Shulk Confirmed for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS

I've been wondering something about the end of the trailer (sorta Xenoblade spoilers):
Is that a new line from Metal Face or is it from Xenoblade? I rewatched all of the cutscenes where he talks and the closest I've found is him calling him "Monado brat".

I'm curious about that too. Some of Dunban's and Riki's lines sound recycled, but it's really hard to say. I'm just glad either way that they got the original voices back, I was feeling unsure if Nintendo would go through the trouble add they're already juggling Seattle, L.A., and Japanese voice actors.

It would make sense for that to be new dialogue, especially if
they brought in the VA to record lines for a new boss fight.
I suppose the alternative is
it's uncompressed dialogue that is intended to play over the Wii Remote speaker during one of the boss fights in the original game,
but I highly doubt that given the context. If it's not in any of the cutscenes, then it's probably new.

Shulk is one of the characters that I hoped would make it in, though I also figured they might recast to make things easier for Smash (as well as the characters from Chronicles X
possibly coming from America
). I'm glad to hear that's not the case!

Dunban's lines are taken directly from Xenoblade. Riki's "Get 'em Shulk!" and "Riki did that one for Dundun!" are new to me, but it could be locked behind high affinity and I've just never heard it.

Here is a tweet from Yuichio Takeda (one of Xenoblade's main scenario writers) regarding Shulk's reveal for Smashbros.

Shulk being a playable character in Smash Bros. is like a dream. For a day such as this to come where a character that I've given a name to is able to appear together with the likes of a bunch of well-regarded characters as Mario, Link, Pikachu, Kirby, Captain Falcon, Donkey Kong, Mega Man, Sonic, and so on...!

Riki's lines are likely new since he seems to be an AT as well.
Which makes Riki very happy!

It is super crazy! I've been hoping Shulk would be in Smash since it was announced, but I figured it wasn't going to happen.
The love that Xenoblade is getting from Nintendo makes me so damn happy!

I'm glad he is glad

Where's the bizarre Deviantart weight gain fetish alt?

I don't question why you have this, but why you share this -_-

AND GIVE REYN HIS CATCH PHRASE BACK SHULK. YOU FUCKING SHIT-ASS.

Oh please, after the Totally Platonic Bromantic Broventures of Shulk and Reyn, I think Reyn would be thrilled to hear Shulk using his catchphrase.

Shulk/Lucina OTP?

Tiny Space Zorro x Fem Marth or GTFO

Or have him be the rep, since he outclasses Shulk in every way.

TT__TT It hurts to hear the truth...

Yeah, a character with a sword? Totally out of place.
Random fact for you. Only 17% of the roster (providing the leaked roster is all we're getting) uses swords as their primary weapon. So basically there's no way there can be too many sword users in the game if less than 1/4 use them.

And don't bring up Pit, Dark Pit and Kirby.

You don't think:

Marth
Lucina
Ike
Robin
Link
Toon Link
Shulk
Mii Swordsman
Metaknight

Is a lot of sword users? Especially compared to the other weapons available:

Hammer (Dedede)
Arm Cannon (Samus, Megaman, Mii Gunner)
Bow/dual swords (Pit)
Wand (Palutena, Rosalina)

There are more sword users than all other weapons combined.

Is a lot of sword users? Not including Pit is being generous.

Not at all, even with pit and dark pit (assuming he's a straight up clone) is only 21% or 11 characters in a 51 roster game. You could easily go multiple battles without seeing a sword user. This whole "too many swordsman" complaint is dumb

Edit: and here are more fist fighters then there are any other weapon type lets complain about that instead :P

Besides outside of Fire Emblem what Nintendo propery has relevant characters who fight with a weapon besides a sword as their default?

Give Ganon his fucking trident.

Do we know the specifics of his Final Smash? Is it naive to hope that the other two party members will be randomly chosen every time?

The artwork for Shulk has me a bit worried since it only shows Dunban and Riki, but I think we'll end up seeing all of the characters. I'm curious
what form Fiora would take though.

Default white armor if I had to guess. They're probably past the point of pretending robo-Fiora isn't a thing.

Really wish they had made Monado Buster his Final Smash so I could possibly get Dunban as DLC. :(

Shulk is gonna be sweet. That counter looks like a lot of fun and the Monado switching might very well be viable for high-level play.

Current smash in tourneys? Aw yiss.

It would be amazing if 2 random party members would come, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Good point. Would be a shame if there was no Reyn time :(

That wasn't going to happen either way.

I'm so horrible at fighting games, but I'm still picking up Smash for just the soundtrack and inclusion of Fire Emblem & Xenoblade characters. Anything to make the wait for Chronicles X and Fire Emblem x SMT more bearable!

Smash is nothing like other fighting games. It's extremely approachable. Two buttons (normal attack and special attack), combined with a single direction on the control stick. Very easy to learn, and incredibly fun to play. You'll love it. :-)

That wasn't going to happen either way.

I wouldn't have thought so either, but if a popularity poll was how Riki and Dunban were picked out in the first place for the FS, I guess enough folks liked him to warrant consideration at the least.

Also,
Duck Hunt Dog
being a thing means stranger things could happen. XD

Hopefully Reyn is an assist trophy.

Man, it's just so crazy. If it wasn't for Operation Rainfall, Shulk could have ended up the same way as Marth and Roy for us NA players.

Now to see him in full Smash glory, along with all that Xenoblade content, brings a huge smile to my face. They even acknowledge one of the most popular memes. That trailer has everything you could ask for and more.

We may not have Shulk at all if it wasn't for things like Operation Rainfall. Xenoblade's success outside of Japan may have contribute to Nintendo acknowledging the series as an IP to maintain. I'm happy to see this. :)

Awesome! Happy for the dude. Hopefully this helps the Xenoblade franchise grow bigger worldwide.

Fun fact: Dunban is the only other party member that can use the Monado. Maybe there's still a chance...His character model does look pretty nice.

Well, technically
he lost that ability after the war when the Monado over-usage killed his right arm.

He never really lost it, he used it again a year later to protect colony 9 remember, it will just hurt him and thats only because he uses his right hand when he can just switch it up
