Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

Il wait for new new new new 3DS LLLL

Nintendo struggling with naming products is not going to cause some confusion when those exclusive new 3DS games drop more

The inside of new XL seems to have the same finish of the original, fat Nintendo DS... Is that true?
If so, one more reason for me to be happy. I hated those cheap plastics of the actual XL.

This is really weird.... but I want one. The colored buttons are cute.
Too bad there's no mention of region lock, although I guess that's also software-based anyway.

OMG OMG TIMMY AND TOMMY NOOK

See, I would almost, almost, be tempted to upgrade for that Isabelle case. But again, Nintendo being Nintendo only the small 3DS has changeable faceplates and there is no way I'd downgrade from an XL to those piddly little screens.

Still region locked = no buy!!
Sorry Big N, but its not worth it

Wait for further announcements. I've got a feeling it is not region locked. Apparently it was mentioned at some point in the stream, but I had to step away from the computer during that part.

I think Nintendo has learned that region locking is short sighted.

This isn't the GBA SP. This has enhanced hardware which supports software which will not run on the regular 3DS. That is the fundamental factor to look at.

The DSi had that too.

There were a few retail games that used the camera like Face Training.

Edit: And I don´t think they´ll double down on new 3DS exclusive software.

So to anyone that would rationally want to trade in and upgrade, behold now ye without account based purchases the folly. Even I've bought some shit on 3DS. Jesus christ.

I'm surprised at the lack of fury across the interwebs.

Will trade in my blue Japanese 3DS toward one of those.

Of course I'll still have my XY LL, and I'll need a NA one too since my XL is getting old.

Might as well be the 3DS2, even though it's unlike any other hardware generation before.

Its focus seems to be more like what the DSI did, where new software was available, but it was still primarily a DS.

I wonder how the new 3DS only software will be sold, if it'll only be available online (like DSi), or if it'll be sold in stores, and people will just have to know not to buy it. It doesn't have an extra cart slot, or a different one, does it?

Will some games have new features if you play on new 3DS? I wonder...

Oh that's a shame.

I always felt like the resolution of the 3DSXL was not enough (upscaled), but I'm used to it too.

Well that announcement was surprising, good thing I sold my 3DS XL Zelda Edition a long time ago, but even if Smash Bros. comes out for 3DS I'll not buy another one...
Very funny that Xenoblade will be only playable on the new 3DS.
But I guess this way Ninty can sell these new 3DS's better.

Er, I don't recall them mentioning that. And the system is Japan only right now why would they talk about region lock for it?

So how long before they start phasing out the original 3DS/XL from stores? I'd assume they'd want as many people to pick up the New 3DS and prevent further fragmentation with exclusive games, considering its launching in Japan in 2 months I'd think it'd happen soon.

I like it... but then again i don't

Games exclusive to this version because of a slightly upgraded CPU and a few new buttons/C-stick... yet they didn't improve the screen? I like basically everything they've done, but i don't like the fact that it splinters the userbase. Or it should have been a new generation.

Love the SNES buttons though.

I also think, this is them holding out, in order to release their next portable with the same OS as their next home console.

Since it's just an upgrade on the 3DS I would be amazed if this was not region locked.

Makes me glad i sold my old european 3DS and waited to see if i'd pick an NA or JP one. That stick though, truly a thing of nightmares.
Not a fan of upgraded hardware, i personally think it's a bit of a dick move.

Nintendo of America will need to rename this. They can I'll afford another "Wii U" misinformation where a lot of their desired user base thinks that their brand new product is just an add on to a system they already have.

That being said, xenoblade does it for me. I'll own one when that game gets a US release. Favorite wii game hand down and portable RPGs is where my life lives currently

I'm glad I decided to be a late adopter last gen

really hope older games can take advantage of the hardware bump

often hear about poor frame rate in games

I don't know. Like I said, I missed that part if it existed. Someone said something about it in the other thread.

Either way, it's not a foregone conclusion.
