Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

Didn't see this in the OP, but Siliconera says that New 3DS has screens that are 1.2x larger.
Does that also apply for New 3DS XL?

Though with 4.2/3.6 inch screens and longer battery life, I might not even need a New 3DS XL.

No glaring logo? That fixes my hate of the Smash design! =D

People are tweeting it is region free? Is this true?

I'm doubtful but if it is I would sell my US 2DS and buy this.

The 3DS XL screen will be the same size as the current one. IIRC

Wait do these only support microSD cards? I don't want to have to buy a new card.

This is just bullshit and a total dickmove to your customers and loyal fan base that already bought a 3DS. Fuck off Nintendo. Seriously.

They should have just waited for 1-2 years and release a new handheld altogether... (they will probably still do that).

Not only that, the screen colors actually looks much worse...

That picture is demonstrating an optional feature that auto adjusts the brightness based on battery life.

Because there were no "exclusive" GB pockets, SP or LITE, XL games? The hardware remained the same. It was just another iteration of the same thing. The "new 3DS" is basically a new hardware. It's like a gen 5.2 instead of 5.0 (I dunno which handheld gen this is).

Take your fingers out of your ears (eyes) and actually read what people are saying to you.

The added CPU power is minimal. It is mainly being used up by the OS enhancements, which include REAL-TIME EYE-TRACKING to negate the 3D ghosting effect. That shit doesn't come for free and the system will reserve that bandwidth for that feature at all times. Therefore we can expect that very few games will actually be exclusive to the new iteration, and the ones that are probably won't even be localized.

Will be getting a White LL. I don't have interest in customising the exterior. Love the coloured buttons as well.

Edit - oh, no white LL. Lame.

please come out in time for smash, please Nintendo...

I am pretty annoyed, my Zelda 3ds XL has a smashed screen so I can't play smash, but I don't want to buy a new one if these are on the way out soon...

Please clarify Nintendo EU please!

The new ones look great though I am excited.

Could I get a mudkip one please, like the pikachu one just with 100% more mudkip.....

Yes you have to pay 30yen via credit card to remove the filtering feature.

Oh come on Ninty...

Well, I'm in HYPE MODE now, I did'nt expect that at all (just like when they announced the 2DS, but back then it was weird announcement)

I hope we in EU will get the smooth New 3DS with SNES-coloured buttons though !

Honestly don't see myself buying this. I really doubt there will be enough games that I have to play on it that won't be backwards compatible with the original 3DS. Xenoblade is cool and all but I already own and played that on my Wii. They would need some seriously heavy hitters to get me to contemplate getting this.

A bit passed because that second stick should have been in from the very beginning. Can barely afford to buy one iteration per generation so I won't be getting this. But I suppose it's good news that Nintendo are acknowledging the needs of a handheld for future generations.

It does confirm once and for all that I'm waiting several years after release before buying a Nintendo handheld. As a day one buyer of DS and 3DS, who stubbornly refused to upgrade, I've been caught out too many times.

Will be interesting to see how much software they release to support the New 3DS. I fear it's going to be a lot and I'll miss out on all of it, but for now I can comfortably live without Xenoblade.

Will probably end up getting this. My current OG 3DS has a faulty power button (pressing select or the home button too hard turns off the system) and the upgraded features seem decent enough.

I really want to see the improved 3d in person. I know I'm in the minority here but I absolutely love the 3D on the 3ds and having better viewing angles is a huge plus for me.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

My older sister bought me an XL last year as a christmas gift. I want this so bad but she will kill me if I buy it :(

The New 3DS screens at 1.2x the size of the regular 3DS screens. LL/XL sizes remain the same. I don't think there's any actual screen quality improvement, but the 3DS effect now uses the user-facing camera and the gyroscope to detect what angle the player is facing to adjust the 3D effect for a much wider viewing angle. There is also some energy saving auto-brightness feature for the screens.
Thanks. Too bad about no screen IQ improvements, the 3DS could really use it.

if the screens are better or if a bunch of exclusive games are announced then ill consider it but for the most part this update seems pointless.

WHAT! WHAT! This system is not going to be replaced within a year and a half or so then?! Or what! WHAT!

3DS is mid life not end life like the hardware kids want you believe. I think the never ending cell phone upgrades have younger people warped in how hardware updates should work.

hopefully $119 and $149. 3ds overdue for a price cut and the profit margin is massive.

I wouldn't be surprised if the NA model comes with a MicroSD card...

It's like a gen 5.2 instead of 5.0 (I dunno which handheld gen this is). The existence of "exclusive" n3DS games is what makes me mad.

Gameboy / Light / Pocket
Gameboy Color: new cartridge mode

Nintendo DS / DS Lite
Nintendo DSi / XL: new cartridge mode

3DS / 3DSXL / 2DS
n3DS / n3DSXL: new cartridge mode

Pretty much business as usual. I guess you could be made they didn't integrate the CPP earlier as forecasted by sprsk, but this new edition was basically on schedule. Only the GBA didn't have a new mode and it got a backlight instead, which was arguably the biggest qualitative leap forward possible at the time.

dat famicom color buttons
Yes, proper colors placement and proper naming... ^_^

I could triple-dip, but:
- I hope custom covers will be available for both models, I much prefer LL... Covers are a wonderful idea, especially when you fear any scratch to the console.
- I also prefer colored button on the standard one

Any chance that the skins for menu are made available for normal LL?

I'm enjoying the meltdowns, honestly.

Now, if they required the new hardware to play smash brothers I could understand the outrage.

But they don't.

Enjoy smash brothers and don't upgrade if you can resist.

Thinking logically, yes, they wouldn't start a new branding for retail versions of a port exclusive to a hardware revision.

Seriously, have you heard of the DSi?

You're speaking like you know for sure, that's why I asked. At this point your just arguing with your assumptions. I'll let it go there.

...that's my point? There ARE exclusives. That makes this so scummy. I doubt Xenoblade won't be localized...

I'm liking the new additions and tweaks to existing tech.

Will wait for region code clarification, since that is the deciding factor in my willingness to buy a Nintendo handheld. 3DS would already be mine if it weren't for that issue. I don't play hardware, but I sure as heck play software, and as such region codes are do or die features for me.

That said, If I am allowed to whine on a high level: I wanted the more brilliant SNES button colors, not these creamy subdued ones. Primary colors good.

Also, that nub is kind of minimalistic, but I'll take it. Better than nothing, or Franken3DS.
