Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

Mannnnn are you serious???? Ive been waiting forever for a 3ds model that had a 2nd stick and just accepted that nintendo wouldnt do it so I bought an xl when I got pokemon, and then they announce this?! 1/10 >:( ... Im going to buy it though, this is the 3ds model I wanted since day 1.

same here, i was waiting for a model with a built-in second stick since they release that clunky accessory for the old model.
now i can buy a 3DS.

If there is one thing that Circle Pad Pro reveal taught me, is no to be such a hot head when it comes to Nintendo hardware. Do you guys remember when it was revealed?

"fuuuuuck 3DS is now obsolete"
"every new game will use 2 sticks"

etc. etc.

Ladies and gentlemen, let's wait. No need to overreact. You will all be able to play new Pokemon, Smash Bros, FF: T, and us folks in EU will be even able to play SMTIV (fucking finally).

For now, we know that a port of a 4 year old game with subpar performance is the only thing coming to the new 3DS. Let's wait, seriously.

Besides, we're all like a year from it's release in EU/USA. Just chill. Besides, be it 3DS, XL, 2DS, New 3DS, Vita or fucking gamegear, you still won't play this:

Let that sink in ;_;

I searched in the thread and saw a couple people have the same question I do:

So they're clearly going to have the New 3DS do Wii U Gamepad functionality, right? All the buttons/functions are there now, correct?

Remove the Gamepad from the Wii U and exchange it with this/sell the Wii U standalone for a much lower price, and you've got a potential monster
Holy shit you're on to something. But doesn't the Wii U game pad have specialised hardware for lag free casting?

What the hell, Nintendo? You had plenty of room there for a full sized second analog stick, and instead you needlessly moved the start and select buttons into that space. Now, there's just wasted space on both sides of the home button and we're stuck using a tiny nub in the corner above the buttons....

What's the difference?

What would make this a new platform, if you don't believe that is what this is?

(Question directed to everyone/anyone who feels this way.)

It's clearly not a new platform. That is what I have been arguing. It's simply a hardware revision, much like the DSi was.

I think it's more due to perception. With the small C-Stick-esque stick, then it keeps the form factor of the 3DS. If it was big, then it would send a wave of confusion (more than here) of people assuming it's a new platform.

So sick of the limited 3DS line of portables... as has been said by many others this is a 3DSi. The unmatching sizes of the screens, crappy analog stick now packaged with an even worse mini crappy analog stick. The Z triggers, colored buttons, improved battery, and matte cosmetic are its only plus features.

I hope the next DS is backwards compatible with both DS/3DS games, so i can get rid of my OG 3DS and just keep the games to play on a better looking portable with proper dual analogs and prettier screen.

A new platform would be a marked and clear departure from the old, Nintendo doesn't support multiple portable platforms at the same time (or multiple console platforms). This would mean all 3DS games in development would become N3DS exclusives, when in reality we're mostly hearing "There are games in development that support it, and one so far that requires it."

God dammit Nintendo, I just bought an XL less than a year ago.

That said, I haven't turned the thing on in over a month so unless the hardware-exclusive content is super fucking rad I suppose the call to upgrade is going to be mostly lost on me any damn way.

SNES colored buttons are cool. Also, good timing. The rubber piece of my circle pad keeps falling off lately, so I was kind of thinking about whether time was ripe for a replacement.

My wallet cries.

So if there are any exclusive games for this new 3DS (like Xenoblade), we can't play them on our regular ones? I even have a Circle Pad Pro for the extra buttons!

I wonder if the game cartridges will look any different.

What's the difference between a new platform and a revised model? That is the difference

Yeah it's got a streaming chip in it. Obviously since the thing just got announced, we don't have the guts in it...but I can't think of a reason to add all those buttons and a second analog stick and not just go whole hog on the thing. They added NFC, for crying out loud. How are you going to use Amiibos when playing a 3DS? :p

The chipset is new. A system is defined by it's chipset, because that's where all the magic happens. This is absolutely "new hardware", not a redesign.

A system is not defined by its chipset, not as far as the average consumer is concerned. It's defined by the content it can run and the features it has. I'm not sure we know enough about the difference in experience between this and the old model to tell how the consumer will perceive it just yet.

I liked this announcement. I will buy the New 3DS XL and will only get the smaller New 3DS when it's a bit cheaper. Also, let's see if Nintendo will release a Xenoblade Limited Edition console. I wouldn't be surprised if they did this.

- second stick
- more buttons
- CPU improved, makes browsing Miiverse / eShop much faster.
So, what happens with the older 3DS models when newer games make use of these improvements? Especially the improved CPU functions (faster CPU?) Will a game like that have performance issues on an older 3DS?

I'm surprised that they couldn't integrate Wii u gamepad functionality into it. Is the WiFi hardware that expensive?

Also they could have taken the opportunity to align the chipsets with the wiiu hardware and maybe start making new 3ds software playable on wiiu.

I'm how they say... "shook". Definitely did not expect this.

Seen some people use the analogy DS -> DSi, I suppose it's something like that.

Not sure I'll bother upgrading. I never did get a DSi.

Ah! I love this design!

This is my favourite so far! I love white and light pink!
I love all pastel colours, but pink and white and seafoam green and white are my favourite colours and combinations ever!

This is why I have too many 3DSes... I just love their designs too much... *_*

I posted this just 9 days ago....

Dat market.

I think Nintendo is really dropping the ball with the 3DS though. It just feels stagnant, and even though it's king, it's doing worse than DS.

Wheres the 3DS+?

-Make the tubes go faster to eliminate load times
-Triple battery life
-Make the default machine slightly bigger (bigger screens, but not XL big)
-Extend range of streetpass
-Increase on board storage
-Make available in pastel pink

Launch that in late September and kill everyone else once and for all.

Nintendo reads my posts!

This reminds me of the GB to GBC upgrade.

Was everyone bitching as much back then about GBC-exclusive games?
GBC was released 10 years after the original GB. GB was already an old console, nobody minded if there were a few GBC exclusives. Personally, i thought of it as a new, different console that can play old GB games.

Not too excited about this one.
I only got a 3DS XL last year and I was hoping it would be a while longer in the "spotlight".

I'm all for hardware revisions like the second analog stick, better battery life and better 3D. But better hardware with some major exclusive games like Xenoblade Chronicles? I Don't Know.

PS: I was also hoping that nintendo would provide an easier way to play Xenoblade that doesn't involve having to get a new console

Jesus, That second stick. Maybe it's a good thing I'm a sucker and bought the circle pad pro, I can't imagine playing Monster Hunter as a Gunner with that.
