What college do you go to in order to get that degree?

I said I studied in it, not that I graduated in it. No wait, actually I did. T'was part of my philosophy certificate course. But that's not my degree.

And since I'd be real sad if it was just buried in the middle of the night, I'll just quote myself here. Click on it to see the craziest discourse SmashGAF ever brought!

TL : DR : Guesong goes the extra mile for WeekendSmashGAF.

I think we'll just get DLC. The Namco specialty.

Nintendo enter the game since a year if I remember, almost every company put DLC today, so talking about specialty I don't get it.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 => Free patch including characters
Naruto Ultimate Strorm => Free patch including characters too

It will be awesome to see Nintendo making free DLC and counting on Amiibo to make cash but with the MK8 leak it's seems DLC will not be free like they done with Fire Emblem Kakusei.

Isn't the CSS always fucked up until you unlock every character?
Ryce could explain this better but basically the characters in a CSS don't move, things just get added between them as characters unlock, and everything looks nice and makes sense when you finally get everyone. Things like Yoshi smack in the middle of the Mario chars, G&W in the top row with Mario and Mario spinoff characters, clones separated from everyone else, among other things - there's no way that these things can fix themselves naturally unless the CSS really makes no cohesive sense until everyone is unlocked and it just fixes itself. And that's if there are more characters to unlock beyond what was leaked.

Sorry if this post was hard to understand, I don't know hiw to properly explain this :/

Prediction Time:

Smash 4 3DS comes with no Ice Climbers, WiiU adds Ice Climbers

they then announce 'Super Smash Brothers for New 3DS' with Ice Climbers back in because of the increased power of the system

a brilliant plan with no chance of backfiring

You just want to see riots and 3DS's burned, don't you?

I think they might fix the CCS before it went gold. Is ESRB version outdated right?

I doubt the CSS will change much. Look back at the image I posted of the presumed starting roster and the leaked CSS. Shulk and all of the other characters are, for the most part, in the exact same positions. The only thing that does happen is the portraits shrink at some point and some get pushed to the right and into the next row as more characters are added. The one row that looks off is the fifth row, and my theory is, since the characters are composed of single series, that there is a singular series that will go in that row to complete it. What makes the most sense? Chorus Men. They'd fit right after Wii Fit Trainer, making the CSS symmetrical like how the "starting" roster appears.

I like Shulk's voice. It sounds kinda funny, in a good way. lol
Well, Shulk is basically a huge nerdy dork.

He might grow more serious over the course of the game, as being the sole being on Bionis able to wield the Monado without serious damage being done to his body is wont to do (note Dunban, the prior wielder of the Monado, can't use his right arm anymore), but he starts out a huge dork, and has plenty of really dorky lines throughout the game ("Piece of cake!"), so seeing his dorkiness carry over into Smash is seriously great.

Wait, why does everyone believe that's the final roster all of a sudden now?
Japanese commercial mentions more than 40 characters and the ESRB roster (including Miis as a single entity) is 49. If there were 50 or more characters the commercial probably would've reflected that but it's all conjecture at this point

I love that gif.

Shulk totally seems like a great character, I can relate to that kind of dorkiness. lol Makes me more anxious to play Xenoblade.

So Amiibos are dominating Amazon right now.

Holy shit they are. All of them are in the top 20 video game best sellers.

I think these things and DLC for their major titles (Kart, Smash) are going to make Nintendo a lot of money. The hardcore Nintendo fanbase has been waiting for this shit.

I hope we get more games with british voice acting.

It was so refreshing having british accents, rather than the usual nasally American rubbish.
I agree that it's refreshing to hear some British voices, but why call American voices rubbish? People don't like to have their accents insulted. Also, what's this nasally nonsense? Shulk's voice doesn't sound any more or less nasally than someone like Ike.

Incidentally, I can't wait for Quas-Quas to make the Shulk stained glass window. (I checked, he hasn't yet. He has apparently started work on the leaked characters, though.)

Probaby doesn't mention 50 because we won't get any reveals until launch and Sakurai wants to keep at least a little surprise.

So we will have some of the characters as unlockables... Again. I would have really loved if we can get the SSFIV approach and have all characters from the get go so we can train. I suspect the WiiU version will have everyone unlocked if you have the 3DS version with all characters unlocked.

Just to address a few points in your argument, I think we can all agree that the huge inflated sales of the first DKC had mostly to do with the spectacle of the pre-rendered graphics which helps explain the drop from DKC to DKC 2. As for DKC 3, it sounds like your trying to make the point that the lower sales are the result of a backlash towards the quality of the game, when really it was probably due to the fact that it released in November of 1996. This was the same Christmas where we saw Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot go head to head with revolutionary 3D gameplay on new hardware. All things considered, DKC 3 did pretty good for itself by selling nearly 2.9 million copies.

As for Donkey Kong 64, it sold around 3.8 million copies and was the 8th best selling N64 game. While it didn't reach DKC2's numbers, this was a good improvement from DKC3.

Regardless though, we are talking about a series that only ranks behind Mario, Pokemon, Wii _____ , and Zelda in terms of best selling Nintendo franchises. Its a huge accomplishment and the character is ingrained in pop culture between the classic arcade game and the DKC series, so I think this whole discussion is just the result of backlash to the series being low key in the Smash series.

That's possible too, I suppose. I'm keeping my expectations at the ESRB roster being the final one so I'm not disappointed if there's nothing more (and if it is the final roster, it's dang good aside from some really unfortunate cuts) but I'd love to see if there are any more characters beyond that. We shall see!

Well, think of it this way...

Back in June, I and many others probably thought all we had left was Chrom, Shulk, and Chorus Men.

Here is a tweet from Yuichio Takeda (one of Xenoblade's main scenario writers) regarding Shulk's reveal for Smashbros.

Shulk being a playable character in Smash Bros. is like a dream. For a day such as this to come where a character that I've given a name to is able to appear together with the likes of a bunch of well-regarded characters as Mario, Link, Pikachu, Kirby, Captain Falcon, Donkey Kong, Mega Man, Sonic, and so on...!
Awwww

Oh man, great to see Amiibos doing so well. I'm thinking of ordering a Mario one, but...I dunno. What's the general consensus around here on the prices?
