Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

Fuck this shit. I literally purchased a 3DS XL yesterday and its too late to cancel the order. I know there's gonna be exclusives for these the systems like they've done with GBC and DSi in the past.

I don't need to have all the new toys but it would've been nice if Nintendo had announced it or teased it. P.s that name is terrible. Wtf is wrong with your ad department Nintendo?

There were exclusive games for the DSi. There were exclusive games for the GBC.

Why people suddenly have an issue with this, I do not know.
There was NEVER a game on the level of Xenoblade Chronicles exclusive to the DSi. NEVER.

That is why people suddenly have an issue with this. It is easy to understand.

Nintendo learned nothing from the wii and wiiu debacle.

This is just going to add to brand confusion.

People won't understand this is a new console and it will cannibalize sales.

They will be a small portion of its library. The userbase to develop exclusive "new 3DS" games won't be enough to justify the development of 3DS games to completely switch to this handheld. They are trying to ensure a smooth transition to the next de facto new platform over lapping userbase and software development from a generation to another. I think it's brilliant! Don't know if it will work though hehehe But the concept/idea is very elegant.

Sure, the 32X library was small, still was considered a new hardware.

I think the idea is elegant, but the execution is very poor.

Is that JP SNES color scheme real?! US better get the actual colors this time, not that two shades of purple horsebuggery.

Backup games to your PC? Nintendo's going in hard for that easy-piracy world championship belt again, I see.

I'll upgrade eventually, but not as soon as it is released for us. 3ds xl with circle pad pro is fine for me and I can wait to play xenoblades.

This is not remotely a "Super 3DS". Look at NES and Super NES games. Look at 3DS and New 3DS games. "Super" would be entirely inappropriate.

Any word on how transfers work? Does this work just like a normal 3DS for transfers? Nintendo's digital offerings are still completely awful, I just don't want to buy this thing and find all my games are on the slightly worse model.

I have a OG 1st day Blue 3DS, I was loosing interest lately and wasn't going to change it at all, but this ... I am buying this day one too !!!

So much that they went back to iPad Air after 3 and 4. Dunno.

I think I'm going to call this the 3DSi.

Well you logically can't continually keep using the new iPad otherwise it gets confusing. But you can use it once after long period time since people will know what your talking about.

It's be like calling New super Mario brothers two, new super Mario brothers. That doesn't work.

New 3DS can't possibly be the final name?!?!?!

Seems like a bad idea to add more inputs. Gonna splinter the userbase.
No more so than the dualshock on ps1. But yeah due to having to cater to og 3ds owners not many games will use the new features I think. Still, this gives me hope that their next handheld will have a second stick and 4 shoulder buttons as standard.

There was NEVER a game on the level of Xenoblade Chronicles exclusive to the DSi. NEVER.

It's not even really an exclusive game. It's just a damn port of a years old Wii game that wouldn't be possible on 3DS.
Even though it is something Nintendo has done for almost 20 years.

Yup. They only now have mobile to compare it to so now they are freaking out. Silly internet.

Is that really that hard?

I dunno, I could ask the same thing of a multi-billion tech corporation in the year 2014-15 with no account based purchasing system.

EU 'New' 3DS wont be out til 2015, so down goes the trade in value. I should also not use it to ensure no wear and tear now as well.

I traded in my 3DS OG for my 3DS XL at Gamestop and they let me take home my 3DS XL and OG to transfer the data. I went back the next day, gave them the OG and they gave me the difference. No issues.

Either Gamestop has some VERY trusting policies, or the person that authorised that should have been fired on the spot. Why on earth would any store let you walk out with two systems on the promise that you'll return one of them? It's practically inviting theft.

So this is the amiibo edition 3DS's. Seems like a clever idea all things considered. Bit of a ballache that i'll have to upgrade my 3DS for a 3rd time though.

I got a Zelda XL maybe half a year ago, so small chance I'm switching over to this. Good for people who don't own one yet, although it seems like you'll have to wait a while.

3ds screen quality, resolution, and GPU power are all long in the tooth. I certainly don't think it's fine to stick with that in 2015.

First, graphics aren't everything, and second, if you can't stick with the 3DS graphics for another couple of years go buy a Vita and see how that works out.

There was NEVER a game on the level of Xenoblade Chronicles exclusive to the DSi. NEVER.

That is why people suddenly have an issue with this. It is easy to understand.

But if the game wouldn't work on the regular 3DS to begin with what is the big deal in porting some game to make the New 3DS a bit more attractive?

because it's trendy to make mountains out of molehills, especially when it's "in" to shit on the company in question.

this hardware is no different in 'value' to the 3ds/xl, as the dsi was to the dsphat/dslite.

people are simply ignoring these precedents so they can be 'outraged' by this 'non-news'.

i'm personally not to keen on this new hardware revision (because i don't believe many games will actually make use of the upped-specs), and the form factor is inconsequential to me, but i'm not gonna join the 'outrage brigade' who's sole purpose on the inter webs is to be outraged about everything and nothing.

I guess it makes sense that there is no US release this year. NOA knows that the 3DS, 3DS XL, and the 2DS will probably sell a ton over the holiday anyway. Might as well get your holiday sales bump this year, followed buy another bump due to this release next year.

Yes, but they used it twice in a row (3 and 4) since they were incremental upgrades of the same product replacing the previous version, much like the Macbook Pro is only called Macbook Pro. There's no way NSMB and NSMB2 can be considered the same product.

So is the screen on the non-XL model any bigger than the original 3DS's? I really want those customizable cover plates but I'm not sure if I can deal with the screen size downgrade after owning a 3DS XL.

That has the be the worst position for a stick I've ever seen. Why couldn't they have moved the four face buttons lower and put a proper second analog stick parallel with the one on the left?
Why don't you just take your 3DS and try it out? It would suck balls, that's why they didn't do it. Almost no game uses the second stick, so the buttons have have priority. The way say handle it looks strange, but it is pretty much the most sensible way to implement this feature. Also, a proper slide pad requires a lot more space.

That presumes the first units will remain on the market. Why would the original 3DS and 3DS XL remain on the market? Could you get a normal GBA after the SP released?

Goddamn, the c-stick and extra buttons are a neat extra, but I would've killed for that beautiful 3D viewing angle!

Should've focused on New 3DS XL getting the colored buttons and face plates though.
