Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

I already own a LL and a regular, and I live in Japan.

Also you should check out the other threads on gaf or watch the Nintendo direct on the New 3DS.

Ahh thanks, didn't know you were in Japan. Was thinking I might be able to find a imported Japan one when I'm out of the US in Oct, but I don't want to get one if I can't use it in the US. Guess I'm waiting

Diddy Kong is a British creation, too.
I thought that was kind of implied by mentioning Donkey Kong :T
Wonder if we'll get the option to switch Shulk's voice from English to Japanese. I wouldn't mind since I love all of his English quotes, but it would be nice.
Off the top of my head, I hope all these end up in Smash some how:
- "I'm really feeling it!" (confirmed)
- "We can definitely do this!"
- "I'm ...sorry."
- "You're really getting into this Reyn" (for when the inevitable Reyn AT is used and Shulk's on the field)
- "Monaaaado, BUSTAH!"
- "I'LL KILLLLL YOOOOOOOUUUU!!!"

Guys, Ridley isn't in the All-Star screenshot because
Roidley in particular wasn't created until Other M's release. They aren't the same space dragon, and Ridley has had about a billion clones / parasitic offshoots / regenerated selves over the years.

One Ridley, A robot version and a clone iirc.

Ridley can eat flesh to regenerate I think.

The only people who would think that Shadow was a Ridley tease

1- Didn't play Xenoblade
2- Watched the trailer in Japanese
3- Forgot Ridley has never had dialogue in any game only in the comics OR interpreted Japanese dialogue as a roar

Nobody should have thought that was a Ridley tease outside of maybe the 1 second where the shadow appeared and the voice wasn't heard yet

I know you're joking (hopefully), but Link and Zelda are their Twilight Princess incarnations and are still considered to have debuted in 1986.

But Ridley isn't playable anyways.

So who was that at the end of the Shulk trailer? Some Xenoblade villain?

Shulk and Offscreen Villain sound like Luke Triton and Don Paolo

I still think people are jumping the gun on burying the veterans. Especially after reading that thread about Nintendo cutting content from Fantasy Life to push as day 1 DLC, I'm even more convinced they would do the same in order to motivate people to get both versions.

Wait which thread is this? Don't tell me Nintendo is jumping on that bandwagon?

I think Metal Face being teased with a shadow was a direct reference to people freaking out about the Ridley shadow. Whether it actually means anything in regards to Ridley as a boss obviously can't be known, but I do think that Sakurai was trying to poke fun with the Metal Face shadow.

Shulk isn't British made. Saying Shulk is British representation along side Donkey Kong and Diddy is like saying that the majority of the cast is American.

If you're going to be pedantic then I'll change my post to, 'Is this the first bit of British representation by way of a voice actor born in the British Isles, God Save The Queen, voicing the character in a Super Smash Brothers computer game.'

I know that the JRPG Xenoblade was not made in England, but it's english localisation is one it's best aspects.

Nice shout, the Super-FX chip guys were English right?
Yep. Argonaut Games. They also helped with X for the GameBoy so technically with the Tunnel tune in Brawl that's another reference to them (note that the composer is actually Kazumi Totaka so Japanese)

The character designs are all Japanese from Takaya Imamura (EAD).
Yeah, that's why I said it depends on how you view the series. Also Krystal, again, is a Rare design. So there's that.

I know Ridley's not playable, but it's worth noting that "Ridley" as we know him has actually been a bunch of different Ridleys over the years. Prime Ridley was a single Ridley (iirc) that kept getting mechanical repairs to keep him alive, there's Zero Mission Ridley that got killed and either replaced or got his consciousness dumped into Mecha Ridley in the Space Pirate Mothership, Super Metroid Ridley's debatably the Zero Mission one or a clone, Fusion introduces Ridley-X which is a genetically enhanced copy by the X Parasites, Roidley is a "new" Ridley that regenerates from a baby, etc.

On the flipside, Link and Zelda (and Ganondorf?) are representing their incarnations as a whole, Toon Link notwithstanding. Certain Smash characters do seem to be representing a single entity in their franchises though, for example Mega Man representing the classic games.

I think you are a crazy person.

I though that was cleared up and wasn't the case? IIRC, the content was DLC in the first place. They could've included it but it wasn't taken out.

They already did last night. With Ridley, Chrous Kid, Impa and Dixie.

Why is it always those four lol

The real leak ended up having Duck Hunt, Doctor Mario and Bowser Jr, who nobody expected. Just listing off the most popular characters doesn't really lend any credence to your fake, why don't these guys have more creativity?

They figure if all the leaks basically have the same characters.
We'll believe them I guess.

NEWCOMER REVEAL SCHEDULE TALK:

So the 3DS version comes out in Japan on Saturday, Sept. 13. It's not unusual for games to have launch trailers or announcements thereabouts. I'm hoping... that Bowser Jr. will have his newcomer trailer shown next week or the week thereafter. Since Mario is Nintendo's most popular franchise this side of Pokémon, a reveal trailer for Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings would generate mad hype.

Also, I guess Duck Hunt could be saved as a hidden unlockable, but how awesome would it be if Duck Hunt was in the same trailer as Bowser Jr., much like how Duck Hunt was included on the same cart as SMB1?
I'm pretty sure that Shulk was our last character. The other characters are secret and won't get newcomer trailers. If they revealed the Koopalings or Duck Hunt before release, that would mean that only one unlockable newcomer would have a unique moveset and only two newcomers unlockable total. I justs don't see that happening.

I think you are a crazy person.

All I said is that is what I think. I'm not trying to say it is a fact, I'm not trying to tell other people this is what they should think. All I said is that I personally think that the fan reaction the the Ridley shadow is the reason that another giant boss character was teased with a shadow. People don't need to insult me for that.

The only people who would think that Shadow was a Ridley tease
They're a shadow of what is likely a stage boss with enough information given so we know who they are without totally throwing it in our face. The fact we talk about them by name rather than calling them Mysterious Shadows 1 and 2 go to prove this.

Like Lucina, they could show an unlockable character early.

It's worth noting that Brawl's final starter (Sheik) was officially revealed two weeks before the Japanese launch, just like Shulk. We might not get any more character announcements until the game is out.
