Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Does it really matter? If you fall asleep now, it's almost as if you waited those three hours - except you're not there for the wait :P
I really like seeing stuff live, though. Even though it's a trailer, the anticipation of not knowing is what's most exciting. Though, the fact he didn't say anything on Miiverse makes me doubt it's a newcomer trailer.

Sakurai just retweeted the Japanese Nintendo Direct, so much hype!

Guys stop doing this to yourselves.

They are not unveiling a new fighter because it's always done wifh Wii U footage and it's Japan only. When has a reveal ever been Japan only?

It's likely just for news about modes and stages before it releases.

I hope I'm wrong, but whatever.

Of course the roster could be better, but there's always going to a point where you have to say enough is enough.

If they kept trying to improve it the game would never come out.

However I feel we got a good batch of newcomers who all bring something unique to the table.

SSB4's roster is sort of polarising - it's possibly the best lineup of newcomers in the series, though it's counterbalanced by having the worst array of cuts in the series.

I'm just happy we have a larger roster than most expected. I remember when people were calling mine and other estimations for 48-50 characters blasphemous.

And some of the new comers are really good choices. Sure, some personal favorites not there, but I think anyone who calls it a bad roster are being nitpicky at best.

Using Miis for the mysterious fighting teams this time around? Dear god, what the hell...

The game started off with so much potential.

No direct can fill the music-shaped hole in my heart.

If there really is SSB4 information in the direct, maybe the music will be uploaded afterwards. Ice Climbers and Metal Gear samples appearing beforehand would be a little suspicious otherwise.

Fuck it, I'm going to sleep, but will wake up in 3 hours; one of my favorite things in the world is getting to go back to sleep. :D
Sakurai, you're making me act like a psychopath

Cuts are yet to be 100% confirmed though, so there's still a chance that the rumored cuts will be back. Unless you're referring to Pokemon Trainer
and Snake :p

Uh, I don't see the issue here. It's way better than that alloy crap in Brawl.

I really like the use of Miis for the fighting teams, but I can see how some might think it's less of a 'unique' choice. Though hopefully there are polygon, wireframe and alloy costumes available for the Miis.

I actually feel like the 3DS version is holding the Wii U one back. And after the Wii U one comes out, I feel like I'll barely play the 3DS one. Anyone else feel similarly?

Also have the announced the connectivity between the two versions Iwata promised yet?

What's wrong with the Miis? At least they won't look as generic as the fighting polygon team of the past. And lots of movesets and special attacks to boot.

For some reason I always feel joy whenever I see complaints against Miis.

I guess it's because they are so inoffensive I don't see how anyone could form such negative feelings towards them.

Considering the piss poor stage select as it is, DLC packs of say two new and two old for like £3.99 would be pretty cool.

Or.. We could get characters along with stages.

I will say, the Mario Kart DLC makes me very hopeful we'll get a lot of our cut vets back. Not the ideal situation, but at least there's hope!

I honestly wouldn't want any veterans, just a bunch of new characters. (No clones)

Unless Ice Climbers are truly gone.

I'm assuming the connection has to do with Mii fighters, but they have specified. They have shown the menus though, and they have an icon for connectivity.

Polygons, Wireframes and Alloys were more unique and 'Smash'-y than just using Mii's.

The fact that they're so mind numbingly boring, bland and out of place is why I hate them so much, and they wasted resources making 3 separate characters out of that shit.

Think of it like this: would you rather beat up a ton of wireframes, or do you want to defeat an army of Sarah Palins / whatever person you dislike.

It seems like a clear choice to me.

Not yet, but Sakurai did mention it in the Smash Direct so we know there is something.

They may mention it when they move their attention towards the WiiU version.

It depends on your lifestyle. I can play my 3DS while on commute during work days and going out. Wii U version for when I'm hope after work or when I'm just lazing around the house on weekends.

As for connectivity, there's this button on the 3DS menu. We just don't know how it'll function though.

I want it all, man! My ideal situation, while trying to stay somewhat realistic, would be two packs with four characters each (optimistic, I know) and two new stages. Two newcomers and two veterans per pack. I feel like that's feasible.

But, I agree, I'd rather have brand new characters get priority.

Seeing as I doubt stage DLC would be for both versions, I'd rather see three packs - Wii U stages, 3DS stages and characters for both versions (any DLC characters would be transferred through the 3DS-Wii U communication option, because implementing crossbuy functionality is a little too much to expect from Nintendo.)

But alloys were just lame. Polygons and wireframe felt like "stripped-down" characters in a creepy and cool way. Alloys didn't really look like anything. Miis at least feel thematic even if they aren't as lovable as the wireframes.

You think this is inoffensive?

Very optimistic. Hah. But would be very awesome. I'd honestly expect one newcomer, but if there were clones.. Then 2. Only because it takes a lot more time to create them.

But I wonder what would come to thought for the characters added? Characters of the past, or modern times?

Hmmm. That is very true.. For a second there, I had forgotten that there's different stages with the 3DS/Wii U game.

Fuck it, I'm going to sleep, but will wake up in 3 hours; one of my favorite things in the world is getting to go back to sleep. :D

When I used to have more free time I'd purposely put my alarm early just so I'd wake up, turn it off, and then go back to sleep. I assume it must not be very healthy to interrupt sleep like that constantly though.

I question how they're out of place in a game of puffballs, plumbers, pocket monsters, and Palutena.
