Xenoblade announced for New 3DS

ehhh, I've been playing it on Wii and I think this type of massive open world game is better on the big screen anyway. Still, great news for anyone that hasn't been able to play it until now. It's great so far.

Wow.

Not even worth it just to buy a new system.

Rather play or emulate the wii version than this or wait for nintendo's next "portable" in another 3 years.

Talk about screwing over the current userbase - this is what happens when there is a monopoly in a market -.-
The game wouldn't be possible on the 3DS, so if you don't want to buy the New 3DS for this then don't. Just pretend it doesn't exist and it will be exactly the same as if it wasn't a N3DS exclusive.

I'm pretty excited by this, most of my gaming time is now done at work and having a 100+ hour RPG is awesome.

Part of me wishes they would have held off until the launch of their next handheld though. They could have done a port with a solid 30fps and maybe improved character models or something.

They still could have made a Xenoblade game for 3DS, just maybe smaller scale...maybe cel shaded, utilizing the smash 3DS models. Or, I dunno, they could have ported Baten Kaitos. Have the Xeno-series be their flagship RPG for consoles and Baten Kaitos be that for their handhelds.

Games with this much grinding and repetition are so much better on a small screen with sleep mode, for me. And no Wii motes, no running out of batteries ...

Last I checked VITA exists and it isn't a monopoly. Also noone is forcing you to buy the new 3DS for this game. It also exists on Wii if you really want to play it, and if you don't have a Wii you can also buy the game, rip it and play it on Dolphin PC. I guess that Gameboy Color must have been screwing over the userbase also...

Tempting. Kinda glad this isn't coming out till next year in the US so I can try to finish my wii copy and not be as tempted when this comes out (portable would make this game so much more convenient)

Of course it is. The only reason it's there is to entice people to buy their unattractive hardware revision, not to actually improve the game or get closer to the developer's original vision or anything.

Yep... this must be it. Nintendo surely doesn't want to attract people to it's failing flagship console, but would instead rather divert all possible sales to a minor revision of their portable lineup.

Sometimes I think people want to be offended so much, they literally have to invent NEW reasons when there is already a sufficient amount of things to be upset about.

Loved the original and would buy again...but not sure about having to buy a new 3DS to do so. Is this OFFICIALLY confirmed by Nintedo yet?

Please don't tell me this is what Honne has been working on =/

This just makes me want Baten Kaitos on 3DS now. Nintendo, please.

I thought they've been working on a 3DS title for a while, based on all those job postings for artists and programmers, etc.

I don't think they needed to hire any new artists for a port, but yeah, I'd like to see what they've been working on soon.

I personally don't see what the problem is if the games would simply not be possible on the original hardware. Instead of thinking of it as a redesign think of it an entirely new hardware generation (with perfect backwards compatibility). I don't think anyone here would expect WiiU games to run on the original wii. I agree its a stupid half step, it would have been great to see more changes but it's nothing to get so upset about. I'm just going to treat it like any other console. If has enough exclusives that i want, i will buy it.

btw

Whoever is naming nintendo consoles recently needs to be stopped

DS to 3DS was just enough of a change
Wii to WiiiU was confusing
now 3ds to to new 3ds is the worst one yet

Why should I think of it as a new hardware generation when it's not? So I can justify buying a poorly designed Nintendo product to myself?

Not necessarily just this game but what other games could be exclusive to it? If they are all ports of GameCube or wii games I am fine but a new game entirely would be a slap to a fan base that had a hold of the system since 2011...

Anyways hopefully they won't alienate the current fan base TOO much.

Just realized xenoblade in stereo 3D! Thats sounds sort of enticing with how epic the scenery is. I probalbly wont be getting this new 3DS though, unless I have too much money to burn. Havent touched my XL in months.

They're diverting resources away from their failing home console to get more 3DS sales from pre-existing 3DS owners, yes. You really think a game as niche as Xenoblade wasn't ported to capitalize on the fans that already own a 3DS?

Is there some wealth of hardcore Nintendo/JRPG fans that don't already have 3DS's that I just haven't heard of?

lol

You guys are sad. We're just happy we get to buy an improved 3DS. Why would we even need to "defend" great news?

You won't see me crying every time Apple announces a new iPhone either.

It doesn't work for you because you don't want it to.

New stuff will get released and old stuff will get old and become useless.

Get over it.

Okay Brazil I am going to help you out here.

A new iPhone comes out every September.
However, just because there is a new model doesn't make your older model obsolete
in any way. For instance Bioshock just released on the app store and is still compatible with a iPhone 3GS a phone almost 5 years old.

iOS 7 still works on a Iphone 4.

The iPhone and smartphones in general are in the unique position of being a product that aids you in your day to day life. Upgrades are ways of streamlining your work and daily activities.

Game systems are nothing like that at all. They don't even begin to occupy the same mindshare.

I know your fond of this argument Brazil so I don't want you to miss it.

Meh. As someone who doesn't play a handheld on the go all that much, a downport like this isn't at all more appealing than the original version. I wasn't wild about the idea of Donkey Kong Country Returns on the 3DS, either

Seeing how thin Nintendo is spread between Wii U and 3DS, this may be the case. If they can source outside help to port existing games, that are known for their quality with ease, this may be how Nintendo rides out the next couple years. A few new interesting properties here and there, along with a slew of GCN/Wii ports and indie games (if the boost in power leads to Unity support.)

There are still games that wont run on older iPhone revisions though, but not the majority. How is that different than what's happening here? :P

I got this feeling that it won't support 3D.

Dude, the 3DS is almost 4 years old. Try to use an iPad from 4 years ago with the meatier games on iOS. Even Hearthstone has trouble working right.

But it works, for one, and there's already several actual meaningful upgrades available to consumers looking for a better iPad.

You might have a point if Apple had just announced an iPad 1.5 that was weaker than an iPhone 4.

What do you mean?
I guess it's different because there are new iPads every year. I just don't really see why people are so upset. Nintendo has done this before. They aren't forcing you to buy it.

Everybody asked for an HD remaster, we're getting an ugly downgrade that locks out every current Nintendo hardware owner.

Nice move Nintendo...

I'm an original 3DS owner. I don't feel screwed. I can certainly understand that feeling if Nintendo stops developing for the thing three years into its life cycle, but I don't think they're there yet. They've announced one *New* exclusive game. If Xenoblade needed to be compromised as much as it appears to to be released on their *New* model, I shudder to think what it would look like on my old one. I highly doubt they're done making games that run on the older model, but this one, I think, was out of reach.

Yup. And an adaptable 3D affect that tracks the viewers eyes to line up the image, even when not viewing the screen head on. Pretty neat stuff.

Yes. I am too an original 3DS owner and not feeling screwed. I also have been keen to play the original Xenoblade and would love to see it in 3D. The new 3DS would be perfect for anyone that have been thinking about getting a 3DS so why not get the newest and shiniest one? Day one for me? Most likely not since my current one is still pretty sturdy, but as time goes by, of course I will replace it with the shinier one.

Adaptable 3D? Wow! Don't take a nasty fall there my good ol' original 3DS.
Any word that the New 3DS will upscale (or whatever it's called) the graphics for DS games? I imagine it will still play them...

Game made for 3DS...but doesn't work on 45 million current 3DS systems. Yeah, this won't confuse anyone next year...

Same type of business and marketing follies that afflicted the Wii U.

Why should I think of it as a new hardware generation when it's not? So I can justify buying a poorly designed Nintendo product to myself?

Because in a way it is. It's the most minor generation leap ever i can think of but the new console is still capable doing things the old console could not and no one is forcing you to buy it. Like i said before IF it has enough exclusives then you can justify buying it. However if nintendo decide to make games exclusive that could have been done on the OG 3ds, then nintendo can go F*** themselves.

The exclusive complaints are a Mountain out of a molehill. Chances are this Wii port is going to be the most compelling exclusive.

Like there were two "classes" of Game Boy users and two "classes" of DS users.

Either buy in or enjoy exclusive content years later. I bought in on GBC (for the reason of an action replay cart not fitting the brick) but ignored DSi.

Pretty much this. It's like DSi, guys. Either buy it now to enjoy the exclusives NOW or wait for the true generational leap and then enjoy those new 3DS exclusives as well as the new gen games too. Your choice (I think I'll wait)
