Everyone's hype levels go into the sky
"I have some news today for you all about Super Smash Brothers for 3DS"
Hype goes into orbit
"We will be delaying the games until March of 2015"

Could you imagine though.
I'm figuring it will probably be related to Smash release, maybe some information on a celebration somewhere or launch party what have you. Maybe some bonuses or other information about that.

Other than that, I can't really see it being anything significant because of the no-other countries announced.

Maybe Japanese eshop update or something?
Actually, was the MK8 DLC announced for Japan yet? In our hype, I only saw people posting about UK and US release...could this be for that?

Zero Escape 3 and Ghost Trick 2 being funded by Nintendo because they are cool.

We're still waiting for Seaman 3DS. Wii U's been hogging all the 3rd party Nintendo pickups recently (Lego City, Bayo 2, Fatal Frame, Devil's Third).

Nothing:
  • Kirby Triple Deluxe
  • Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright
  • Mario Golf: World Tour
  • Super Smash Bros.
  • Bravely Default
  • Professor Layton and the Aslant Legacy
  • Pokémon Omega Rubin / Alpha Sapphyr
  • Tomodachi Life
  • Pokémon Link Battle
  • Chibi-Robo Photo Finder
  • Steel Diver: Sub Wars
  • Rusy Real Deal Baseball

None of those bar Tomodachi Life are developed by EAD.

The direct page didn't mention something like "upcoming games for this fall", it only said "information about 3DS software". And it's Japan only, also pre-TGS, reminds me of this conference.

Yeah it's not going to be that epic.

It was. Third party support was good but if you have a 3ds for great first party games there is nothing to play this year

What 3rd Party games? Last thing I bought was Layton vs. AA at the beginning of the year and the only other title I will get for the rest of the year is the late SMT4 localisation in EU. It was pretty empty all around, they dropped the ball on 3DS big time. Just because we might just get a Wii U year that isn't completely terrible in 2015, 3DS feels like it's lost the second half of it's generation, which is ridiculous. Even more so compared to the original DS, obviously.
Although, I still have somewhat of an hope that there will be a final 3DS push. Although it would require quite a bit of luck, next year for the west might have Monster Hunter 4, FF Explorers, Ace Ancestorney, P. Steam, PKMN XY2 or Z, maybe that hinted at Zelda project and a couple of surprises...

None of those bar Tomodachi Life are developed by EAD.

Tomodachi was developed by SPD, not EAD. Same building, different departments. EDIT: Beaten.

Rough guide off the top of my head to save face:
EAD: Mario Kart, Nintendogs, Wii Fit, Pikmin, Wii Sports, Nintendo Land, NSMB, Star Fox, Splatoon, Mario Maker, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Wii Music, etc (Steel Diver is worked on by EAD staff too, but seems mostly developed by Vitei Inc)
SPD: Tomodachi Collection, Brain Training, Metroid, Rhythm Heaven, Rusty's Real Deal Baseball, collaboration with external 1st and 3rd party studios.
Tokyo EAD: 3D Mario, Captain Toad, Lourve Guide, Photos Together apps, Flip Note, NES Remix

First party doesn't mean internally developed. Pretty sure everything there is first party except for the two Layton games.

Layton is published by Nintendo in the West, right? Kind of borderline to call it a Nintendo title.

I think this could be a delay announcement -- push it back a few weeks to coincide with the North American date. It might give them just enough time to polish a few things. I hope this isn't the case, but if this ends up being a Japan-only direct it really wouldn't shock me.

Unfortunately, after the very good period around E3, it seems that Nintendo did a couple of step backwards in terms of communications (and contents, maybe). FatalFrame5 and Pokken Japan and Arcade-only announcement are a jumpo backwards, to me, especially if they are actually planning to bring those game to Wii U in the West.
This Japan-only Direct, it's the third misstep to me. Very sad.
Btw, I'm expectin 2
DS
things ;p

Fatal Frame 5 announcement was made together with the comic and movie announcement. In short, the news bundle is geared towards the general media, so it is understandable to not announce it at the Direct.

While pokken is an arcade title. Both these 2 cases are really just anomaly cases.

People seem to be conflating different 1st/3rd party things. In general I think there are 4 distinct categories for this stuff though.

1. 3rd party games that Nintendo picks up for overseas publishing. These are 100% 3rd party owned and produced and aren't necessarily exclusive either. Good examples of these would be the Professor Layton series, Samurai Warriors 3 or Bravely Default.

2. 3rd party games produced by Nintendo. These games are 3rd party made and owned but Nintendo funds development/publishes and they're locked down exclusives. Examples of these would be Glory of Heracles, the Fatal Frame series or Bayonetta 2.

3. 3rd party collaborations. These games are usually IP crossovers with a variety of funding and publishing arrangements, and they're locked down exclusives. Examples of these would be the Mario & Sonic series, Pokkén or Hyrule Warriors.

4. 3rd party contracted games. These are 3rd party made games Nintendo funds, publishes and holds all rights to. They can be original IPs or using an already established Nintendo IP. Examples of these would be The Wonderful 101, Spirit Camera or F-Zero GX.

Yeah, we call them "2nd party". None of those categories are allowed to appear on another console unless Nintendo allows.

The 1st most certainly are and have before (Samurai Warriors 3Z, Ninja Gaiden 3RE, etc). Nintendo has no control over that really.

2nd party is a meaningless term that has no clear definition. I believe it was coined by Nintendo PR to explain the special relationship with Rare back in the mid 1990s when they were making DKC and KI.

Getting anxious at the lack of NoA/NoE Direct announcement...

Lol what is this Nintendo Americo thing you guys keep mentioning?.
A Twitter account called @nintendoamerico said a few days ago that a Direct was coming Friday. Some fell for it, including Yahoo and big dumb dumb BY2K. Ironically one is coming after all.

Maybe Nintendo Americo works for Nintendo of America. HOW ELSE COULD THEY KNOW
Same.

Maybe they'll sneak upload it, rather than stream.
Well, that results in the same issue as a Japan only Direct; probably nothing too exciting for those of us overseas.

Looking less and less likely for us to get one, but I'll hold out hope for a while.

Definitely looking like no western Direct. Damn, I was hoping for some release dates. Bayonetta 2 comes out in 2 months and we still don't have a date for it.

We do need some new 3DS games announced...

Only ones on the horizon is Smash, ORAS, and STEAM, right?

This will yield nothing if it remains a Japan only thing. Seems like the world is due for another major Direct though.
If not, there's at least the Second Quarter Financial Results Briefing for FY 2014 on October 31. I have suggested Nintendo may broadcast a Nintendo Direct around the time of Tokyo Game Show 2014 (September 18-21). Last year they had three Nintendo Direct broadcasts in September, closest one to TGS being for Wii Fit U.

I don't remember if they have had any other events (press conference) around TGS since 2005 when they actually attendeed (to show the Nintendo Revolution controller).

I'd like them to revisit the property, and Golden Sun :)

Both games look good on the DS and were pretty good games overall. I'd definitely like to see 3DS versions.

Pretty sure Paon bought it and Nintendo said they went to Paon who owned the IP or something in the Iwata Asks.

Oh, they may have. It might have been Wikipedia that I read about Nintendo owning the IP, so I don't put a whole lot of stock in it.
