Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

I'll never understand why anyone wants to buy any of these. To me, it's a waste of money. I'd rather spend that $13 on actual game content than a non-poseable figurine which (so far) only can be used for the sole purpose of fighting a harder AI opponent.

It's a decorative collector's item. A lot of these characters wouldn't get figures otherwise.

It still hurts!

ShockingAlberto raised a good point re: Amiibos: Wait to see the quality of them when they're mass-produced. So far, it's likely we've only see hand-painted prototypes. If the mass-produced ones look just as good, then I'll be interested, but until then, I'm not rushing to preorder anything. (Plus, if Nintendo goes about this in a way that will actually make money for them, there should be enough at retail that they're not impossible to find.)

I'm still not sure which Amiibos I'm interested in. I rattled off a list earlier in the thread, but my lineup is always fluctuating. Lucina seems like a safe bet, since I'm more interested in her aesthetics than I am her gameplay. She'd be a good AI sidekick to train, in other words. And Pit, Dark Pit and Palutena also seem like safe bets, given my love of Kid Icarus Uprising.

The shocking thing here is that samus is number 2 lol. Peach with that lucky number 7 <3
Not really if you think about it. Most anyone rushing out to preorder Amiibo's right now are likely hardcore Nintendo fans so it makes sense that Link and Samus would be so high on the list. Lets wait until those things are available at Toys r us and other places and see how much each figurine sells. I get the feeling Mario and friends will jump up the list significantly.

My interview of GAF continues:

Does Shulk have a hood on his vest? I'm nearly positive he does. There's definitely a collar, but I paused the trailer at 1:19, when Shulk is turned sideways, and if you follow his back, it definitely looks like a hood is slung below the collar, long enough that it could cover his collar and his head. At first I thought I was seeing things, though, because in other scenes it's pressed up against him and I wasn't sure if I was mistaking a pattern for a hood.
Never noticed it.. But maybe there is a hood. :p

hoods now? As if boots weren't enough..

lol

Have we seen some Shulk-trailer fanart? I want to see what they could come up with Marth and Link being a team.

"Man, I heard there's a new sword user in town."
"No way dude"
"Let's fucking kill him"

I think it's just the wide collar, though I am not sure now because I always use a different style of armor for Shulk.

Edit: Yeah he might have. This is the official artwork of XC, and it sure shows a hood.

Yeah, Shulk definitely has a hood on his vest. I really like how they came up with a unique fashion sense for him and his people. :-)

Don't know what you're talking about, Ivysaur is the biggest loss in there

The fact that she's so unique in moveset and body shape definitely puts her above Lucas and Wolf, but I don't think I'd put her above Ice Climbers and Snake though, they're unique and represent unrepped franchises.

I was going to buy one until I saw the price. I wanted it mainly for the figure - I can't imagine using the amiibo function more than once or twice - but I'm not spending nearly fifteen bucks for a little plastic figure. I'd happily spend $5 or so for one, but I agree, for $13 I should be getting more game content than a harder AI.

Ice Climbers would be the biggest loss by far. Then Wolf, then Lucas, then Snake, and finally, the Pokemon.

What is wrong with some of you guys?

How is losing characters that already have representation for their series and are semi-clones worse than losing a character that brings an entire series with him and has one of the best/most original movesets Smash has ever seen?

I mean I love Wolf and Lucas too, but Snake gets shit on.

I'm not too worried. I imagine they'll be similar quality to Disney Infinity/Skylanders, both which have perfectly fine paint jobs in my opinion. Even if they're not quite as nice as these models, I suspect they'll be perfectly fine.

Do you guys think the major alts will get amiibos later down the line? Specifically talking about Female Villager, Male Wii Fit Trainer, Female Robin, Plumber Wario, the Koopalings, and Alph.

I enjoyed playing Wolf and Lucas more than Snake, Fox, Falco and Ness.

Don't know about alts, but I could see palette swap Amiibos coming out since it's easy money.

We have to remember that this isn't a Smash exclusive venture so they'll have to focus their efforts on other games as well.

Neiteio, your love of Kid Icarus (and apparently Wonderful 101 and RE:R too) does my heart good.

If alts Amiibos really becomes a thing, I hope they are not LEs only.. It would suck to not be able to get Pink Hood Mac because its sold out everywhere..

I feel like Daisy's too fundamentally different than Peach to work as an alt. The Toad counter, turnip plucking, and even the pink heart and rainbow effects don't really suit her. She's better off as a semi-clone, but that seems like way too much effort for a character like her. She'll probably stay an alternate color homage for Peach.

I'm not interested in any of the gameplay features of the Amiibos thus far - and to be honest, I still don't even understand how they will work. How will fighting alongside a fully leveled up Rosalina Amiibo partner differ in any way from fighting alongside a level 9 CPU in a team match? Will the differences in skill between a level 9 CPU and a level 50 Amiibo really be THAT perceptible to anyone other than the most hardcore Smash players? And shit, if there ARE play style differences between a level 9 CUP vs. a level 50 Amiibo, doesn't that just imply that developers are intentionally dumbing down in-game AI to give some sort of artificial benefit to the figures?

Regardless - I still want all of the Amiibos because I've been a Nintendo fan for two decades and they will make for some real badass collectables. I just hope Nintendo figures out something worthwhile to do with them.

I could see them changing the heart decals to flowers or something if she was an alt. But would they bother recording a new voice, because she would likely need it.

While the roster is pretty good (outside of the probable IC cut) the stage selection is the only disappointing part honestly. no new dk, starfox, or Yoshi stage while getting 4 new mario stages hurts

The least they could do if make it more like her Melee texture minus the skin tone change.

Shorter hair would be a bonus.

This is pretty generally agreed upon. Most of the roster is up-ported from Brawl, lots of walk-offs, and lots of series didn't get new stages at all. Not to mention this game's general disproportionate Mario representation.

Edit: Not for real "most." But plenty.

I do agree, Ivy was just one of my mains and my favorite Kanto starter line ):

I agree about the stage selection too.
I guess most of the effort is in the Wii U version, at least I hope so.
There is still some very nice stage for the 3DS, it's just the lack of new ones in certain IP.
