Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

I really hope so. It's sad how few people (Nintendo fans included) played the original (which is also partly NOA's fault, I know)...

I would say mainly.
All of that work just to get it over here and for it to be a limited release hurt any chance of it being really big over here.

So does Shulk really have a British accent? Sounds like something else.
Sounds like it is, but not quite as noticeable as his Xenoblade lines.

Still, I'm super glad they kept the accent. Xenoblade better always have VA with English accents, that's now part of the universe to me. (Though I'm guessing X already doesn't.)

Definitely.
Wasn't Marth and Roy in melee a big reason the FE series got bigger over here.

It was the main reason the games came over here period.

FE7 was built as a primer for international audiences in mind and it was successful.

Unfortunately the games after that didn't do super great until Awakening.

Well their inclusion had to at least factor into us actually getting the series though right?
I think it definitely was, yeah.

So FE was a lot bigger here after Marth and Roy came out than before. After they were in Melee we actually got 7-Awakening. Without them in Melee, probably would have taken longer.

The punches seem odd, but otherwise it looks fine.

I would have liked more customization options overall, though. My Shulk used glasses for most of the game so it's odd seeing him in his default clothes while my ending Shulk was wearing sunglasses and gold armor.

My Shulk exclusively ran with goggles; even if they were inferior pieces of armor!

You have my beautiful OG white 3DS <3

I can't wait to see Smash on that glorious screen again (for Nintendo standards).

I remember playing on the OG 3DS at HyperJapan and walking away so pleased that the game isn't "too small" to enjoy.

I honestly cannot wait for the New 3DS. The screen is 20% bigger than the OG 3DS. That's just enough for me without the huge loss in pixel density, which I've always hated about my XL. Everything looks like a jagged mess, but I think the OG 3DS isn't big enough.

New 3DS? Life is good. I can't even wait. But it sounds like it's really far away. Has any of the data from the New XL said anything about pixel density?

You can't be sure. They're obviously aware of fan reactions to the first game, and the British voice cast was a popular aspect. Even if certain characters have to be American for plot reasons, I don't think it's definite they'd abandon non-American voice acting for every character in the game.

well yes, but I'm saying it didn't lead to a sudden explosion in sales for the games after FE7 (case in point: Ike's games, both of which bombed)

Ahh ok. Well at least they hit it big with Awakening.

sup guise i totes has the game

New 3DS would be great, but no way I'm affording one of those.

OG 3DS will suffice.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I -love- Shulk's voice. I mean, it's all new to me, I never played Xenoblade before, but I immediately liked Shulk's character on seeing how he's depicted here and hearing his very chipper voice. Adds a lot of personality to his character and makes him feel even more unique, as though the snazzy clothes and surfer hair and transforming laser-sword weren't enough. :-)

Wonder what the rough order of the unlockbles are if that's the starting roster. I know it varies but I think Ness, Wario and Dr. Mario will be unlocked near the start while R.O.B, Game & Watch and Duck Hunt will be at the end.

Imagine the Ice Climbers as exclusive DLC for new 3DS owners.

How does that work if you're playing against a non-new-3DS user? Can you not?

Is the theory that as long as there aren't 4 ice climbers on screen, game is fine, so if one of them is an original 3DS user, they can't use it, so it's fine?

But if you have 4 new 3DSes, then 4 ice climbers are possible?

It'd probably prevent anyone without the DLC from playing with those that do, as with the MK8 tracks. And as seen by the New 3DS' existence, Nintendo's not afraid to fragment the user base.

Imagine not being to play with 95% of the people online.

Good fun it seems.

Not that exclusive character DLC for the new 3DS isn't a bogus idea, but why would that prevent you from playing with people online? Is there some reason the game wouldn't let you play against a character you don't have on your own system?

If 3DS can't handle Ice Climbers, how the fuck would it handle them in multiplayer if they're being used by a N3DS player?

Makes no sense.

If IC and a Rhythm Haven character aren't in, the Smash Run enemies lead me to believe they were cut extremely late in development, and because of that, probably have a good chance of being restored with DLC or a patch or something.

Assuming that they were exclusive to the new 3DS because the regular 3DS couldn't handle having both characters on screen at once. Wouldn't that mean that when you play a game on the regular 3DS against someone who has Ice climbers that your game will slow down because it can't process Ice Climbers as fast as the new 3DS?

This is what I think about. Is there any reason NOT to make DLC characters that didn't make it in by launch?

So there's never been a case of enemies with no character to rep them?

Nope, every enemy has a character to go with it, if you consider Miis the character for the Find Mii enemies.

The obviously wouldn't count Miis as 3 characters, because they said over 40, not over 50.

They've always counted the roster in terms of move sets, not roster slots. Pokemon Trainer was 3 characters

The whole idea around this thing is that Ice Climbers would be exclusive to the new 3DS because the increased power allows them to run on the system properly.

So people wouldn't be allowed to play against others using ice climbers due to the fact that their system can't actually support the character.

That said, all the AI calculations should be done client side and sent to the server, back to the other player, so surely the fact that those calculations that make it too intensive aren't being calculated would mean it would be fine?

Idk, this is a silly conversation honestly.

Ice Climbers are obviously going to be WiiU exclusive!
Fuck you, roster parity

Not yet, anyway. If IC and RH end up without playable characters, that'll be it.

The streetpass games are kinda a special case, but we can probably lump all of those into an overarching "Mii" series.

Nah, Star KO.

Having Ice Climbers be N3DS exclusive would be a good way to have them on the WiiU while technically fitting the "same roster on each version" rule.

So what you're all saying is that...there would not be two but three versions of the game when all is said and done if DLC exclusivity happens.

Yeah I don't see that happening.

Ah, I didn't realize this new 3DS was actually a new system - I thought everyone was just talking about a Smash edition of the same old 3DS. This is what happens when I miss the news as it breaks.
