Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

Take your fingers out of your ears (eyes) and actually read what people are saying to you.

The added CPU power is minimal. It is mainly being used up by the OS enhancements, which include REAL-TIME EYE-TRACKING to negate the 3D ghosting effect. That shit doesn't come for free and the system will reserve that bandwidth for that feature at all times. Therefore we can expect that very few games will actually be exclusive to the new iteration, and the ones that are probably won't even be localized.

How can we expect few exclusive games? They've already announced three games that are soft exclusive (can be played on old console but requires an expensive add-on) and one full exclusive.

Better browsing and Miiverse is good, currently it's not that comfortable. Actually good useful features with C-stick and integrated NFC. Probably still gonna wait for the successor, despite Xenoblade in 3D. Skipped the DSi back then and turned out to be a pretty good decision.

I was expecting new Nintendo hardware announcements in a year or two, but not new 3DS hardware now. I feel that this will increase the system's "lifespan" by a decent amount. Maybe it's time to finally get one.

We need a MH4U bundle for overseas

Seriously

Capcom/Nintendo please
Have you figured out who is the monster on the special edition?

A bit odd that it's not out til next year in the west. I would have probably bought at 3DS XL this holiday, but now I'm planning to wait it out.

Don't get one, just wait for the next backward compatible hardware generation.

2DS am cry.
I mean, an update like this had to happen, right? This isn't like the original DS where you could sit on the same hardware for 4+ years.

Is there word of a better screen? They can't still possibly be releasing the same old TN LCD trash again I hope.

I really want this. Was going to get a Smash XL but if a new XL is coming out next year then seems pretty pointless. Annoying..really hope it is released worldwide this year!

I was about to go buy a 2DS today to play Pokemon X and the upcoming Pokemon game but maybe I will hold on until 2015. Wish they would come sooner to the EU but meh, better to just wait a little. Seems like its going to be alot cheaper than the old 3DS.

I feel like I'm being trolled by that second analog stick. That thing looks unusable.

The extra shoulder buttons look like shit as well. Nintendo has the worst engineers.

Why in the world is Nintendo deciding to release this in Europe and the USA 3+ months AFTER the launch of Smash, and AFTER the holiday season?

Makes absolutely zero sense.

That C stick is tiny and in a weird position. Not sure I'd find that ergonomic or comfortable to use.

Also by the picture showing the micro sd and battery, does this mean the battery is replaceable? It'd be great if they made higher capacity ones like with the Wii U pro controller.

So this is a DSi-like revision? Hmm, been considering upgrading to an XL, glad I didn't. Still not sure if it's worth buying this though, will have to see if any interesting exclusives come out for it. Xenoblade Downgrade Edition isn't really going to do it since I already have it on Wii.

This is just bullshit and a total dickmove to your customers and loyal fan base that already bought a 3DS. Fuck off Nintendo. Seriously.

They should have just waited for 1-2 years and release a new handheld altogether... (they will probably still do that).

Not only that, the screen colors actually looks much worse...

Your angry because of 1 exclusive game for the new 3ds? What Sony did with PSP go was far far worse than this.

The biggest question right now is how big of a jump the CPU/GPU (SOC?) the new system will have over the original regarding how long of a life span it will have.

Looks pretty good all around, but that c-stick doesn't look great and might end up being a pain to use because it is so small.

So is it a good thing I hold off on buying one? I like the white on, but would only buy in XL.
Have to wait and see how this develops.

PS: They didn't abandon region lock by any chance, no? :-)

3DS is mid life not end life like the hardware kids want you believe. I think the never ending cell phone upgrades have younger people warped in how hardware updates should work.

3DS has to be near end-of-life just from the hardware sales. Sales are down massively year-over-year. New hardware revisions will only band-aid the issue.

Xenoblade isn't an exclusive, it was already released on the Wii and can be played on the Wii U.

Ok, you're going on my ignore list. Bye bye.
Butthurt much? Be my guest i guess.

Xenoblade is a HANDHELD exclusive now. I don't see how you can't see that. It won't be released for the "normal" 3DS or any other iteration of it.

I AM AWAY FOR 2 HOURS AND THIS HAPPENS!!!

How much more powerful will be the graphics? Or is it just speed and performance?

They better have some crazy new box or something to tell consumers some new games won't work on the older 3ds, instead of just a sticker!

So one exclusive then? By the way, none of the games that use the second joystick actually require the add-on, as you can play those games without it. You can use the touch screen as your second stick or play using other control schemes. I'm sure FF Explorers and any other game that come out will follow suit and include different control schemes.

I'll have to wait to see one in person to see if it's worth it to me. Xenoblade is cool and all, but I don't know if I need a portable version. The idea of a faster running machine with better 3D does sound appealing, though.

This is going to cause the same issues as the WiiU name did.

I have had a 3DS since launch & i am disappointed Nintendo have released basically a new handheld after just over three years of releasing the original, there is already a announcement of Xenoblade that will only work with the new 3DS.

The user-base is basically split now.

I am now worried that there will be a improved WiiU next with more power, so where does that leave me with my WiiU?

Here we are, last week talking Nintendo(well, NoA)'s Ninjas were asleep with all the leaks. It turns out they were in Japan guarding this.

Any word on whether or not the new models will be region locked? As an American living overseas I refuse to buy another Nintendo console until they stop the region locking BS but there are a lot of 3DS games I'd live to play. If they do away with the region locking in the new model I'll be picking one up ASAP.

2DS am cry.
I mean, an update like this had to happen, right? This isn't like the original DS where you could sit on the same hardware for 4+ years.

Nintendo DS: 2004
DS Lite: 2006
DSi: 2008
DSiXL: 2009

A little bit faster but then the market itself has sped up a bit. Since there were so few DSi exclusives (and maybe none of real significance) I guess you're right that you could stick with the OG hardware though. Not that you'd want to, the DS fat is the winnebago of handhelds.

Is there word of a better screen? They can't still possibly be releasing the same old TN LCD trash again I hope.

Well the 3DS viewing angle is improved. Some of this is the camera but I'm guessing it's a newer iteration of the panel. Still, expect "cheap quality" as Nintendo usually provides with their displays.

So 2-3 years until the next new portable comes out? If we are going by DSi to 3DS that is.

Man, regular n3DS is beautiful. Seriously considering to pick it up instead of the XL.

Also, would love a MH4U Bundle but not with this custom design (and not with tthe XL). The "bg" is really fucking ugly, if it was only the monster on white, it would be great.

Why in the world is Nintendo deciding to release this in Europe and the USA 3+ months AFTER the launch of Smash, and AFTER the holiday season?

Makes absolutely zero sense.

Other people have brought up Nintendo wanting to focus on the Wii U in those territories, and how this announcement won't likely impress upon the type of people that would buy the current model this holiday season.

Cause they can't produce enough of them for all markets and Japan is the most important market for the 3DS.

Stuff like this is just pathetic.

Stop acting so entitled.

as much as I think splitting the userbase is a bad idea. I will absolutely buy one of the new XL models when they arrive in NA. I spend more time playing handheld consoles more than my Wii U or my PC, so being able to play Xenoblade on the go would be a dream!

I hope those come to the regular 3DS/XL too via firmware update.
I really want those skins.
I need that Animal Crossing one ;_;

so, i'll lose what i've on the regular SD card ? -_-
i'm really upset bout this upgrade, it's more like a new system due to the improvements

I'm pretty sure you can still use your old SD card or at least be able to transfer the stuff from your SD card on a microSD card via your PC.
