Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

I just thought something. Smash is having a huge marketing campaign right now, however it's mostly for the 3DS, as that is launching first. How are they going to keep the hype high for the Wii U version? Probably by continuing with the PotD and then... what? All the game content will be already spoiled from September onwards.

Seeing what they're doing with Mario Kart, I can't shake the feeling they're going to send out some free updates and free DLC. So what I think is that the leaked roster could be the final one, but 5 more characters could be revealed after the 3DS version comes out, included in the Wii U version and given as free DLC to 3DS users.

DLC coming later wouldn't surprise me.
Kept you waiting huh?

Yeah this is what a lot of us are thinking.
I know i'm betting that there's going to be more than just exclusive modes. They know Smash is their money maker this holiday. Plus being a fighting game the characters are what's going to bring in the hype over anything else.

That would align with the "leak" from Smashboards, coming from the guy who says a Nintendo rep told him to still expect surprises on the character front, even after the leak.

Perhaps if the game is given monthly balance / stability patches, individual cut veterans could be included. Sort of like Hyrule Warriors adding in weapons and characters they didn't have time to finish through regular updates. If newcomers are planned for the Wii U version, they might be added to the 3DS in a similar manner on the day of the Wii U version's release.

Monthly balance patches are too knee-jerky. You need to let the stew settle before you can truly tell what's broken. Only bugs should be patched early on, stuff the devs didn't intend. Stuff that is utterly broken.

Balance has to happen once everyone knows all the nuances from all of the characters.

I'm of the belief that, even if the leaked roster is final for the 3DS version, there will be more characters available when the Wii U version launches. Whether that's via DLC (paid or unpaid) for both versions, or if the Wii U will come with those characters and 3DS players can download them for free I'm not sure. Heck, I'm even confident in post-Wii U launch DLC.

What this basically means is these will be the best Smash rosters ever made.

Also can we talk about how utterly perfect the Smash Amiibos are? God I'm going to own every single one.

If they aren't saving characters for the WiiU version and adding them to the 3DS when Smash WiiU releases, then I don't know what on earth they're thinking.

I like that idea simply because it means that smash hype will last all the way until Wii U edition. I'm just being selfish, though.

so this OT is only ~1/3 filled, but i feel we should set it up early that OT15 will have something to do with dicks being shulked now that its official

That's my feeling as well.

Also I still consider Chorus Kids a given, seeing as they are from a leak that got 9 out 11 characters right and knew the true name of the Mii character. Yet they don't appear in the roster. Same for polar bears and Ice Climbers, makes no sense to include them as enemies, it would add insult to the injury.

I can see Chorus Kids and Ice Climbers being ready to release with the Wii U version as free DLC, among other characters.

Plus it seems like a very "Sakurai" thing to do, ya know? I have no doubt the man is giddy because we think we know all the characters but he still (hopefully) has some surprises up his sleeve.

And that's not selfish at all, Smash Hype (TM) is the best hype.

My first disgusting GIF I made trying to showcase Final Destination, and it looks damn awful, but the stage is sweet:

Is it just me or do the Shulk model look a billion times better than the one in the leak? Even if the leak was a bit blurry, I don't think that much detail would of been left out.

Can you play this with a classic pro controller? What about Wiimote? I guess if all fails I'll play on the gamepad, really have no desire to buy an adapter to allow gamecube controllers.

use gifcam maybe?

Love the new 3ds's auto brightness and stable 3d. I'm going to probably have to turn 3D off for smash because i'll wiggle the screen too much.

I'm gonna have to pixel Shulk in underwear.

This is a good development.

Who was the lucky one that called that for avatar use.
That's definitely is a good development.
I don't want it I just wanna know who the lucky gaffer is.
But It sounds like no one ever claimed it.

Nah it looks good enough to get the basic point across.

Dunno about the model, but the character in general is way more appealing to me now that Sakurai explained the buff mechanic.

Considering how we never stop going on about how superior the WiiU version will be, do they really need more characters to convince us?

Low quality, of screen video of a video doesn't really deliver the best idea of a playable character.

Shulk looks the same in both clips really.

Sakurai's coven of witches channeled all the jank of his model into the underwear costume. His default look is now much improved, but the alternate model looks like it's perpetually melting.

It's good that my fears regarding Wii Fit Trainer has been corrected.

See, in the WFT trailer, she is chatty, what with giving exercising tips and stuff. I was dumbfounded when in the demo vids at E3, she doesn't give out exercising tips but instead just grunts and such (although we get the amazing SALUTE THE SUN!). I was wondering (and fearing) that they cut her chatty self.

That trailer gave me hope that she is back to her chatty self... but then I worry if the English version will lack that.
