I would like to point out once again that the 3DS version was the original version of this game, and the Wii U version was added on later. So I don't see how it makes sense to say that the 3DS version is handicapping the Wii U when it was on the 3DS that this game got its start. It's not like Sakurai was lovingly crafting Ice Climbers on Smash for Wii U and suddenly said to himself, "hey, let's put this game on 3DS, too! Oh, IC's won't work on this system? Well, better get them off the Wii U, then!" If IC's are indeed gone, then Smash 4 as we know it would never have come out with them.

Has it been hard confirmed that ice climbers are cut? What am I missing?

I think people are assuming that because they weren't in the leak and weren't shown in this latest Direct, they're cut. Not an outrageous assumption, but it is a little premature.

There we go, fixed the wallpaper! So, while those question marks are quite as mysterious as they were pre-leak, it's still exciting to wait for official renders and trailers. And, at least for me, it's still crazy to see Shulk officially part of the Smash family. It truly is Shulk Time!

Oh, nice! Would love it in 1440x900 when it's done if possible :3 If not, then I understand, I can re-scale it a little myself. A version of the minimalistic one with just the smash-symbol would be cool on my Samsung Galaxy S5. I can most probably cut that one myself though.

Pyrosphere -> Ridley
Megaman stage -> Yellow Devil
Shulk stage -> Metalface
MAYBE a D.K. stage with King K. Rool, but that seems more of a long shot to me.

Both games started pre-production at the same time. It was "3DS first" only when it was a vague idea floating around in Sakurai's head during the development of Uprising.

I think over 40 is just referring to the launch roster. We will likely get a few more veterans and one more newcomer as the starting cast.

Rubbish. Sakurai outright said it was 3DS only until he saw the screen was a bit small and Iwata approached him on a Wii U version. Sakurai's main reason was that he felt Smash could no longer evolve on console.
