Jesus, That second stick. Maybe it's a good thing I'm a sucker and bought the circle pad pro, I can't imagine playing Monster Hunter as a Gunner with that.
It's really called "New Nintendo 3DS"?
Nintendo never learns with these horrible names.
It's a copy paste reference from amirox when SquareEnix announced FFXIII was coming to Xbox 360
Nintendo just shot themselves in the foot.
I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase the New 3DS and 3DS LL, nor will they purchase any of Nintendo's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Nintendo has alienated an entire market with this move.
Nintendo, publicly apologize and cancel the New 3DS and New 3DS LL or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Yeah, i mean they already had the ideal setup for start/select and home on the 3DS and XL - they should have stuck with that layout and used the extra room for a proper 2nd stick - not a tiny nub.All they had to do was move start and select to the bottom middle and they would have had room for a proper analog stick.

Nah I dont think so, this is not their next gen handheld. Unless the spec bump is a lot more significant than we think it is which is unlikely in my opinion.
I can see the casual conversation now.
Hey dude I bought the New 3DS!
Why didn't you buy one used?
No dude this is the New 3DS!
Um......ok.
It's different that the old 3DS!
What makes it different than the old 3DS?
Because it's new!
Please kill me!
Sorry just woke up, where is the second stick?
Traditionally systems have been supported for 5 years if not longer. 3 years is bullshit and is a total abandonment of the existing user base. I thought the Wii support was terrible dropping support after 5 years, this just takes it to a whole new level. I'm done with this company until they find some direction. Which doesn't seem likely until Iwata is out of the equation.Nah, it's been 3 years it's been out long enough.
I feel like that second analog "stick" is a perfect encapsulation of Nintendo's problems.
Most gamers don't want a second stick. Given that most portable gamers seem to be happy with no sticks at all, the number who feel a second stick is a significant improvement represent a distinct minority.
But of those who do want a second stick, what they've created will be entirely unsatisfactory. They want two built in, full analog sticks similar to the Vita, not two slide pads which are asymmetric both in position and in shape, giving a tiny nub on the right hand side.
In short: it's not good enough for the "core," but superfluous for the casuals, at least in the west. Nintendo keeps making decisions like that.
No, they didn't make the screens smaller.Need to know if pixel density is increased for these new models.
They aren't dropping 3DS support. God damn are the knee-jerk reactions in here bad.Traditionally systems have been supported for 5 years if not longer. 3 years is bullshit and is a total abandonment of the existing user base. Nope, it's reduced. Imagine that!Need to know if pixel density is increased for these new models.

They would've mentioned it in the opener, I think.
I'm really stuck on this 'It's the new Gamepad' theory, though. I can't think of any other reason to add all those buttons and NFC. Should I make a thread about it? Don't wanna be eaten

I feel like that second analog "stick" is a perfect encapsulation of Nintendo's present problem where their hardware isn't sufficient for the "core" but also not suitable for casuals.
Not enough for the "core" gamers who aren't already on board, too much for the casuals who would be fine without an analog stick entirely.
Exclusive games means they obsoleted the 3DS to me. I know games will still come out for 3DS but not all games will be playable on it and I'm not buying new hardware so I'm not supporting this move.Huh? They're not dropping support of the 3DS. You should look at this as 3DSi, or 3DS Color. Some exclusive stuff will be there, but the majority will work on both. They're not abandoning anybody. If anything, this shows they want to keep this platform going for a least another couple years.

If I recall, people made jokes about Apple doing it as well, so I fail to see your point.![]()
Seriously people
This would make it a day one purchase for me.Ok, so...anyone with comprehension of Japanese who can see if, during the Direct, Iwata actually mentioned the lack of the region lock? It was mentioned earlier, but maybe it was a joke or a prank, it's difficult to believe a change of spirit like this.
