PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | August 2014

Basically most indie devs on PS4 will chuck in a Vita port, because why not. And I will love it.

Plus, my most anticipated titles for the year aren't even out yet; Minecraft, Binding of Isaac, and Hotline Miami 2.

Western gamers get very few visual novels - I don't see how the visual novels being anime-based will even matter to them unless it heavily references show content they expect you to have seen. Most VNs are styled like anime anyways, so it's not like the Japanese style art is going to make them say "not for me" any more than the next VN would.

As long as the game is good, it'll sell just as well as any other visual novel does here - which is enough to justify the existence of a localization IMO

(speaking in general here btw, that DxD game is probably garbage like the anime - lol)
Just to clarify, there are generally two types of VNs. One type are original IPs written from the ground up which need to stand on their own merits to sell because there is no existing fanbase. If you hear about them it's usually because they're quite good and often even get anime adaptations themselves, such as Steins;Gate, Clannad, even Dangan Ronpa, etc. I think these will generally sell as well as a VN can if localized, regardless of audience.

The type of VN I am discussing and assumed antibolo was talking about yesterday are the other way around. VNs based off of an existing licensed anime are almost always intended to sell based off of appeal to existing fans alone. Their goal is to provide fanservice to sell to the existing fanbase, whether through pandering or "what if" story scenarios and are not targeting new players who are not familiar with the franchise. Games in this category include that HS DxD game, the nyaruko san, rozen maiden, and infinite stratos 2 VNs, to name a few on the Vita. These are almost always awful and not "good" in the sense of having a well written plot. I think these make very little sense from a localization standpoint.

Guys, does anybody know something about Forgotten Memories? Supposedly, it would be released on Vita and Wii u the first quarter of this year, but, well, that is long past and this news is from last year.
I do want a Non-PSX Survival Horror on Vita. And more SRPG using the touchscreen. And I'll never stop mentioning games that I want. :(

I need my female lead character! Although I have to say that I am really looking forward to Velocity 2 and this one.

So if I resub to PS+, will it charge me twice in the next week when the new games come out or just this time next month

I need the cloud save because I'm too poor for a 64GB card...

Who's lying? There's tons of game coming to Vita for the next couple years. The indie support is better than ever. Again, check out that thread. I have no illusions about major third party or first party support, but facts are facts. And the fact is tbe Vita has a fantastic upcoming lineup of games.

As for the Vita 2.0, it's a hypothetical discussion. Nobody is kidding themselves. We all know it isn't happening. Hypothetical discussion, nothing more.

Yeah man! there's at least four or five indie games coming I'm really excited for and about as many I'm on the fence about.

Looking forward to them

I just want to make sure. If I missed the
destruction orb in the temples of Valefor, Ifrit, Ixion and Shiva, I can still get it right? I will have to defeat the Dark Aeons. Or maybe not?

You will have to defeat the
Dark Aeon
to return to basically any temple I'm afraid. Which will unfortunately be harder without (summon spoiler)
anima

This was something I've always wanted to asked VitaGAF, but never did because I thought it had a hint of doom and gloom. But now that Nintendo announced "New 3DS", I might as well do it.

Would you guys buy a Vita 2.0?

Better camera, higher performance microelectronics (CPU/GPU/Memory), better energy consumption, better OLED*. Perhaps, even better AR technology.
Yeah, I think AR is faaaaar far cooler than VR.

And can play PS2 games along with finally announcing an official grip to incorporate L2/R2 (L3/R3 can be touch screen).

*There was some news about PanaSony(Panasonic + Sony) giving up on OLEDs TV (I think), but came back a few months later to announce that they are now working on OLED ― except this time, small to medium size display only.

LET'S GET THIS OUT OF THE WAY: DON'T TALK ABOUT MEM CARD "ISSUES". It's been complained to death already.

I feel like the Vita is already so well designed (spec wise), that I wouldn't want a Vita 2.0. I'm totally fine with the Slim model, or revisions that have better battery life or form factor. But if they are going to make major changes under the hood, then just make a new system.

Unlike the 3DS, I do think the Vita was built to last (for its lifespan). I don't feel it needs to be updated as often as 3DS needed it. Sadly, I kind of doubt we'll get another handheld after Vita. =/

I'd be up for some Lain bartending. Any idea if it'll be a full Vita game or PSM?

From their dev blog:
Have you ever thought “Hey! this game would be really nice in my fancy PS Vita!” — well, you’re in luck! VA-11 HALL-A is going PS Vita thanks to the folks at Wolfgame who will take care of the port shenanigans.

More details to come soon but what I can say right now is that we are going to take advantage of some of the Vita hardware for super cool (and optional) bartending gimmicks and features exclusive to this version.
So... maybe a full game? It doesn't seem like a PSM game.
They'll be showing it at PAX, anyway.

Oh, I almost forgot. I saw a Vita on the wild the other day, a young male was playing on it, but I was afraid of getting closer and ask him what he was playing. It was the first time that I saw one being played, actually.

I never see anyone playing a 3DS or a Vita out in the wild.
Usually it's just me. :(

I've lost count of 3DSes, saw many, many of those in the wild already. Public transport, malls, alongside friends, etc.

But Vita is very, very rare to see, at least where I am. Some friends of my friends used to ask me if that was a "PSP2" when I showed them mine.

I see them a good deal when me and my mom travel places :D.

I recall seeing Vita's in the wild (once was on a ride back from Lake Success; a mall area in Garden City, and another time was recent where we were traveling back from the city and I saw someone with a Vita playing (I think? The music sounded like it was FF) FFX or FFX-2).

3DS's are the most common though (I see them at least every other time I travel and they are very common in Adelphi :D).

I would bring my Vita out with me but it looks to 'fancy' (meaning, it makes you a great target X() and due to my case being to bulky to put in my pocket (it is the launch Vita hard case with the custom displays....have the Wipeout one on my case :D).

It is safer to play the system at home anyway :D. Between the battery life draining fast and the screen not being super great in the sun (even on max brightness, you can barely see anything on the OLED screen with its in the sun X(), its best to use it at home :).

Damnit, I bought another game.

TLOU_Fuck_Me_Sidewayssssssss.jpg

Well, at least you bought a great one :D. Never played Last of Us yet (waiting until I get a PS4 to play it; seems like the best way to play it) but everyone said it's really great, so enjoy it man :).

Just got SAO:HF myself a while ago (still downloading though.....3.0GB take a long time to download on Vita X(). With all the positivity the SAO thread had, I can't wait to dive into the games world when it downloads :).

Guys, Hyperdimension Neptunia crashed on me. Lost 5 hours of game time, because I was a dumbass and didn't save on my grind session. :( FUCK.

The plus side is I'm going to just play Danganropa so I can beat it in time for 2 on Tuesday. But I'm so sad. I don't think I have the will to beat Hyperdimension now.

My Danganronpa order has been shipped!

Still waiting here. I'll probably have to wait around 2 weeks before it's here, though. :(

IMO, it's better to force yourself through those portions of the game to make up for the lost time and start enjoying it again ASAP. I did that with Terraria, which I didn't know it had an autosave featura and lost around 2 1/2 hours of progress. I restarted immediately and covered more ground than the one I had lost. Still playing it today.

I saw someone with an ngage 6 months ago!

Usually I see people with vita and psp at my university. I am surprised I have not seen anyone with a 3ds!

Mine shipped too! Totally forgot it came with sunglasses lol.

Edit: Top of page. Play Neptunia Re;Birth1. Get hyped for Re;Birth2. Buy a PS3 to play Victory. Switch back to your Vita and hope Neptunia U and the Black Heart game get localized.
