Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

I could change my opinion of this if Nintendo allowed me to link both my regular XL and this new one to my MyNintendo account. That way I don't have to choose and can use them for different games.

What are the chances of that? 0%?

I don't understand, so will they be making games that use the new buttons/sticks and therefore the previous 3DS users won't be able to play?

Most future games will likely be new 3DS enhanced, but there will be a couple of exclusives, just like with the DSi

There are already games that use these buttons and sticks with attachments, and the 3ds is able to play them without the attachment. They will be making games that use the better CPU and marginally less pitiful RAM supply that the 3ds won't be able to play, however.

The naming department at Nintendo needs to be fired or at least get new people in there with some ideas.

Truth.

Pretty unlikely, they probably will make it work for both versions. E.g. how you could play Resident Evil or Metal Gear Solid with and without the Circle Pad Add-On.

Probably not The New LL has all the ports in different places. Didn't the original Circle Pad Pro communicate with Infrared?

Damn, you are right. The infrared receiver on the New 3DS XL is placed a bit more inwards compared to the 3DS XL....

Well, hopefully the manufacturers of the MH4U Grip did consider this, because I REALLY want that Grip! Or maybe they will release an updated version alongside the MH4U release.

Sorry if it's been discussed ad nauseum but does the better hardware mean slightly better framerate for "old" 3DS games at all?

It's possible. Firmware update of last year Spring that unlocked a portion of OS reserved RAM for games resulted in a framerate boost in several games, most noticeable to me Mario 3D Land that went from sub 30 fps to never dipping under 30, and Castlevania that went from rather choppy to quite enjoyable (even if I dislike the game). I am not 100% sure about Starfox but I seem to remember some slowdown in certain points that now is gone.

Probably going to sell my OG 3DS, give my White XL to my little bro and buy the new 3DS...the small one! I'm getting ahead of myself tho...that's for 2015...Xenoblade would benefit from a larger screen tho...

Same here. If I could just download all my games onto the new system I am happy to buy again.

I know you can transfer, but having to 'move' all my games to the new system also means my old system is bye-bye and become useless.

That secondary analog nub looks so, so awkward.

Everything else sounds great, though. Hoping the eye-tracking 3D works well and in low light, and that it fixes the low volume problems of the first 3DS XL.

I really need to feel that secondary nub in my hands, though. Looks like it'd be painful to use for more than a minute at a time.

I think the 2nd analog thing is overblown. Unlike the left analog, you won't constantly have your thumb on the 2nd.

Edit: No 3rd party developer is going to make an exclusive for this thing. Support is already diminished thanks to mobile and developers aren't going to abandon 40 million devices to sell a Nintendo revision.

Well to put it in perspective the New LL costs 18800Yen which is around 180USD and the smaller New 3DS costs 16000Yen which is around 155USD however it's important to note that the OG 3DS costs 14286Yen which is around 140 USD and the old LL costs 18000Yen in Japan which is around 170USD.

The New 3DS's along with the old LL don't come with an AC adapter in Japan if I'm correct.

From the Media Create thread

Thanks. Sounds goood.

its more of a scroll point than a analog

if anyone has used one of these mice from long ago its similar. this was before mouse wheel.

honestly snes and gba vc could even happen on og 3ds there was never a technical block its really just up to nintendo honestly.

I think Nintendo just want perfect emulation. We got Ambassador GBA games on OG 3DS but not the best versions. Pretty sure one corrupt my SD Card lol. That's a story for another day tho.

i guess we now know how nintendo plans to reach their forecasts. would have been a good idea to have this ready in the us for smash bros. and amiibo.

going by history, it seems we are now 2-2.5 years away from a replacement system. going by what nintendo plans for their new hardware platform(s), i think it means the wii u will last until at least 2017.

Has this gone up for preorder yet anywhere or am I going to have to wait until tomorrow?

I mean, I don't even think NA has an official release date. EU is said to be 2015. So I can't imagine it would go up for pre-order today or tomorrow. Unless you are talking about the JP model.

I just upgraded to a 3DSXL three weeks ago! Oh well I've got to 2015 to get over it. I also just finished a 200hr game of Xenoblade a few weeks ago.

Time to go back.

Dammit!!!

whoa, I was going to pick up my 3DS literally this weekend...I just made a thread asking for users's favorite RPG's...

Sheesh...I definitely think I'm going to be waiting now...I always hated 3DS hardware these updates look very sexy...

Back in the DS days I was all over the lite upgrade and even the DSi upgrade, but I feel meh about this. There's nothing out there that I'd be upgrading for. I haven't played my 3DS for months.

They could have at least named it Neo 3DS. Their naming decisions really are bad, recently^^
EDIT: Or 3DS Pro, 3DS Plus/+ or obviously 3DSi.

Oh man, the new 3DS (not XL) seems superior to the new XL, but I just can't go back to those small screens... And I want faceplates and colored buttons!

I don't understand why they made blue exclusive to the new 3DS LL and white exclusive to the new 3DS. I have a white 3DS LL and I quite like that colour for the hardware, I am not interested in changing to a *new* blue or black 3DS LL, and I am not interested in going back to the smaller screens of the 3DS. I normally buy new handheld hardware upgrades on launch, but I won't do so this time. I'm sure they'll make a white *new* 3DS LL eventually, but by that point I'm not sure I'll still be interested.

I feel you and I don't get why these differences between N3DS and N3DSXL exist.

Why does Nintendo keep messing with the location of the stylus silo in every DS/3DS iteration? Keep it on the back right of the system like the XL, it's the most natural and quickest position because your finger is already there! Having the stylus come out of the bottom in this new design is a terrible idea....
That's my only complaint. Back right side is the perfect spot

Includes:

- better 3D
- second stick
- NFC built-in
- coloured buttons
- more buttons
- better battery (up to 7h)
- now compatible with microSDCard
- you can back up data on your PC via wireless.
-browser improved, now works with HTML5
- CPU improved, makes browsing Miiverse / eShop much faster.
- you can switch designs now (covers)
- gyro sensor

Am I reading this correct and they didn't improve the quality of the 3d screen? Its like the biggest issue thats been needing to be fixed. If they improved the PPI or resolution I would actually use the 3d more or even play more games on it. The current screen just stinks unfortunately and a main reason I stopped using my 3ds

I want a white one with those colored buttons, but I want a 3DS LL... Why do they have to make it hard for me to choose!

They already mentioned better viewing angles.
