Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

While he was my most unwanted character, I hate to admit that Shulk seems fun to play as.
At least he has a better alt than his ugly ass clothes! (yes, any alt is better than his default.)

I wonder if we'll see Neiteio filling the next 100 pages with pics of Shulk's crocs :p

My current theory, if Polar Bear and Sneaky Spirit are still in but Ice Climbers and Chorus Men are not, is that at one point, Sakurai had designs to try and incorporate Ice Climbers and Chorus Men, but when those multi-man characters proved too much for the 3DS to handle at 60 fps, they were axed but their Smash Run enemies were retained.

Agree with this 100%

Also I'd like to throw this out

If you had the option to completely axe the 3ds version , and instead move all its new and retro stages to the wiiu version and get another 5-10 characters on the roster would you?

Yeah, I probably would. But as it stands I'm fine with the 3DS version existing, and I'll definitely enjoy having Smash as a portable option.

Revven you said VGBC were invited to the media event right?

Will the best place to go for impressions be their twitter or something? I doubt a video will be out in a timely fashion and I need to hear what they think about the game more than anyone else.

Absolutely without question. I'm not buying the 3DS version anyway.

This seems fairly significant...can anyone here read Japanese?

We may already have the final roster, guys.

That's what I thought. I'm content with it, especially if that means we're getting DLC in the future.

My top five picks for DLC would be Dixie, Chibi-Robo, Wonder Red, Splatoon Boy/Girl, and Mewtwo.

Amen. I was convinced that the stage select leak was incomplete, but now that the character select is most likely complete...

The worst part is that the Wii U version is supposed to have the same number of stages, leaving both versions with fewer stages than brawl and by far fewer new stages. Its so weird, just a few more stages on the 3DS version would've made things fine (original stage for starfox, metroid, DK and maybe one or two more) but right now its the only thing about the games that I'm truly disappointed about. At the very least, the 3DS should've gotten scaled-down versions of Pyrosphere and Great Fox if they couldn't be arsed to make handheld based ones.

I don't think that they ever said the numbers of stages would be same in both version. I know they already emphasized that roster will be same in both version.

Do we know that the leaked stage select screen contains all the stages? I still find it baffling that some franchises don't get even one new stage.

The Year of Luigi will never end.

I would imagine that it might be easier to port old stages over to both version, plus its easier to give the franchise the old series since they are more likely have to worker harder on Stages for Wii U due to few reasons. Also I would like to have most of series reflecting on old games too. I don't want too many stages that would based on recent games' locations.

I still don't think enemy presence in Smash Run ever correlated to character presence in the game.
That might be true, but you'd think out of the 70+ enemies we've seen so far that more than two of them would come from unrepresented franchises. It just seems weirdly convenient that one hails from Ice Climber (a two-time Smash veteran) and the other from Rhythm Heaven (as mentioned in the Gematsu leaks).

Yep.

no question.

nintendo hand helds are my pokeman machines

well no technically Shulk is perfectly fine,
because the Monado can't hurt a being born of Bionis, which no other character is (because different game universes)
:P

I thought it was more specific. I don't remember how the wording in the game is so that could be a sufficient loophole.

I have no idea how they're going to cover it, GimR never said. :(

Or if he'll even get a chance to get something out today about it.

Wait, where did you hear that the Wii U version is going to have the same number of stages as the 3DS version?

That would incredibly disappointing...especially when you consider almost a third of the stages in the 3DS version are from Melee/Brawl.

Absolutely. Heck, I'd probably axe just for the satisfaction of being more excited about the game at the actual launch of the real version. Or just to have all the stages in one place. 5-10 extra characters though? It's not even a question at that point.

Last time I checked nobody else on the roster is a "Person of Bionis".

Shulk vs Shulk matches are banned for excessive stalling confirmed

I'm soooooo excited for Shulk now.

Have a few questions:

1- Should I buy Xenoblade in Wii or wait and buy it for the new 3DS?
2-Are Dunban and Rikki party members in the game?
3-Who's that at the end of his trailer? The antagonist of the game? A spoiler I shouldn't know about?

Also I find it funny that Link is in the trailer and yet he isn't in the promo art while Kirby and Pit are lol Sakurai bias

This would be a cool thing (as I sit hear daydreaming for the long weekend).

Reggie gets on stage at PAX:

"Remember when we said Smash for Wii U would be out by Holiday 2014...we meant...Labor Day." *Appears on EShop*

Smash represents a lot of Nintendo franchises. I feel like this is a case of people making an association in their head and thus it has to be disproven before proven.

1: probably just get the wii version who knows when we'll see the 3ds version in the us

2: yes and two of the best imo

3: major antagonist, knowing he exist isn't really a spoiler, looking up who he is will lead to spoilers though

1. We're not sure if the new 3DS version adds content or plays worse, so it's hard to say. I played 100 hours of Xenoblade upscaled on a 1080p TV because the Wii U's upscaler is actually pretty decent, so there's nothing wrong with that version.

2. Yes.

3. It is a major villain of the game, yes. You meet him early.

Yeah, I would imagine that it did happened however it suck to see unique characters being gone. I have a good idea what original roster would look like. Check my old post.

I think it makes sense too. Dr. Mario at first seems like a really odd choice to bring back from Melee, but with the justification Sakurai gave to Lucina and the fact that Gematsu and Smash Run (Sneaky Spirit, Polar Bears) seem to indicate that those two characters were decided, but probably cut because of technical issues, it'd make sense to pad out the roster with those 3 clones.

I now recall too that there was a Picture of the day that had the Polar Bear, but was taken down and replaced.

Hindsight hurts ;-;

Yeah, it suck but made sense at same time. Hopefully y'all would get them for DLC characters.

Speaking of Shulk in Smash ..::XENOBLADE SPOILERS::..
I wish they would have went with the Monado II instead of the Monado I, the Monado II looks soooooo much cooler. Maybe if we are lucky we could see it in an alt costume.

1. You should play it on the Wii now. If you plan on getting a new 3DS anyway, that might be cheaper, and will be portable. The Wii version will probably look better and control slightly better, but has the big advantage of being available now.
2. Yes
3. Yes, an antagonist from that game. It's not really a spoiler, you meet him early in the game. Just saying who he is isn't a spoiler or anything, though there are more details on him that you learn later that would be a spoiler. For now just know that it's some Xenoblade boss mechon.

Ya know I thought Sakurai stated that in the smash direct, but I just double checked and he doesn't say that. This gives me hope that they go all out with Wii U stages.

1. I would get the Wii version because its connected to a TV to help you get all "immersive" lol unless of course you don't care about that and want it on the go then go for that.
2. Yes.
3. And yeah, spoiler.

Well, I agree no one can say for sure one way or another whether these characters are all from the series of playable reps (or series that were intended to have playable reps), but I think someone can definitely comment on how it looks so far. And so far, certainly, the sheer quantity of characters that are from the series of playable reps makes it look more like a trend than not. But yes, of course, until we know the full roster of Smash Run enemies, we can't say for sure. :-)

Agree with this 100%

Also I'd like to throw this out

If I'm being selfish then I would take this since I'm a console guy for fighting games but I do enjoy handheld gaming occasionally like Kid Icarus, Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, Pokemon and other RPG.

But I'm not so I wouldn't because Japanese community depend on handheld economy due to a lot of communters. Also there are a good amount of people that are only playing 3DS. So it might be your best bet is DLC characters.
