Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

Was not expecting this! I definitely will be upgrading. But why limit the changeable covers to only the new 3DS and not the LL? Why?

Anyone know what was being said during the Smash gameplay where there was a vertical screen split between 3DS XL and the new XL? Wondering about screen quality.

I watched that part again and there isn't a jump in resolution or anything crazy... it seems to have something to do with the slight increase in battery power despite having a more powerful CPU: I believe the screen is automatically changing its brightness in accordance with the lighting conditions (you don't need it to be as bright when played in darker conditions).

time to upgrade once again! I need that second stick in my life

I knew there would be 3DS hw revision sometime this year

The obvious answer is that the new control scheme will be largely ignored except for a few Nintendo games.
Nintendo's first party support for the 3DS already seems inadequate and scattershot. It's hard to imagine a split install base attracting developers, or even benefiting Nintendo.

Nintendo trying to go the Apple route with their naming. It's been about 3 years since I bought my 3DS so I don't mind upgrading. But sucks for the people who just bought one this week.

I'm pretty sure that many people will be bummed out next week when Apple officially announces the iPhone 6. How many people bought an iPhone this week? Or last month, even? This situation cannot be avoided. Not with Nintendo, not with Apple, not with any other company. No one is going to tell the consumers that they should stop buying their products because a new one will come out in the near future. If someone bought their 3DS this week and want to get the New one, they can still return it, I guess. If not, well... it sucks, but that's how the world of consumer electronic works.

The only DSi exclusive games were the eShop titles. The retail titles had exclusive DSi features but would still run on the DS.
Wrong. There were very few but there were a couple retail DSi-only titles:

2015 for Europe?

OG 3DS and CPP for Smash Bros. it is.

If Smash supports the C-Stick and not CPP I'm going to be fucked off.

This isn't the GBA SP. This has enhanced hardware which supports software which will not run on the regular 3DS. That is the fundamental factor to look at.

That's what people said about the DSi. We ended up getting zero significant DSi retail titles, and I doubt the $2-10 DSi ware games were driving hardware sales. No one is abandoning the 45 million current 3DS owners to make slightly better games for a userbase that starts at 0.

This will provide Nintendo with a noticeable immediate bump, and a bit of a long term bump, perhaps halting the decline in 3DS hardware sales for a year or so like the DSi did.

Guess I might finally jump in.

Don't see anything wrong with the nipple - I actually quite liked them on my old ThinkPads!

I went to my store, but they've told me that it doesn't show up in the system so I can't preorder it yet. 10.11 can't come soon enough!

I guess this is similar to how there were GB Colour exclusive games? I guess as long as the messaging is OK. US/UK/EU might get better naming than simply "New".

I really don't understand Nintendo's way of thinking. New Nintendo 3DS! Right after they released a 2DS because nobody cared about 3D. The amount of games that are going to use those buttons is going to be minimal.

Definitely. This is a bold new direction for the company in terms of how to revitalize themselves in the industry.

Apple upgrades in their hardware are, mostly, notable.

Nintendo effort to substitute their 4 year old hardware, which was already old, is...luaghable.

They still have a long way...

So to anyone that would rationally want to trade in and upgrade, behold now ye without account based purchases the folly. Even I've bought some shit on 3DS. Jesus christ.

I'm surprised at the lack of fury across the interwebs.

Um, what dafuq are you smoking? While it may not be quite as convenient as a proper cloud based system, the 3DS's system transfer system is near flawless for what it is.

Damn, I only needed two things.

-Better audio output. The output through headphones on the 3DSXL is pure shit. Can't even power good earbuds

-Better battery life. Still 3.5 hours? Maybe 5 with medium brightness? That is a bummer.

Still going to get an New XL.

I laughed at the new "stick".

It's a thumb dimpler. Though, as I said in the direct thread, I'm surprised we didn't have ardent defenders opposed to the idea of a second stick function when it would do split the market in twine causing chaos in the streets. Now we get it and hardware-exclusive games! Great time to be alive.

I soooo need a New Nintendo 3DS LL so I can play the second wave of Sega 3D Classics:

After Burner II - Fantasy Zone - Out Run - Fantasy Zone II - Thunder Blade

Probably wont see New 3DS/XL until february or march in the west.

NOA and NOE will go another Holiday with the current models then wham all the new owners in the face with new models in the spring
