Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

Am I reading this correct and they didn't improve the quality of the 3d screen? Its like the biggest issue thats been needing to be fixed. If they improved the PPI or resolution I would actually use the 3d more or even play more games on it. The current screen just stinks unfortunately and a main reason I stopped using my 3ds

Improving the resolution of the screen would make no difference at best if there was no software to utilize it. It also would have put them in a position to substantially upgrade the GPU, and I don't think Nintendo is positioning this device to be the iPhone 5 to OG's 4S, if you know what I'm saying.

"New" 3DS is a fine name since the old 3DS will be fazed out quite quickly. So, anyone asking will say "Do you have the new 3DS?" The answer will be "Yes" =P

Yeah I hear ya, its just a personal preference to me, after having a smartphone, tablet, playing with a vita, the screens on the 3ds just seem so archaic to me. I think I've just outgrown the cheaper construction of Nintendo handhelds. I know older software wouldn't look better but it would have been a nice step up if they were already beefing up the system a bit for newer games. But hey at least they finally acknowledged they needed another control stick no matter how small and insignificant they try to make it on the new model! :) So progress just baby step progress! lol

At least the regular screen is 20% bigger, so it won't be too small.
That is still too small for me when I'm used to XL :/ I cannot go back

Is the bottom better?

The OG 3DS stylus placement seems like it would be good for lefties but what do I know. Back right side is best for righting.
Totally missed they moved the stylus on these. God damn it. It's perfect on the current XL. Every other place is subpar

They could have at least named it Neo 3DS. Their naming decisions really are bad, recently^^
EDIT: Or 3DS Pro, 3DS Plus/+ or obviously 3DSi.

All of those suggestions are worse than simply "New 3DS" IMO. The best hing about this is that there is only one way of interpreting "New 3DS". Parents who go christmas shoping for their kids will immediately associate it with what it is: A "new" 3DS.

Wait. Do they only have faceplates for the small N3DS, not the N3DS XL? I'll definitely get the smaller one if that's the case. Hopefully, we see a ton of cheap faceplates come out of China; just like the PSP days.

I'm probably in the minority here, but the improved 3D viewing angles might be my favorite new feature.

I want a white one with those colored buttons, but I want a 3DS LL... Why do they have to make it hard for me to choose!

I know what you mean, but at least the letters on the New 3DS XL buttons are colored. I would have prefered full colored buttons, though.

What do you name the next revision or model of handheld after "New"?

New Nintendo 3DSx2? LOL

New New Nintendo 3DS

Super New Nintendo 3DS

It's just too bad the color schemes are different.
I want a black New 3DS XL, with fully colored ABXY buttons. But the only the small one seems to come in that configuration

Has there been any info about refresh rates being better?

I can't stand playing NES games on 3DS because everything is so blurry in motion.

Or maybe that's just a fault of the NES emulation on 3DS.

this is going to be nintendo running out the clock. you won't see any further revisions except maybe a new 2ds (where the 2d can be viewed from multiple angles).

It is :( Play 3D Classic Kirby's Adventure... that's how NES games should look on 3DS! (except for the 3D, obviously).

You really think that they will make a new 3DS revision after this one or that the new generation handheld will be even called "3DS"?

3DSi and 3DS+ are good alternatives IMO.

What would the "i" stand for? For the DSi it would stand for "eye" because it had a new camera and it made sense in that context.

3DS+ sounds like a really minor upgrade and that is not what Nintendo wants to market this revision as.

Still not a proper second circle pad? Oh well. I own a Thinkpad, so I'm looking forward to the cli... nippl... TrackPoint™-style pointer.
Faster Miiverse browsing is a dream and those faceplates look great.
Count me in.

Edit: Also, the "New"-Thing just werks. You can obviouskly only do it once, but it does a far better job conveying the Upgrade thing than the added U did.

There will be no other revision. The next handheld will have a completely new name because it will be the "3DS" system's full fledged successor. It will be Nintendo's next generation handheld.

My suggstions for the 4DS/next Nintendo handheld:

Nintendo GO!

Nintendo Nexxo

You joke, but I have to say, after I got a ThinkPad with an IPS display, I would appreciate if the 2d could be viewed from multiple angles ;-) (Oh and speaking of ThinkPads, that c-stick reminds me of the ThinkPad's trackpoint!)

IMPORTANT QUESTION PLEASE READ

Nintendo Support Site said:
•You can link one Wii U and one Nintendo 3DS (with a Nintendo Network account) to your Club Nintendo account. Additionally up to eight Nintendo 3DS family systems without a Nintendo Network account can be linked to your Club Nintendo account.

•Linking the Club Nintendo account to the Nintendo eShop automatically registers all Nintendo eShop purchases.
◦You cannot retroactively earn points for purchases made before the Club Nintendo account was linked to the Nintendo eShop.
I have a 3DSXL. Does this mean if I buy a N3DSXL that I can link both to my eShop library? Or is system transfer the only way?

I just realized they moved the headset jack back to the center. Nice.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to do a system transfer. They don't want people putting 8 copies of their games across 8 systems.

Will they stretch the screen for the new 3DS like they did with the 3DS XL to make the screen bigger? Or did they find another way to increase the screen size for new 3DS without stretching the screen and increasing jaggies?

even if ur account is linked system transfer is still required.

yes it stretches the same no ppi or resolution was increased.

What if they trade-in their old 3DS and ask for a new 3DS and they get a new 3DS instead of a "New 3DS", know what I mean? :D Ach, I don't know, we'll see. EDIT: In the end it comes down to good marketing (clear all the old revisions from the inventory to avoid more confusion, otherwise the Gamestop staff has to be on their toes to compensate).

Anyway, I'm gonna ask the question from my second last post again as I'm really interested if it could work:
Do you think they could make streaming from the Wii U to the n3DS possible thus using that as a Gamepad instead?
