I am totally confused. Few days ago I wanted to buy 2/3DS. Now I don't havy any idea what to do. New consoles, new gpu, second stick. What the hell is going on!?
If I buy 2/3DS now, probably I can't play in new games on...old 3DS. Maybe Xenoblade is only one exception, but I think in next years Nintendo will announce only games on N3DS. Completely strange and mess for me.

You should probably just wait. I don't think this is as big a bump as some people, but wait-and-see is usually a good approach.
We also don't know if this is ever going to come to the west. I assume it will, but the market in Japan is pretty different and it's really weird of them to only announce for Japan today. If we get confirmation that this is never coming here, it'd be an all clear to buy the original XL.

The dsi also had improved specs same as the nu3ds yet it never got graphically intensive core games as exclusives. Nintendo is not going to abandon the millions of people who already bought a 3ds. At best get the nu3ds will receive ports and small eshop titles as exclusives.
The game is built around the way it controls, the only other input methods that would keep the gameplay intact would be a Wii remote, mouse or a fucking trackball. Having the gameplay degraded to the point where standard controls could've worked would have left the game significantly less appealing.
It would be like asking pro-Dota players to play with a PS1 controller. Or competitive Smash players to put up with a Wii remote + nunchuk. I picked it up in about 15 minutes and I'm hardly Jimmy off the Wizard. If you're not going to sell the game, I would consider putting in more effort to learn the controls.
I have a friend that doesn't have a 3ds yet that absolutely wants to play Smash 3ds in October. Honestly, this is kind of a shit situation for those that were going to jump in for Smash. I don't understand why Nintendo didn't plan this out so the NA release was during the Smash release.
I almost think he should just get a cheap 2ds, since there is no point getting a 3ds at this point (and 2ds is at least substantially cheaper, and you can get it for even lower with 2nd hand market).

I actually hope they patch in DA controls for Kid Icarus. If only to prove how antiquated they feel compared to the scheme they have set up for it now.

I played the hell out of the game without the stand, and had no problem. Controls took some time to adjust to, but I'm awesome at them now.

It's not a new system, it's a mid-cycle upgrade. It actually is what people thought 3DS was (or Wii U for that matter).

I may have come off more annoyed than I actually am. The negative reaction to this mainly made me feel vaguely disappointed, but the announcement itself is rather exciting!
It just feels like an odd and somewhat petty thing to get upset about. So Nintendo should just not be allowed to do anything new with their handhelds until the end of their lives because it makes you feel insecure in your purchase? Just ignore it if so, the exclusive games wouldn't have existed anyway in your 1 version of hardware timeline.

Call me crazy, but as someone who skipped Pokémon X/Y with a mind toward eventually picking up Z, I get the sense that Z is a probable candidate for pushing the New 3DS. It might be too big a title to drop the existing 3DS install base, but as a third-entry upgrade in a Pokémon line already saturated on the old system, I wouldn't rule it out either, especially as one of the common complaints I heard about X/Y was its graphical performance (frame drops galore).

SMH at the people defending the controls in Kid Icarus. I had no problem holding the 3DS in my left and using my right hand to aim, but there is no way to defend the fact the game shipped with a stand because the devs realized that you might need to put it on a table in order to get better "traction". It has nothing to do with someone's ability or lack of one to hold a 3DS. Most ridiculous shit I've heard all day.

Doubt Majora's Mask would be a New 3DS exclusive. Grezzo did a great job with Ocarina of Time 3D with the old hardware, so just give them the port/upgrade job again and we should easily have a 3D Majora's Mask remake that'd be compatible across the board.

GBC came out 8 years later, it was basically a brand new console. DSi is nothing like this, the "exclusives" it had could be largely ignored by the gaming public.
Xenoblade is already a bigger exclusive than anything dsi had. This is the equivalent of the 32x NOT a DSi.
This is spiltting the user base, which I guess to gaf is a no no to everyone but Nintendo. Maybe I am totally wrong and they just massively upgraded the specs to never make a good exclusive for the system, but sorry I am not that optimistic.

Im hoping its just ports, i love Xenoblade,nice that its portable now but i already played the Wii versión and i dont think the 3DS or new its going to be the best system for it, should have waited for the 3DS true successor imo.
It's a port of a four year old game, how is this any important or big? I mean it's not even really exclusive in the purest sense of the word.
And you would never be able to play it on your current 3DS anyway. Doesn't matter whether or not the New 3DS exists.

I think its going to be kinda like the Dsi,just more realized,but not a true platform, just something in between the 3DS and their next handheld
Just be able to browse Miiverse/eShop/normal interface etc. much faster is a huge plus.
The DSi was also faster than the DS and there were games that only used some enhanced features but could still be played on all NDS handhelds. Nintendo will bring all the big guns to all 3DS, I am sure. It would be suicidal from them otherwise.
Let's wait and see what kind of games the New 3DS exlusives are going to be. I bet most of them are ports from GC or Wii or for other reasons rather unimportant.
While I fully agree that Xenoblade is bigger than any exclusive support that DSi got, it's still a port of a four-year-old game, one that's fairly niche relative to other Nintendo IPs. So no, I'm not convinced that this is a GBC situation.
