Why would he do that for some characters that didn't make it into the game, and then when it comes to Ridley, one of THE most requested characters, he just teases and strings Ridley supporters along?

Well he never deconfirmed Snake either and we all kinda figured how that's going.

I keep seeing people be like "Sakurai is known for trolling!" but he never did anything other than that Zero Suit Samus thing. Y'all are just convincing yourselves he's teasing things or implying things when he never is.

Doing stuff like going "Waluigi is an assist trophy, he is not playable" is disappointing but it's not some sort of misdirection.

He showed Ridley in the context of being a boss fight, so Ridley is going to be a boss fight. He was teasing Ridley as a boss fight. He wasn't doing some crazy mindgame where he implies Ridley is a boss to throw you off the trail so he can troll you or trick you or something.

Ridley is just going to be a boss, like he has already said.

I think that's the case here as well.

A better example of needless teasing would be Aonuma's comments during fan speculation of Link being a girl in Zelda Wii U.

I've been watching Lowtax play this one recently. It is honestly one of the most bizarre titles I've seen for a while.

I didn't know who Snake was at the time and thought he was from some obscure Gamecube title.

To be fair, Twin Snakes kind of went under my radar, too. I'd totally forgotten it existed until around midway through the Wii's lifespan, when I suddenly remembered it was a thing and went out and got it (for $35 - didn't depreciate in value much, really).

Metal Gear as a whole, though? No, that's never been obscure, at least not since Solid in '98.

This annoys me, Ridley being dead in Fusion/Other M that is, it's dumb. "god of death" my arse, he should be always coming back thanks to his regenerative abilities.

Though apparently Sakamoto sees the clone and the original as one and the same or something, which is also dumb. Damn the japanese and their weird views about what clones are and what a bounty hunter is.

Don't know of it's been brought up, but Cubivore isn't really an Atlus property. It's a sort of Last Story/Pandora's Tower situation where the game was published by Nintendo in Japan and someone else in North America. Same thing happened with Polarium Advance. If Nintendo wants to include a Cubivore trophy or reference in SSB4, they don't have to ask Atlus; they own the property.
