Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

What? My point is the 3DS and 2DS won't be able to run all of the 3DS games anymore, because there is now a New 3DS.. They will have to look at the box and see if the 3DS will be able to run new games because they might be on the New 3DS exclusively.

I think you interpreted what I mean't wrong.
When it's shown that the New 3DS will have its own version of the eShop with no retail versions of the games (again, like the DSi), you have no argument.

Can someone clarify this, from the Q&A page?

Q. Why do I need fees and credit card authorization to release the filtering function of the "Internet Browser" to You?
A.In order to prevent the children, would cancel the filtering function Unbeknownst to their parents, we have a mechanism that requires payment by credit card in order to release.

Seems that in order to turn off the browser filter (which is enabled by default), you have to give Nintendo your credit card details. That's a new thing, right? Is the Google translation accurate in saying that they require payment in order to remove the filter?

This is just bullshit and a total dickmove to your customers and loyal fan base that already bought a 3DS. Fuck off Nintendo. Seriously.

They should have just waited for 1-2 years and release a new handheld altogether... (they will probably still do that).

Not only that, the screen colors actually looks much worse...

So it's basically a 3DSi - a system with a number of improvements over the original model but it's also a bit of a stopgap.

I think it looks like a worthwhile upgrade, especially since my original XL is starting to look a little worn out.

these all seem like perfectly logical space saving moves.
So you have to unscrew and open the bottom part to store the stylus?

I know it's not really that important but that's still very inconvenient.

EDIT: Ah. Looking at the screenshots kuppy posted, that's thankfully not the case. It still has an opening on one side to slide it in.

While this looks to be an awesome DSi like upgrade I think Nintendo might be moving toward a more mobile-like upgrade process so I'm not expecting a big successor, at least in the near future. I guess we'll see how this does and what they think of next.

Looks like they addressed all the weak points of the 3DS. Unity and Webframework I imagine will be big pushes. NFC is great, the c-stick is weird but the CCP was only really used for camera so it's a big win over what exists. Extra SD card is nice. Dynamic contrast is nice. Interested to see if their any-angle 3D works well. Wish they added bluetooth for audio though.

If it's microSD only, how will the system transfer work?
You literally just copy and paste the contents of your old SD card to the new one, using a PC. This is how it has always been done if you are changing SD cards.

Well, the images confirm a new charging dock, so that seals the deal. Day one purchase of the regular size version. I am excited that they increased the screen size a bit on the regular. If I were to make a wish list of changes, this would have covered pretty much everything. If only this were hitting stores here in October as well. Damn.

Eh, after buying a DSi when it launched, I'm going to pass on this. No reason to spend the extra cash for features that will get little use.

What I do find interesting is that they've now managed to cram all the Wii U buttons on to the 3DS. It looks like this the practice run for the incoming one platform, two console approach they've been hinting at for their next systems. 2016 for the NintendoOS?

Not only that, the screen colors actually looks much worse...

That part of the video is showing how the New 3DS automatically adjusts the screen's brightness based on your surrounding light levels. You don't need the screen set to full brightness in the dark, it just wastes batteries.

I agree, at least in the screens they released the New 3DS doesn't look as good. I have a bad feeling they will continue to release major titles in addition to Xenoblade exclusive to the new hardware in order to move units.

Thinking about it a little more I am definitely going to get the new mid-small size 3DS over the XL version, I love the customizable face plates and the form factor looks very improved over the jagged mess of the original 3ds.

From a consumers' standpoint, the best would have been to simply announce a new portable platform, with better internals for better graphics, because 3DS graphics are horrid, especially on the XL, and better controls, with a proper second analog. Due to the second analog and the new buttons, the fragmentation will still happen, but with the same shitty graphics.

Nope, pretty sure destroying their existing user base is not in Nintendo's plans right now.

Call it the 3DSi if it makes you feel better, because that's what's going on here. An internals update, sleeker hardware, and they integrated the CPP, but software/firmware/OS wise this is just another 3DS. (Nub complaints I can ignore, because (a) the IBM nub worked well back in the day and (b) it's almost tradition for everyone to complain about a Nintendo controller until they hold it)

What I'm interested to see is how Nintendo will handle dual-mode. Given the patch system and 3DS OS, it definitely seems possible to forward patch games at their discretion to add support for the new clock speed, memory, or CPP config. Developers would have to feel it's worth the price to do it, but the door is there that simply wasn't available on previous platforms.

Making Xenoblade n3DS exclusive tells me one thing: they couldn't make it work properly on the existing platform. Which makes sense, given the scope of those games and the hardware weaknesses of the existing 3DS. Else I'm assuming we would have seen it launch as a dual compatibility title.

EDIT: Aesthetically, I wish they used the coloured button scheme on the XL though. I like it, and while the XL is more "adult", if they really wanted to go that route they should have used the DSiXL burgundy grey paint job.

Fuck, I'm buying another 3DS.

Yes you have to pay 30yen via credit card to remove the filtering feature.

Why is this a bullshit move?

GB got the GB pocket, GBA got the SP, DS got the Lite, the XL and the DSi

I was an owner of the original ugly grey brick DS for that entire generation and didn't see any need to complain about the design or the lack of a shop with exclusive content.

People are just being entitled.

Do you have to unscrew it?

We know of one game, which probably won't ever see a localization anyway.

I'm willing to bet this well get localized, possibly even as a launch game for the new 3DS.

Xenoblade won't be sold at retail for the New 3DS? Where did you hear that?

I'll stick to my OG 3DS.

The screens look.. worse.

Just woke up. Where is the second stick, when can I get this thing in North America and when does Xenoblade come out?

Not only that, the screen colors actually looks much worse...
Can you read Japanese (I cant)? If you watched the video the Yoshi section started the same way and then the screens looked the same. This makes me think what they are showing is some sort of 'new' (heh) power saving mode.

Dude, that's the auto-brightness feature being shown, lmao

What do you know; the cover plates are actually the RIGHT SIDE UP unlike the stupid limited edition designs where the picture is upside down when you have it open.

Those who wanted one of those special edition Super Mushroom 3DSes can luckily now get one for cheap!

It would be cool if this revision was region free, since I'm visiting Japan by the end of the year and would love to buy one there

In case this isn't launching along with Xenoblade out of Japan, it NEEDS to be bundled with the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate...

The 2015 release is disappointing but this would make up for me.

It's talking about the brightness auto adjust feature

Second stick is a nub, we don't know, and we don't know. I wouldn't hold my breath on Xenoblade even being localized, they barely did the first game, and since this would require an entirely new localization it would make more sense to reprint or remaster the existing English version for Western audiences.

If nothing else this gives us a taste of the sort of additions the next "full" handheld will have, I guess. Dual slide pads seem much more likely now :D

Because there were no "exclusive" GB pockets, SP or LITE, XL games? The hardware remained the same. It was just another iteration of the same thing. The "new 3DS" is basically a new hardware. It's like a gen 5.2 instead of 5.0 (I dunno which handheld gen this is). The existence of "exclusive" n3DS games is what makes me mad.

Looks fantastic and I can't wait to buy one!

Sort of can't believe all the complaints when for years all I've heard was people wanting a revision with a second stick. :P

Did people moan in the same way on BB boards on the Internet after the Color was released?
