing on their site.

:)

Back to the AC comparison, as someone who owns both and plays regularly with both wheel (G27) and a gamepad I genuinely don't understand all the love for AC? For me, certainly in the road cars like the BMW, it feels so wallowy, like the springs have been removed and replaced with blocks of marshmallow?!

It's a new CSW Wheel base so yeah it supports all the old accessories and even the old rims. However, you need a special "PS4" rim to play on PS4 and a special "XB1" rim to play on XB1...

I hated the focus effect from the shift series, hopefully it can be turned off.

You can turn it off by simply cycling the camera preset. You have normal "in cockpit" camera that does not uses any DOF effect or movement of the head, and then "in helmet" can that is more atmospheric.

Hmmm.... I was planning to upgrade to one of those bases eventually. Guess it will just have to be a bit sooner. Glad I can continue to use my clubsport pedals/shifter.

That looks great, and I actually really liked the commentary. Why is rain hitting inside the visor? I think that effect is a little...I don't know if it's overdone or underdone. The water droplets look too big and too crisp considering the dept-of-field effects they're using for the near-and-far scenery. Just strange looking the more I re-watch in full-res.

It does but you do realise it will be fixed right?! This is a game being built, there are plenty of bugs that are being ironed out on a day to day basis.

Does that mean don't observe and comment about what we see in promotional videos? They just said an effect looked dumb, full stop.

Man i want to buy this game and support the devs i just don't have the time to play it with everything so damn packed this holiday :(
Also while watching the video i couldn't help but think how amazing is GT6 on 7 years old hardware with 10x less power i mean PD managed to make a game that look graphically close to the new-gen sim racers Forza 5/Pcars i just can't wait to see GT7 on PS4 i know a lot of people are amazed by DriveClub visuals i have a feeling PD will trample that with GT7 and @60fps

Your absolutely right its just sad to see people write stuff off so quickly (and i'm talking generally in this thread not that particular quote). Regardless if you like the genre or even the game PCars as an idea is something all gamers should get behind.

Lets face it sim racing is a niche genre but what pcars proves is that developers can go to the community and get backing for niche projects rather than having to rely on AAA publishers to provide the cash. Gaf is full of peeps with niche interests, this may prove that there are ways to get these things off of the ground, things that AAA pubs won't take the risk on.

Is your concern that there aren't any "AAA" level driving sims? I mean, I love these games, but you sound concerned about a problem I'm not familiar with. Brilliantly developed racing sims from small teams are the norm on PC, on every scale, and some best-in-class console sims are present on most systems. I'm happy to see more, but you were objecting to someone's honest, accurate criticism about the game here. That felt misguided.

Disgusting. Driveclub remains the best looking racer ever made.

Keep your fanboyism to yourself, that's disgusting.

I'll stick with Drive Club for my sim racing.

Thanks for the laugh.

On topic, this is the only racer from this year on my radar now, the rest are either focusing on things that I don't care much about or are on other platforms.

It's not exclusive, is the impression I'm getting.

Edit: Exactly, not worthy unsheathing your sword for something that will come to all platforms.

What I don't understand is that I tought that the low poligonal count of the cars was a trade off for the presence of a high number of cars on the circuit (up to like 50 on pc?), but here there are just 10 cars: can somebody confirm me that there gonna be race with far more car even on ps4?

I guess my feeling stems back from when SMS released shift 2, there was so much right about that game but it had been so gimped by EA's meddling I just struggled to enjoy it. The PCars model just seems such a great way for devs and niche communities to work together and build the products they both want.

Look everyone is entitled to an opinion, do I wish everyone wasn't always as negative? a bit but thats the internet! I guess just having been so close to the development of this one I feel a touch more protective :)

Meh, I am just not very excited for this anymore. I'll be busy with Forza Horizon 2 and will also have Driveclub to look forward to because I am about to get a PS4. That is enough driving for me.

I can't seem to find a reason why I'd choose this over Forza or Gran Turismo.
Well its apparently more of a proper sim than those games. That would be the very obvious difference here.

I'm not sure a lot of people realize what this game actually is. They just see 'another racing game'. Its actually going to be one of the first 'PC-style' racing sims for a console. First quality one, at least.

Eh... I think it looks fantastic. It's 60fps and it has more emphasis on physics. Plus Morpheus support. Can't wait till I can try it with Morpheus.

Looks weak. Tremendously weak. Forza 5 looks better. NFS Shift did the focus shifting perspective better. I assume it must play like a dream and that's why it's so popular?

This game will finish 4th in sales if it indeed comes out this fall (between racers).
