PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | August 2014

I don't care why the PSP was successful and the Vita not, killing Vita means not giving a damn about all those people like me that believe in it and spent and keep spending lots of money on it, i know that situations are different but both Nintendo and MS did their best to keep their consoles alive, 3ds had an early price cut, Xb1 had a 180 + early price cut, and Nintendo bought or developed many exclusives for the Wiiu, i expected a lot more from Sony...
Sony doesn't have the money MS and especially Nintendo has. So they can't do deep price cuts as easily.

I love my vita and I keep buying the games that come out for it.

And I would buy a vita 2.0 if it had better controls, better resolution, better remote play and more power. In a heart beat and on day one.

I'm none too keen on 3DShin either. GBC was worthwhile because colour is a big selling point when you've previously been playing with that nasty GB screen. DSi has an online store but there isn't a lot of great things there. Wii Motion Plus is Wii Motion Plus. All of those were meant to extend the shelf-life of Nintendo's aged hardware, but they never got proper support because no one wanted to turn their back to the existing userbase.

I was hoping Nintendo would release a 3DS successor next year, but now there's no way they'll do that now I suppose. I don't want to play games on a 240p screen :/

It's possible they're gonna let the Wii U have a decent shelf life first and then make that rumoured console/handheld hybrid system.

This was something I've always wanted to asked VitaGAF, but never did because I thought it had a hint of doom and gloom. But now that Nintendo announced "New 3DS", I might as well do it.

Would you guys buy a Vita 2.0?

Better camera, higher performance microelectronics (CPU/GPU/Memory), better energy consumption, better OLED*. Perhaps, even better AR technology.
Yeah, I think AR is faaaaar far cooler than VR.

And can play PS2 games along with finally announcing an official grip to incorporate L2/R2 (L3/R3 can be touch screen).

*There was some news about PanaSony(Panasonic + Sony) giving up on OLEDs TV (I think), but came back a few months later to announce that they are now working on OLED ― except this time, small to medium size display only.

LET'S GET THIS OUT OF THE WAY: DON'T TALK ABOUT MEM CARD "ISSUES". It's been complained to death already.

Absolutely, but I'd worry about the fragmentation of the userbase (like 3DS/New 3DS). Being a proper sucessor would be preferrable to being just an upgrade.

People really want extra triggers?

ATX's idea of an add-on is better. Proper triggers would make the device bulky, and I wouldn't fancy replicating the New 3DS - triggers side by side? Oh yeah I'll love that when remote playing.

Yeah, but most of the time Vita is mentioned there is usually Cross-buy and/or a comma in front of it. At least they're still giving it ports.

Most of those titles are indies too. Unless the indie game you developed has some very specific controls only possible on the Vita, there's not much reason to keep it exclusive to the Vita when there's 10 million other customers you can reach (even if a good part of those 10 mil are all like "eff you sony I don't want this pixel crap wtf hurr durr").

What about support or advertising?
I don't care what but Sony should have done more.
I bought Vita at d1 and i will stick with it until the very end buying and playing everything i want for it, but after Vita i have finished with Sony if they don't do a 180 for Vita.

Lol "Don't talk about memory card issues". Sorry it's a massive deal. They are ridiculous. And on topic, if the New 3DS can switch to Micro SD, so can chuffing Sony.

Also, back from an 8 month ban... woo.

I don't think the "don't talk about memory cards" was because it wasn't a big deal, but instead because it is absolutely obvious that the proprietary memory cards are awful and that it should be microSD, so there is really no further discussion needed about it. In that it would in every case be a downside to stick with proprietary cards and in every case be a positive if they switched to microSD.

Nope, no way. The Vita was las straw of what I could take from Sony. Didn't matter all the mistakes they made before in my eyes, as they were negligible. Hell, I even rebought all my shit when I decided to change accounts by the time the PSN store finally arrivd in my country. But the way they've been treating the Vita, with no faith in their own lineup, absolutely zero mainstream presence at conferences, not even addressing some of it's long term problems like PSOne/PSP compatibility, and no signs of correcting this attitude anytime soon have made me sour of Sony, and I see no time when I'll be there supporting them with a new console or handheld again.

It didn't help that I am absolutely apathetic towards the PS4 catalog. Not even one title there made me bat an eye and think "this might look worth my time!" Sure, i might get a PS4 years and years down the road, when I can get it for like $30 with a box full of games (if even those still work without online authentication!). But right now, Sony can count me out of their current and future console and handheld projects for the long term future. I'll still support the Vita until the end of time, or when Sony decides to mercifully pull the plug on their end (I know third parties and indies will be more resilient to that) But as soon as that support dries up as well, and PSP/PSOne games stop coming to the Vita, I'm cutting my ties with Sony.

No, I wouldn't. I don't like revisions that fragmentate the userbase. I would buy a 100% new Vita, not a revision.

So are you guys saying if they made an absolutely perfect, no bullshit Vita successor with multiple IDs/region swapping on one ID, SD cards, clickable analogs and full first party support, you still wouldn't buy it unless they retroactively went back and fixed the Vita? So you're basically refusing to buy out of sheer spite, regardless of quality? I don't get that logic.

I don't buy hardware revisions, unless mine breaks or it is a gift. Period. I only buy new installments.

Its not that many of us want them to make the situation for the Vita better but more so that some don't trust Sony to make a handheld platform ever again :(.

Honestly, I love my Vita a lot (own over 150+ games for the thing) and it has the most play time out of all my systems (Wii and PS3). But, I would be lying if I said I wasn't upset at how Sony completely ignores there own platform in most of there major conferences and refuses to properly advertise it.

It isn't even like the system has no games, it has TONS of them coming :D! The issue is....Sony doesn't show that to people. They figure that people will find that out themselves, which is fine for many of us (as we find them out via PS Blog or here :D) but....what about the casual buyer, looking for a fun system to pick up?

How are they supposed to know, say what the many great indie games on the Vita are? The many digital only games on PSN (stuff like SAO: HF in NA/EU for example)? What PS1 and PSP games work on the thing?

Sony leaves a lot of that to the consumer.....and all they know is that "Oh, its that thing that plays PS4 games with the Internet. Cool :l". That is what Sony is trying to sell the system as now, not as a platform that can stand its ground...and that is just sad :(.

I would love a Vita 2 that has full controls and on-board storage....but I would be more hestent to pick that up. I know how Sony treats it handhelds now (and platforms in general; if they don't do well, they just give up on them :(), so....why would I bother giving them support for a platform, they themselves don't really care for :(....

If Sony intended on making a third handheld, they wouldn't have done what they've done to Vita. As such, this entire conversation is kind of pointless. You can't buy something that doesn't exist.

This just about mirrors my thoughts exactly. I remember all those Marcus PSP commercials. I can't remember the last PS3/PS4 commercial I saw. I rarely watch TV these days, but still. They seemed to just throw things out into the world, and then sit back to watch how it all unfolds.

I still have faith. Somewhere, deep down....I have hope they will wake up one day and turn it all around..

Edit: Late for this, but...
I just tested out Terraria and understand the music controls now so clearly Rogue Legacy doesn't support custom music at all :\
Am I reading this right, Terraria supports custom music?! It might be worth it to take the time to add some tunes to the card..

Its not a remote controller and should never be. This should never be on portable device and to be this bulky.

Just do what nintendo did with the new 3DS. I just need two extra shoulder buttons next to the current ones, they don't have to add bulk and be behind the current triggers. And for me, it is less about remote play and being a remote play machine, but more about all the PSone classics that would really benefit from a better L2/R2, even with the customization options for buttons currently with PSone classics.

L2/R2 buttons would be great for me, along with new L/R buttons in general. The current ones have a dodgy connection if you hold them at the edges (like I do, unless that's fixed in the 2000). Run being on the same button as Interact is a real pain.

I agree that they be standalone and attachable. Games should work without also and be able to change inputs for that.

Does anyone here know whether Disgaea 4 for Vita has appeared on the PSN or not? I have to say, SCEE has always some games delayed. Nisa, KT all have some weird things going on delaying the game while almost all indies manage to release on schedule. No other branch has these weird delays as far as I have experienced.

It's not on the norwegian store, and it wasn't mentioned that it would be up today on the last store update either:

Any videos of Vita on PAX Prime yet? I kind of want to see DR2, but not if they just pull the first case to showcase the PSTV. A false trial like the demo of the first DR to show would be ideal.

it's weird I got the code off my friend (probably got a promo code or something) and the game downloaded no problem, but Disgaea 4 is nowhere to be found on Eu PSN...

Why are my PS+ games expiring?

I'm playing X-com as we speak, and it's giving me a warning about my content is about to expire. The thing is, I'm subbed up for the foreseeable future.

does this have anything to do with Ddos attack?

It's just a bug, you need to 'refresh' the license by downloading the game again and cancelling.

Nothing on the German store as well.

Did Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus get an official date? I just got an email from Amazon that says the release date is now October 17.

Seems like I'll have more money for Vita games this year. Just cancelled a couple of 3DS games that I was planning on buying, only left 3 that are must buy for me: Smash, Fantasy Life and Pokemon OR.

Please visit blog.us.playstation.com and count the word Vita there. The system is seeing a ridiculous level of support for what it is.

I get that it's frustrating that it didn't become a huge hit that Sony flaunts about at every opportunity, but that's the reality of it.

What difference does support make? It's a hardware revision. Even if it were to fail and Sony stop making them super quickly it doesn't stop the benefits of the revision from existing. A Vita with secondary shoulder buttons or other benefits wouldn't disappear no matter what kind of support Sony give it. It's a revision, not a whole new system. It doesn't need support. It just needs to exist.

Also why can't you depend on Vita for portable gaming for the next couple years? There's fucking tons of games coming out. Check this thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=858508

Guys... Guise....

I love Vita. I'm not trading it in for New 3DS... But let's not lie to ourselves about it's fate over the next couple of years.

Vita 2.0 will not happen. If it does then I'll evaluate it's merits then.
If it did get announced SCEA would fart out a few thousand units and be done with it.

Am I reading this right, Terraria supports custom music?! It might be worth it to take the time to add some tunes to the card..

Yeah. And every sony published game on the vita supports custom music too, like Soul Sacrifice for example.

Just beat Danganronpa 2, and can honestly say it was better than the first.

Seriously guys, you need this game in your collection.

... Some of us have to wait for the street date. *sigh*

not a chance... been an owner of vita since launch, got the advance bundle with the case and everything. its prob the most disappointing console ive ever owned

launch started out great... wipeout, uncharted, metal gear collection, etc... but the number of titles i care about has dropped to 0. i was at target the other day trying to find a vita game to buy for a work trip and couldn't find one.

no issues with indies, i enjoy some of them, but don't want a console where there they are the main attraction, or the only content being made. prefer them on the side as they are typically shorter games

thankfully i got my crash games transferred over during the "glitch" where a bunch of ps1 games were allowed in north america (wtf was up with that), otherwise i wouldnt have turned it on for a while now

Who's lying? There's tons of game coming to Vita for the next couple years. The indie support is better than ever. Again, check out that thread. I have no illusions about major third party or first party support, but facts are facts. And the fact is tbe Vita has a fantastic upcoming lineup of games.

As for the Vita 2.0, it's a hypothetical discussion. Nobody is kidding themselves. We all know it isn't happening. Hypothetical discussion, nothing more.
