I'm really happy for people that can enjoy this. It sounds like the thing that 3DS/XL should've been all along (though perhaps this product back then would be even more expensive).

I have the below 3DS variety. It's charming and green and I refuse to abandon it. Even if there's an exclusive port of Xenoblade. Sorry Ninty.

yoshi3dsfb-590x701qss7k.jpg

Xenoblade isn't an exclusive, it was already released on the Wii and can be played on the Wii U.

Ok, you're going on my ignore list. Bye bye.

Semantics.

Xenoblade handheld port is exclusive to the New 3DS, "exclusive" means in this case it can only be played in that console and not on OG 3DS.

We know the game is avaliable in other systems.

Like AC Unity is exclusive to next-gen consoles
and you go "oh you can play it on PC!", but in this case means that it won't release on old gen consoles....

Are they going for the cellphone model with slight hardware updates instead of complete overhauls with this?

Not yet. Nintendo has mentioned they want basically an iOS style model, but I'm pretty sure the 3DS and its SDK is not ready for that transition.

This is the 3DSi, basically. Next gen, we can guess they may switch to the unified OS model.

These are nice and all but I can see Nintendo skipping them in west. There are too few 3DS games lined up for western release and nothiing in the earth could convince the western developers to make games on 3DS. Even the indie scene has left 3DS. They'll skip these and move on to next gen Nintendo handheld release in west. Since 3DS is still popular in Japan, they may delay the Japanese release of the console AND since no developer in Japan screams "GRAPHICS!!! GIVE ME GRAPHICS!".

Because there were no "exclusive" GB pockets, SP or LITE, XL games? The hardware remained the same. It was just another iteration of the same thing. The "new 3DS" is basically a new hardware. It's like a gen 5.2 instead of 5.0 (I dunno which handheld gen this is). The existence of "exclusive" n3DS games is what makes me mad.
How old are you? really.

BYE at Nintendo selling their own microSD. :lol

Give me back my SD Card slot you fuckers.
fuckers? What the hell man?
I feel like I'm being trolled by that second analog stick. That thing looks unusable.

The extra shoulder buttons look like shit as well. Nintendo has the worst engineers.
It's an upgrade to an existing system, that's all it's meant to be. They wanted to keep the form factor and shape and these come with space restrictions. The "stick" is probably like those mouse nubs on laptops and isn't meant to be used as a main input method, probably just for occasional camera adjustment for the few games that would benefit from it. I don't understand why people are so upset. If the 3DS didn't interest you previously, this update isn't meant to make you do a 180.

His problem is that he can't play it on his current system, I get that. But if he really wanted to play it, he would have bought it for the Wii already. Crocodile tears don't inspire sympathy from me, sorry. And really, there's no use getting upset about this until we know it is being localized, which it probably won't be!

Just woke up. Where is the second stick, when can I get this thing in North America and when does Xenoblade come out?
Second stick is that tiny thing to the top right of the face button. America likely to be sometime 2015, beats me on Xenoblade.

So how does content/profile transfer work on 3ds these days?
Read system settings manual or search for system transfer tool. The hardest step now is you can't just swap SD cards at the end as New is microSD only.

Didn't see this in the OP, but Siliconera says that New 3DS has screens that are 1.2x larger.
Does that also apply for New 3DS XL?

Though with 4.2/3.6 inch screens and longer battery life, I might not even need a New 3DS XL.
I think XL screens are same size.

Wait do these only support microSD cards? I don't want to have to buy a new card.
Yep. Plus it is almost an n-gage[ing] experience to replace it (at least you can scare it via LAN to transfer files).

I was about to go buy a 2DS today to play Pokemon X and the upcoming Pokemon game but maybe I will hold on until 2015. Wish they would come sooner to the EU but meh, better to just wait a little. Seems like its going to be alot cheaper than the old 3DS.
Don't be fooled by Yen to Euro exchange rates. We always a lot more than those. I'd expect them to be the same price as current 3DS and 3DS XL respectively...

Any word on whether or not the new models will be region locked? As an American living overseas I refuse to buy another Nintendo console until they stop the region locking BS but there are a lot of 3DS games I'd live to play. If they do away with the region locking in the new model I'll be picking one up ASAP.
Assume locked until said otherwise. In theory it will run on different firmware to the 3DS (HTML5 video player in browser etc).

which include REAL-TIME EYE-TRACKING to negate the 3D ghosting effect.

Excuse me are we sure it's that (as in they said it/it's written somewhere) or could it still just be a wider view angle ? I don't think this info is in the OP and I'm not browsing 20 pages to find out :P

This is gonna be really confusing for new people. I'm already seeing a lot of people on Twitter not knowing if they can keep their regular 3DS machines now. Hell, even I am a little confused at this.

I guess I'll eventually buy one but I need some solid info on price, American continent release date, region-lock status and exclusive catalog. Also, that right stick looks uncomfortable as hell.

The extra shoulder buttons are going to be god awful. They are in the same position as on the original Classic Controller for Wii, and that was a complete pain to use.

I'm in for better 3D.

About the split user base, isn't this the same what happened with the DSi? No one cared in the end...

Watch the video, it shows eye-tracking from the player-facing camera supplemented by gyro. I wish it was a better screen, but that isn't the case.

That C-stick is so awkwardly close to the hinge. I understand the reason to keep the buttons at the same place just for hand placement but...hmm.

Asserting that it doesn't look ergonomic, therefore it isn't ergonomic is an absurd leap in logic. I'd rather wait for some hands-on reports before jumping to that conclusion.

I can't believe almost all Neogaf community is loving this s**t.

Bad left analogue since day one, uncomfortable shoulder buttons and now a new right tiny analogue (so you need it Nintendo, right?) and a new shoulder button,.... and you look so happy. You look like Apple fanboys. :((

3ds is a total mess and they are trying to fix it instead to rebuild it from scratch.

Wow, I already have a dozen 3DSes. And now I need and want want another one.

It sounds neat, though. Upgrades are always nice. I like the right one, it reminds me of a Super Famicom. I love the Super Famcom, it's my favourite video game system of all time, so I'd love to have a 3DS with a Super Famicom theme.

I want a bigger one, though. What are they calling it, the LL? I want an LL, too. I hope they make a Super Famicom themed New 3DS LL. That would be so neat.

Man, regular n3DS is beautiful. Seriously considering to pick it up instead of the XL.

Also, would love a MH4U Bundle but not with this custom design (and not with tthe XL). The "bg" is really fucking ugly, if it was only the monster on white, it would be great.

Yeah I have an XL at the moment but maybe I'll just back down to the n3DS when they hit in North America. I'll have to hold it first you forget how small the screen of the 3DS felt and the n3DS 1.2 times bigger so 4.2" and 3.6".

That's no excuse for poor design. They could have added a usable second stick and not broken compatibility.

This thing looks like a bad fan mock up and an ergonomic nightmare.

Entitled? How? Just because I'd like to be able to play games for a hardware I bought? Yeah, call me entitled.

The port isn't available on your hardware. It's not because Nintendo hates you; it's because it doesn't work on your hardware. Perhaps Nintendo could have dialed back some sliders (frame rate, draw distance?) to make it work; perhaps there are other limitations at hand we don't yet know about (DS->DSi had a RAM increase, for example).

So no 802.11n, then? That would be the real win. It's unfortunate that I have to bring the 2.4GHz band of 802.11n down to 802.11g speeds for my entire network just because of a handheld video game console?
