M2K and Mango are so good.

Captain Falcon is so good.

I really hope the captain is the hero smash deserves again in smash 4 and not the shit he was in Brawl.

The alternative should have been incongruous rosters between the two versions.

Instead, Sakurai basically made the decision to equalize the rosters so the 3DS version wouldn't seem inferior, yet he apparently wasn't bothered by the fact that he would be holding back the Wii U version in the process.

Blame this on Sakurai, not on the limitations of the 3DS.

Assuming that without a doubt that the 3DS version is why IC are cut, you are aware that in one scenario the 3DS version looks strictly inferior to most consumers and in another (the current one) the Wii U version doesn't look any worse? It's in Nintendo's best interest for both version to sell well. Putting exclusive characters on the Wii U version, at least near the launch window as DLC 6+ months down the line might change things, would be sending the 3DS version to die an early death.

I can understand your frustration, again assuming the 3DS is without a doubt the cause, but what you're arguing for doesn't make any business sense :/

The Avatar List

I've started this from the beginning, if you need to see the list. Just call for me. Although I don't have things updated on who is using what now, but I do have the original people who asked for them.

That hurts, it really does.

;_; I hope so.

The list isn't up to date, I'm missing from it (called Paper Mario) as well as a bunch of other guys who called dibs around my time.

Anyone knows if the "awards list" from Melee came back? The ones like "Face planter", "Power Shielder", etc. They were fun!

So who is everybody playing first when you get the game? Assuming the CSS on the japanese eshop page is the starting roster, I definitely plan on trying out shulk right away since I'd like to try maining him (probably will still play my old main toon link a lot, even if I really like Shulk though)

Always mario first as he is my main. Next will be mega man

If the starting CSS is the picture from the eShop? Pac-Man & Villager

Yeah i'll be more than likely gunning for Shulk if he is indeed a starter as well.
Since within my group of friends we all have one character that's basically ours and no one else's.
Shulk seems like he'll be that character for me this go around.

Then it's everyone's job to actually let me know. ;P

I'll update you right now.

Durden77 called Snake.
If you want me to go all the way back and get the post I can find it.
But I would like for you to take my word on it.

Mario due to tradition. (Kind of cheated as I technically played my first match as Little Mac during an event)

Mario vs Bowser, 5 stock match, Battlefield, Level 5, items on high to learn mechanics and to enjoy myself before attempting to master Mac.

Charizard/Rosalina/Palutena.
Still hard for me to know who I'll main.

Honestly, if Sakurai didn't think to just use Marshal instead of the Chorus Kids, it will inspire me to believe that there exists a kind of counter-balance in him

For every cool thing he does (Bowser Jr., Shulk, Robin, Little Mac), he shows that he really doesn't know how to get around certain design issues (Ridley, Ice Climbers, Chorus Kids).

Don't forget at one point in time, Diddy and Dixie were to be a tag team character. Yet, Dixie can't be her own character for some reason.

Villager! He's still the character I'm most excited to play as, all this time later. :)

Tanooki Marth looks fucking rediculous...but I can't wait to see everyone in Tanooki ears/tail.

Ike/Charizard/Meta Knight gonna look amazing i bet

Tail... on tail?

Another question: Which characters do you really like, but don't think you'll play as much? For me I'd say Megaman, since just based on videos and such I don't think he'd be a good match for how I like to play, though I'll definitely try him out. Also not sure if I'd really play Palutena much

If Shulk is a starting character, the first thing I plan on doing is running through Classic mode with him after getting a feel for his moveset first. If he's an unlockable then I'll go with either Mario or Pikachu first.

Probably Robin. But I also want to try Palutena and Shulk now :p

What's on the list?

I definitely want to try ZSS first. It's really great that she's a totally independent character now. I'll try the alt suits first, if they're not unlockable. :)

This leads to another question: Classic mode or group first? And if group, against CPUs, or will you have a friend to play with? I'm still not decided personally (Might try to coordinate a fight online with my brother depending on if he wants to and how he plans to get the game)

I'll be playing Little Mac for my first match. I love his playstyle and he's been my most requested character for a long time. Punch Out is my favorite NES game, can't wait.

The 3DS version is largely already viewed as the inferior version - irrespective of how similar the two games are in terms of content, the 3DS version was always going to be viewed as the lesser version.

They could have easily implemented differing rosters without having the 3DS version contain fewer characters. For example, technically complex characters such as the Chorus Kids and Ice Climbers could have been exclusive to the Wii U, while, say, Dr. Mario and Lucas could have been exclusive to the 3DS version. Both could have had the same roster size, but slightly different characters. As a result, the 3DS version wouldn't have felt quantitatively inferior in terms of the roster size.

Such a move could have actually incentivized more customers to purchase both versions, similar to how certain Pokemon are exclusive to a given version.

Honestly, though, I don't really care that the Ice Climbers are cut - what vexes me is Sakurai's consistent employment of backwards logic.

Villager. My main will still probably be Mr. Game and Watch though, but Villager looks too fun to not make as a secondary.
